We Won't Go Quietly is the third installment of a captivating post-apocalyptic story of a family's survival.
From the back
Lauren Russell, her family, and the community of Trout Run Valley have been blessed with a workable blueprint for overcoming nearly insurmountable odds—odds that have surmounted against them and others like them, since the blackout, subsequent decline of society, and the world’s devolution.
The aftermath of the most recent onslaught; a ruthless attack by a menacing enemy, has left them reeling in its wake, leaving a once-sustainable food supply damaged beyond repair and two of their own senselessly murdered. Rebuilding will require time—time they no longer have—following the discovery of yet another tribulation in this unending apocalypse.
When various species of wildlife that the community has depended on for life-giving food begin to abruptly die off and several residents become afflicted with an unidentified illness, it soon becomes evident that another adversary, one that former DHS Agent Christian had forewarned of in earnest, has not yet written them off.
A decision is made in desperation. Several inhabitants must leave the safety and security of the valley that once provided them with so much plenty and venture out into the precarious unknown that lays beyond its borders, in search of medical assistance and to acquire provisions or otherwise, become victims of the atrocious actions enacted by constituents of the former federal government.
Meanwhile, Lauren’s grandmother, Faith Gallo, has been amassing her own form of defiance inside the FEMA camp she and hundreds of others have unwillingly been confined to. However, her actions have not gone unnoticed. Threats are made and an ultimatum is given, yet Faith stands her ground, refusing to submit. An unwavering response to her oppressors draws a line firmly into the sand and indicates a promise that a revolution beckons, even in event of her
Ok, likable characters , 90% to dumb by half to have survived anywhere near the Eastern seaboard for a whole year. Our Main heroine keeps losing situational awareness and should already be dead several times over.
Obviously our author is a prepper, but needs to work harder on being an author - for Gods sake erase “jeer” from your vocabulary you don’t even use it correctly in situations.
Now, all that being said character development is not bad, and he spins a good enough story that I want to know what happens, give it a try. It is actually getting better.
Lauren Russell and the small community of Trout Run Valley only want to live in peace and be left alone. They had found a balance to subsist by trading among themselves until most of their crops and livestock were destroyed by a rogue motorcycle gang sent by DHS. Now, the wild animals and fish they used to supplement their diet have been found dead. Several of their clan have come down with a devasting illness and need medical attention beyond what they have to offer. With winter coming they must seek food and medical supplies outside the boundaries of the valley.
Rudolph’s third novel in the What’s Left of My World Series, We Won’t Go Quietly: A Family’s Struggle to Survive in a World Devolved is the best of the series by far. It seems the author has finally found his stride, and the story being told is presented much better. There are three stories. There are the flashbacks that give Lauren’s origin story, current day with Lauren and those of Trout Run Valley, and the struggle of Faith Gallo, Lauren’s grandmother imprisoned at the FEMA camp. This book is also the first one to have a real cliffhanger ending.
When the convoy is ambushed by an overwhelming force outside the valley Lauren’s skills are put to the test once again. Lauren does well in controlled training sessions. But, put her in a real life or death struggle and she occasionally puts herself in more danger. Her situational awareness seems to be her weakest area.
It will be interesting to see how Lauren and her friends handle their newest foe.
I have loved this series up until now, you read about all the different kinds of training with different special forces people L has but halfway through this badass well trained killer does the stupidest thing possible, (The run up the stairs to get away from a killer kind of stupid, brand new car want start kind of stupid) and the again near the end goes full blown stupid again, ( if your in a prison waiting to be executed and some one come to save you, you don't question who they are , and you sure don't blurt it out loud for everyone else to hear and then act all coy with everybody else about getting rescued) you tell them the plan and then get the HEll out). Really disappointed with this one if the next is anything like this one that will be the end for me, This is the first time I have ever felt the need to write a review that's how disappointed I was with this book

A quote from the author resonated with me, so I thought I’d share; “This zombie apocalypse, or whatever you want to call it, had probably not changed people as much as brought out their true nature. How many people have been restrained from acting on their twisted desires simply due to the deterrent of the potential time in state prison or jail?” Think about what might happen should a catastrophe, such as the one portrayed in this book, takes place during our time here on earth. Are we prepared? I am proud to consider myself a devotee in the Constitution and a patriot. Rudolph must believe the same of himself as there is much in the Constitutional way of things professed throughout. I agree and am troubled by the thoughts such a crisis brings to mind. Do not depend on our government to save us. As recent as Katrina should give you pause. “We won’t go quietly.”
I've never had trouble suspending disbelief for a good story, but this is ridiculous. The previous books were full of misogynistic and more subtle "Christian persecution" comments, but the third book has gone way overboard. In this story the villain is none other than our own government, which apparently is filled with the most evil (never stated but clearly atheist) madmen who want to rid the country of Christians (and their guns). It was too unbelievable.
