Supernatural bodies are piling up fast. But can Parker and Daniel save those they love, before they kill each other?
As one of the top data security specialists in the US, Parker Johnson has exposed hundreds of digital villains, and their crimes. The hacker is smart, savvy and good at keeping secrets. Parker is also one of the few humans aware of the existence of werewolves, and it’s a secret she will do everything to protect.
But for how long? Weres are dying by the dozen, and it seems Wildfire—a new drug sold on the internet—is somehow involved. Parker is called in to help the investigation under the protection of Daniel Locke, the icy Alpha Commander who, three years earlier, she had the misfortune of pissing off. Big time.
Daniel has spent his life defending those he loves, but he’s never faced an enemy that’s invisible, and everywhere. No matter how much he distrusts Parker, with the future of his race on the line, his duty to his people comes first. It’s just too bad that his steely self-control fails to smother the animal attraction that flares each time he meets the curvy, brunette investigator. The fiery woman is as much of an enigma as the puzzle they are unravelling.
It is a race against the clock to track down the killers behind the lethal drug before it rages well beyond their control.
Good writing, good plot and execution, the romance aspect, however, is significantly undercooked . The other let down was a character of Simon - as a beta he came across rather wimpy. Other than that a very decent read.
Thank you to NetGalley, M Greenhill, and 2 Little Monkeys for this free ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Forgive me, but I need to fangirl it out.
This was a brilliantly done paranormal thriller with just as much romance to boot. It contains only werewolf legend. No vampires or ghosts or other mystical beings and it was done with sex appeal, danger, protective instincts, and a massive dose of what can pass as reality.
Daniel, our megahot Alpha is a dashing gentleman. He is intelligent and caring and he uses both of these traits to keep the greater American packs as safe as possible while they fight the Hitler of werewolves in wanting to take out any half-human wolves. He's a bit of a possessive lover, and entirely too bossy. But somehow you still love him to pieces.
Parker is feisty, strong, resilient, and is in no way submissive. The perfect match for Daniel. And also his greatest challenge. But the chemistry here is strong, and I appreciated that Parker, though she ended up and needed rescuing because she's only human, was still able to hold her own and brought the tech intelligence to the group to take down the evil that designed the pestilence for the normally immortal werewolves.
This had the perfect balance of fast pace, believable romance, and a greater plot driver than just the two romantic leads. I am thoroughly looking forward to the next book in the series and have accepted the release date will be eagerly awaited with barely-contained impatience.
With time is running out, nemeses Parker and Daniel have to work together to save werewolves from extinction in this new techno-thriller of M Greenhill. This book is filled with trills and suspense as the two are trying to track down the manufacturer of a powerful drug, designed to kill the people they love. Add plenty of sparks, bantering, and heart pounding action, and this debut novel of M. Greenhill turns into a must read. Not a dull moment until you’ve turned the last page. I’m already looking forward to the next installment.
Enter the world of Werewolves... A hidden secret living among humans since the beginning of time. That is until Parker Johnson is thrust into their world, becoming the Brandenburg Pack's 'human pet'. Accepted by most of the packs living in the U.S., Parker's only resister is the Alpha Commander; Alpha Daniel Locke. But when a genocidal virus starts spreading like wildfire; first targeting werewolves and then humans alike, these two opposites are suddenly forced to set aside their past and work together to eliminate the threat at its core root. But will they be too late?
In this heart pounding page-turner, follow Parker and Daniel through their struggles as they work together to end a werewolf holocaust. This paranormal thriller will have you on the edge of your seat, unable to put down this nerve wracking story. The plot and character relationship growth will have you rooting for the good guys, cursing the bad, and shipping two unsuspecting individuals.
Having had the pleasure of reading the version posted on Wattpad, I was hooked from the beginning. I found putting it down to work on house chores very difficult. I love the conflict between Parker and Daniel as the story progresses and they learn to put their differences aside for the better good of finding a solution to the epidemic threatening the existence of Daniel's race. Then there is Jessica, Daniel's sister, and her eccentric personality and Simon, Daniel's best friend and Beta, and his 'surfer dude' persona that add a comic relief to the tension filled chapters that make up this original and suspenseful novel.
I had the honor of receiving a free ARC copy of Masked with no requirement to review or endorse. It is just too good a book to go without reviewing.
Don't hesitate to pick up your copy of Masked. You won't be disappointed.
Werewolves don’t get sick, may it be a common cold or the most aggressive, stage 4 cancer. And if a human with a chronic condition is turned, you can bet the transformation will resolve his health issue at once. Werewolves also don’t get addicted, their bodies naturally get rid of any inebriating—or harmful—substance. When a mysterious illness seems to target them, without any consequence on the human population, the Werewolf Alliance is completely at loss. How could they face an enemy they cannot see? An enemy they cannot hunt and tear to pieces? Their only option is to ask humans for help, something the Alpha Commander, Daniel Locke, is against to because humans are untrustworthy. Because there is history between him and the Brandebourg’s human protégée, security expert Parker Johnson, although the only contact Daniel ever had with her was through phone calls. Parker is eager to help out her adoptive kin, but she is less than happy to work side by side with the overbearing Alpha Commander. But deads are piling up and there is no other choice: a truce is agreed and both sides will have to compromise in order to find and destroy the enemy. Their growing attraction? It’s just but a bothersome distraction that none of them wants to give in (Nota Bene: Daniel’s wolf disagrees, even if Parker could NOT be their long-awaited mate). As the inquiry slowly lead our heroes to the villains and allow them to unfold their plan to rid the world of werewolves, they realise that the enemy’s objective is much more twisted than what they thought.
“Masked” is my first approach to both thriller and Werewolf genres, nevertheless, I was able to appreciate the story. Is it original? I cannot say, but I did find it an original story per se, in which our modern technology mingles with Werewolf lore. M Greenhill took great care in describing her world and the growing struggles those mythical creatures have with it—a good example is when one of the characters says they cannot burn down their town registries anymore since all data is stocked in computers. I really appreciated how she used this weakness in an otherwise almighty, powerful Alpha like Daniel, and his fellow Weries, justifying their slower rate to adapt to the peculiar need of their wolf counterpart—after all they are animals of the wilderness, they could not be ‘caged’ in a white collar job. And yet, the author shows us how, with a little compromising, this limit could be overcome. Another interesting thing is the frustration of Alice, Daniel’s packs’ physician, who looks for something more challenging and stimulating than checking that bones heal properly—one could even think her prayers have been very well heard up above. Indeed, Alice’s current project, started more for boredom and to stay updated with the latest scientific discoveries, will be essential in understanding the threat, how it works and, most of all, which it’s aim is. And then there is Parker, the human who has found out how to mask her smell so that her lupine friends wouldn’t know her emotions before her. What I had always loved about her, is how she refuses to play the damsel in distress: she has a job to be done and she doesn’t economise her resources. Yes, she is a workaholic, sleeping and eating little; but at the same time, she knows when she has to ask for help. This, in my opinion, is the proof of her own strength, being not only able to delegate tasks to others according to their abilities and the present need but also of forced cold thinking in the worst situation—no, I’m not going to spoil you. As for the plot itself, it’s a gripping thriller well-developed and with a good pace, with an alternation of chilling moments when you could only cross your finger and held your breath and some others quieter passages. It’s mostly through those that we see the non-Romance blooms between Parker and Daniel, by showing not only how their relationship shifts from archenemies to willing allies, but also their personal stories and opinions about the world they move into. The final twist, which I’m letting you find out by yourselves, is the cherry on top of this subplot. This is an exceptional book that I would recommend to anyone who is hesitant about the Werewolf genre: the originality and the care used by the author to build her world makes this a real page-turner that will make you forget about everything else until reaching the very last page.
Masked for me is the first one I have read by M. Greenhill. I'm very impressed. This story is about Parker, a genius hacker with a drive to protect the werewolves from new attacks. three years ago she had to deal with an Alpha, Daniel, and it was seriously not a good experience. Ever since they have butted heads.
We all know that there is a fine line between love and hate. Daniel doesn't trust Parker because she's human. Little does he know how involved she is in the community. The hostility is still there but these two are are going to be put to the test when they are forced to work together.
The story was good, the side characters were awesome, and the two main characters were great. It was a seriously enjoyable and I can't wait for more.
The cover immediately grabs your attention, and this book definitely isn’t your run of the mill werewolf story. The author perfectly blends the modern day world with pack life and immerses you in the problems growing technology brings. There is plenty of action without tons of the shifting, gore and death common with this genre. The relationship between the main characters isn’t your typical “alpha male and damsel in distress” plot either -I really appreciated the give and take between the two. There are so many plot twists and turns I was surprisingly caught off guard at the end. I can honestly say I didn’t see that coming, and I’m usually good at picking up the subtle hints authors drop and figuring out the end before I get there. A solid, good read that left me anxious for the continuation of the series!