It didn't help that the main character is a 40 year old green beret/navy seal/marine trapped in the body of a teenage girl.
Having defended their settlement from marauding bikers the group thinks the worst is over. That is not the case. Their food and water supply is taken from them by they suspect what remains of the government. DHS has instituted Marshall Law and is free to imprison anyone they deem trouble makers. Now the survivors have to venture outside their safe zone in order to find supplies to survive. I really like the way the author brings characters together. He waits to reveal the ties between the characters that sets up nice surprises along the way.
The continued story of of survival after the SHTF. The members of the community are regrouping after surviving the battle with the motorcycle gang. Desperation sets in as their farm is destroyed in the attack and they must now find a new source of food and winter is approaching.
Rudolph has created a world that still has hope, even during the toughest challenges that this community faces, they still have hope.
The start of this adventure reminded me of that old television show Kung Fu. Training little grasshopper flashbacks. Loved it.
One thing I have learned from reading this series, people really do depend on the government to be their parents. I have also learned martial law s Ares the dodo out of me. It is scary.
I don't think I will be able to wait until Summer for the next book!
Besides that ⤴️, this was another great addition to an already compelling and complex story revolving around the bad ass that is Lauren Russell. Her demeanor may be offputting to some in the beginning but Rudolf does a good job of letting your guard down; her experiences and skills (that we know of thus far 🤔) are fascinating and "Team Lauren 🤩" you will become.
I have liked all three books, with this one being, in my opinion the best so far. Lauren is growing and therefore maturing into a formidable warrior in her own right. The plot, which had been a bit thin in book one, has thickened nicely. The secondary characters have fleshed out well and are becoming more interesting. The best part about the whole is that the slightly stilted and didactic themes have ceased. I am looking forward to finding the next book.
I think the series is best equalized when I have read the series (which I am not finished yet,) I find myself wanting to put my two cents earlier.. This is a important book to read. It's got tons of images floating through my brain as I read. It takes me through the forest and up mountains to see the world through the author's mind. Grab a copy and see the world as seen by a Pepper! )
I've been giving 4 and 5 stars to the other books in this series, but this one is just okay. Beginning was quite slow and I actually thought about not finishing the book. I hung in there and did. It picked up and grabbed my interest and ended leaving my having to find out what happens next. I hope the next is as awesome as the first 3 books.
Disappointed in this one. The first two books had good pacing, but this book seemed to drag quite a bit. Far too many flashbacks that seemed to go on forever. I honestly considered quitting but decided to push through. Even though it picked up at the end, I’m still not sure if I will continue with the series.
Just when you think the situation can't get any worse...
Life in Trout Run Valley was becoming settled, peaceful and productive even. Right up until the day it wasn't. Its SHTF time for real and Lauren and the gang are in a battle for their lives.
Absolutely love this series! C. A. Rudolph takes you on an apocalyptic roller coaster ride that gets your heart racing with the intensity he pens in each altercation. Can't wait for the next book in the series or the next 20!
Amazing characters. Will Grandma be reunited with family ? Will Fred survive his injuries? What about the food and water shortages? So many questions I can't wait to get the answer too
I was so disappointed when I got to the end of this book. I thought it was the last book of the series and found out there's more and the latest one isn't out yet. I am really enjoying this series. It's so realistic and there's a lot of real informative information.
The intensity of this series is ramping up and I love it. I was disappointed in one part that seemed to be completely glossed over but I won't provide any spoilers but the rest of the story with a great surprise ending. Can't wait to read the finale.
The activity just keeps ratcheting up in this series, and I’m on the edge of my seat, reading as fast as I can, wondering what the next thing will be. Love the series, keep them coming!
For someone as trained as she is she sure does some stupid stuff. How many times can you toss your gun out of reach or allow yourself to be hit from behind. Traumatic brain injury patient should be the title of this book.
Its an OK read if you can get by the immaturity of the characters... most of the characters are whiny and always so offended by one another its annoying. I will continue the series just because I want to figure out what happened/happens with Alan, Lauren's father.
I just finished reading book 3 of this series and am very excited to read the last 3. What an amazing story about survival when all we know of how the world is reliant on electricity, heat, plumbing, etc., is taken away. I recommend this series to all.
Book 3 is more intense that the previous2. C. A. Rudolph really knowns how to tell a great but different apocalyptic story. There is so much happens but I don’t want to give anytigaway. I think everyone should read these seriers. I truly eel theUScouod go this way.
Again I liked this book as a continuation of our world after the collapse of everything we hold dear. The characters are realistic as is their response to situation they are encountering.