(I received this copy from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review)
I had the pleasure of receiving an ARC for an honest review. First, I freaking loved this story. Masked blended mystery techno-thriller with werewolf tropes for something different and highly entertaining. Aside from the thriller elements that frankly had me plowing through the last third of the book to see what happened (I went to bed at 1 AM. I regret nothing), the slow burn romance between Parker and Daniel were both frustrating and delightful. The romance as a whole, I would say is a sub-element of the main story line, which does some interesting things with werewolf mythology and how the species copes with modern technology. What I did not expect from this story was the emotional wreckage at points in this novel. Thank you, Greenhill for stomping on my heart! On a final note, villains are usually my favorite part of a story and Masked absolutely delivers with regular rogue's gallery of chilling figures. I cannot wait to see where this series goes for the baddies alone.
**5 stars** ARC kindly received in exchange for an honest review. I freaking loved this book. M Greenhill blends werewolfs with mystery techo-thriller to create something unique and highly enjoyable. What I really loved about this book it's that the romance was more of a sub-element for the main story line and how Greenhill manages to play with my emotions throughout the story (I can't get over Bobbie). Can't wait to read the second one!!! This is a book I would highly recommend.
What a combustible couple! Sparks fly, both good and bad, for Parker and Daniel. It's a hate-to-love relationship between these two.
Parker is an extremely talented computer tech gal who is in the know about werewolves. Daniel is an alpha werewolf who initially dislikes Parker and lets her know that, which leads to acrimony between them for years.
If you like romantic suspense and werewolves, this book will hit all the rights points for you!
Amazing! My first werewolf story. I love how this author explained details. She made me cry and laugh. I fell in in love with Parker and Daniel ! I couldn't put the book down it was just that good! It was a book once you start you cant just put down!!!!!
Once again, I let a book sit too long before reviewing. However, my reasons on waiting on this were more valid. I simply didn't know how to feel about the book.
It was a recommendation by a friend, who simply adored it. I did enjoy the book, once I got into the meat of the book I thought it had a good pace and hit several good strides. However, it took my a while to get there because I could not get hooked, but I'll get to my reasons why in a minute.
What I did love about the book was that the main protagonist, who wasn't paranormal, was there to save the day because she's in STEM. A hacker/ computer-junkie if we are to be precise. This to me was such a wonderful break into real of urban fantasy. Many urban fantasy's seem to have the old school werewolves or other preternatural creatures with extremely long life that don't seem to always break into the modern world. M. Greenhill gets in and underlines that fact in red. We need books with more kickbutt girls who have a hand in STEM, and Parker joins that team, and she comes with an abundance of spunk.
Alright, so what was most off-putting to me, was the hate-to-love element. Which breaks my heart to say, because I am always down for a good hate-to-love relationship. And I can definitely say that the romantic tension in the middle was well done, Parker and Daniel can steam up a room. In the beginning, the 'grudge' they hold against one another just felt too forced. It was as if the characters themselves weren't fully sure of why they hated one another, which didn't help because the "magical" reason they hated each other was played up and to me fell flat.
Their relationship was rescued by the fact that the characters within the novel are funny, human, and in many wonderful ways unique in this genre. I especially loved the women, they made me laugh and had such a bond going that it was a joy to read. Also, the reality of the awkwardness of forced interactions. Finally, the magic was slightly unique and I liked learning that there were 'true-born' werewolves, and created werewolves, as this added to the depth of the novel.
These characters were definitely made the book shine, a good thing as the plot near the end seemed to fall flat. Partially because it felt rushed, partially because I didn't feel like there was enough resolution. The romantic tension, and moments when the readers get to know the characters in the middle have everything you're looking for, but it almost felt too long with what was packed in at the end. Additionally sometimes information felt like it was coming out of left field.
In the end I was left slightly chagrined. I enjoyed the book even if at times I was frustrated with it. All in all I was confused on my feelings. I felt like I needed time to give in a decent review. For M's first published novel I think it was well done. It doesn't help that I had the tendency to measure this book against my favorite urban fantasy werewolf series, and I think if I had refrained from that I may have enjoyed it more. I look forward to seeing her next novel.
Thank you to NetGalley, M. Greenhill, and 2 Little Monkeys Limited for a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
Unfortunately, the authors writing style did not grab and hold my attention although the plot of the book was quite original and well thought out. The story of werewolves being killed was interesting and entertaining. A few times in the book I was wondering what exactly was going on and it felt as if I missed something.
A supernatural thriller with a little romance thrown in. This is my first book by M. Greenhill and won’t be my last. Looking forward to contuning the series.
I love Fantasy reads, especially if there's a romance in the story. Sadly the best sellers lists are dominated by stories where the romance is all the story, and though clearly others love them I want a bit more substance. Happily Masked delivers all that :-) and I look forward to reading more.
There were a few weak spots though, Daniel is hundreds of years old, Alpha Commander, and yet in this age of technology he's a total Luddite. I would have though that with technology now posing such a risk to them he'd have a specialist team. Its not as if he can hire out either, he's determined to avoid any Human involvement. Fortunately his alphas are more open minded, and through circumstance Parker has become a friend to one of the packs, after her cousin was turned. Now they need her but she and Daniel have friction between them from an earlier case.
What I struggled with were things like early on in the novel when there are four murders, the wolves just whisk away the bodies, and remove the SD cards from every ones phones? I just kept thinking "How?" you just can't do that without creating massive attention, and that's the last thing they needed. It would have been easier to believe had they their own tech specialists that can hack into networks and delete data that way, change paperwork so that nothing is missing but the true details don't get out, bodies appear to have died from another cause. Its a more believable way round things and one I've seen in other supernatural reads.
That's a small criticism though and on the whole I really enjoyed this book. First in a series has a hard job, delivering a new and exciting story while introducing characters for future books. I liked the way this part of the story wrapped up while still leaving the opening for future books connected to what happened here.
I liked too that the author isn't afraid to kill off key characters. That's always sad when it happens, but does add to the believability factor when not just weak secondary people die. Keeps the reader on their toes too, never knowing what's coming. In some books whatever the dangers you know all the main guys are safe, and it makes me think things like in real life it doesn't happen that way, that all the good/lead characters survive, and lessens credibility.
There were some great characters here, from Parker and her cousin Bobby, Daniel and his betas, the two tech-geeks-in-training, to Daniel's sister and characters from other packs. the bad guys were just that - truly awful, and with psychotics like that you can't predict what their next move would be. I like that :-) like to be surprised. The story too has lots of potential to follow through in later books.
Stars: four, maybe four and a half, tidy up the few weak spots and this is shaping up to be a five star series.

Aaaah, you gotta love it when a book leaves you in a dilemma as to its rating -I know, I'm a masochist, sue me!
Daniel Locke, the Alpha Commander of his shifter pack, has always been suspicious of Parker Johnson, the human hacker working closely with his people. Someone with no scent on them at all, with emotions not easily read through smell, and, above all, a human, couldn't be trusted. But when a deadly virus threatening to destroy so many lives - and the Alliance with the humans, in turn - breaks out, the pack needs Parker's mad skills. And, dislike or not, those two better find it in themselves to stop butting heads and soon, if they want to survive this ordeal.
Let me begin with what I enjoyed in this book. First things first: Parker freaking Johnson! I loved that rebellious, stubborn woman! She was clever, and kind, and funny, and oh so gloriously witty. I kinda suspected what was going on with her scent, and I was not disappointed when she ran out of her tea - boom! Instant acceleration of the pace AND the emotions going all over the place. It was hilarious and hot to see what was going on after that in Daniel's head. The next thing I also enjoyed, was the fact that the story was pretty hot - what with all the tension and stuff.
Now, the things that didn't really do it for me. I guess, when all is said and done, I remain a firm believer of things reaching a certain climax if they're headed that way. I understand that there was this danger in the story, and all that, but, when you give the readers so much sexual tension between the two leads, you can't just leave them hanging without at least ONE sex scene. I know it's not warranted to make sure the romance takes place, but, this is not always the case. Yes, some fictional couples drive their point home about their love being true without physical intimacy - Daniel and Parker, though, with all their bad history and the war between them, needed it. Badly. Their romance seemed so forced this way - believe it or not, getting physical does help two people come clean with their inner turmoil, as it tends to open their eyes and they're the most vulnerable during such moments.
And then, there's the subscription thing. Now THAT I didn't appreciate. At the end of the book, the reader is given a choice: they can subscribe to a certain page, in order to get a bonus chapter. Well, yours truly did that, hoping desperately it would be the much-wanted love scene that would make all our emotional booboos go away. But alas, it was just an empty email. Not. Cool!
All in all, it was a nice read, but I'm not sure if I'll keep on reading this series. If the rest of the couples are like Daniel and Parker in terms of intimacy, I'm sorry to say, this is not for me.

I loved reading Masked when I read it first on wattpad and LOVED it even more when I read this published verion which is GREAT and brilliantly written.
This paranormal thriller truly has it all; an intriguing plot, very interesting characters and a story well weaved that keeps the reader hooked.
The book shows how werewolf packs, who existed since the beginning of time, are keeping up with the modern world and all its technology. I liked that the story doesn't only focus on the romance between the two leads but shows how their relationship is developed admist all that is going on.
Parker who was thrust into the werewolf world without any warning, becomes an important key player in keeping their real identities a secret from the outside world. She comes face to face with Alpha Daniel, who doesn't fully trust her, and have to unite to fight the terrorist who is trying to rip the werewolf world apart.
Parker is a strong feisty female, and like Daniel, would stop at nothing to protect the ones she loves. I loved how their characters developed throughout the story.
The book also had some unexpected tear-jerking moment that you wouldn't expect amongst the thrill, mystery, the slow burn romance and the comedic fun filled moment.
Masked is a great beginning for an amazing series and I am looking forward to read the published versions of Buried and Evolution.

IT guru Parker Johnson and alpha Daniel Locke first partnership it was voluntary, it ended with hurt feelings; This time it’s necessary, an order and they are toxic within 10feet of each other. Somewhere along the line… The wolf alliance has no idea exactly how many wolves are missing, why they’re dying or what’s going because werewolves don’t get sick! But the Alliance is of the mind Parke can help them find answers. And Daniel should provide Parker’s security.
It takes some searching but Parker and Daniel learn who’s behind the insidious plan to kill wolves though they snarl and nip at each other every step of the way. But their prey learns his status and comes up with a plan to stop the wolves in their tracks. This reader enjoyed this intriguing offering from a new to me author, Rating: 4.25stars
I received a copy of Masked by M Greenhill from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I REALLY enjoyed this novel! "Masked" by M Greenhill was a fun read from the summary to the final page. I was intrigued by the summary and hooked in the first chapter.
I liked the chemistry between the main characters, data security specialist Parker Johnson and werewolf Alpha Daniel Locke. The tension between them - even before they graced the same pages - was tangible and resolution of that tension was believable.
I also very much appreciated the twists in the plot. This story was not boring and simply "another werewolf story *yawn*." It was fresh, there were surprises, and everything was well paced. Just a good read from start to finish!
Love, love, love this story from beginning to end. I've read it twice nown before it was published and then after. No other like it. I personally would like a continuation of it that still focuses on Daniel and Parker. That would be epic. It's very different from all the Werewolf stories that are out there, and theres alot. It just fills all the marks you want in a good book from the supernatural aspects, to the action, and more as well as the romantic aspect. A good read, that's definitely not worth missing out on.
This was such a good read incredibly beautiful and so sweet.
So there are so many things I feel regarding this book but when it comes down to it all I can say M is this book was so thoughtful a real great read that kept me intrigued by the story while moved by slow budding romance. I love how you manifest on page what goes into relationships and true essence of love built from commitment and mutual respect. I look forward to reading more stories from you !
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this novel by M. Greenhill. I have read many shifter books This world of shifters felt slightly different but in a good way. Both hero and heroine were written as strong personalities and they clashed often as strong take charge personalities have a tendency to do. I am looking forward to reading more books by this author and hope that they are as well written as this book.
Awesome fast paced story with twists and turns, you just can't stop reading.
Finally werewolf book where: - alpha is true alpha, - female lead it true lead and strong woman, - wolfs are pack and not dictatorship, - you love to hate villains because they are true evil, - we have great main plot along love story, - all characters are great, - you will smile, cry, be awed, be disgusted...
I'm in love with Parker, Daniel, Simon, alpha Morgan, Alice, Jessica, Clara...
This is the first book I've read by this author but it won't be the last. Parker and Daniel's story grabs you from the very beginning. Intense and emotional, you connect right away with their lives. There are some great characters we get introduced to along the way to an explosive and sweet ending. You will enjoy the ride.
If this is your 1st novel, WOW! You will only get better! Then I started to realize to much was familar, (I'm a slow connector), What is weird is I'm reading your book at same time the World is suffering through this Cronavirus-19! In my book thats freaky. Great Humor, Danger, and lots twist and turns. I love Shifter stories. Want read next book in series.
