The Kitchen Witch is a fun cozy mystery series.
Here are the first 3 books:
1. Miss Spelled
2. Dizzy Spells
3. Sit for a Spell

Miss Spelled (Book ONE)
Amelia Spelled has had a bad week. Her boyfriend dumps her when she inadvertently gives him food poisoning; her workplace, a telecommunications center, fires all their staff as they are outsourcing offshore, and she is evicted due to smoke damage resulting from her failed attempts at baking. Amelia thinks her luck has changed when she inherits her estranged aunt’s store, two mysterious cats, and beautiful Victorian house.
Yet has Amelia jumped out of the frying pan into the fire? To Amelia's dismay, the store is a cake store, and she discovers that her aunt was a witch. To add to the mix, the house has secrets of its own.
When a man is murdered in the cake store, will Amelia be able to cook up a way to solve the crime? Will her spells prove as bad as her baking?

Dizzy Spells (Book TWO )
Amelia’s spells have improved, but her baking has not. She needs to make enough dough to save her crumbling cake store business. Yet that is soon the least of her worries, when a body is found on her porch and her new friend, Dianne, becomes the main suspect.
As Amelia tries to clear Dianne’s name, she finds that some people in her life are not what they seem. Craig finally whisks Amelia away on a date, but Amelia’s house has something to say about the matter, much to her distress.
The police say that solving the murder will be a piece of cake, but are they keeping her on a knead-to-know basis?
Will Amelia discover why Alder Vervain has been watching her?
Will she rise to the occasion and solve the murder, or will she become the next victim?

Sit for a Spell (Book THREE)
Amelia Spelled is playing Clue at Camino’s house when one of the guests drops dead in the dining room. There was no sign of weapons, so was it Amelia’s food? Or something just as unpleasant but more sinister?
The police arrest Camino, so Amelia and her friends are faced with the task of sifting through the suspects.
Will Amelia’s attempts to solve the murder be half-baked?
What will Amelia do when she finally discovers Alder’s dark secret?

The MC looses job, home and relationship, and inherits House, Bakeshop, and a large group of friends within the first couple of chapters in the first book. It seems fated (and probably is) as her new friends ease her into the fact that she has a witchcrafting heritage as well...
Our MC has an outgoing personality, a willingness to go 'out on a limb' for others. She also seems fated to be present when people are killed, leading to additional problems besides exploring her newly found powers.

100% engaging, I completed the first three in three days, and will enthusiastically be reading on...

I found the first 3 books in this series, which I got as a set, to be ok. They weren't bad. I didn't dislike the characters--I actually found most of them to be quite engaging. I liked the premise. I just didn't care for the mystery aspect of the books. I found Amelia to be a pretty inept mystery-solver, who mostly wandered about aimlessly and stumbled on the solution despite herself, all of which I thought was just annoying.

I also got tired of her complete ineptitude as a kitchen witch who, by the end of the third book, still couldn't cook, although she was less likely to burn the house down. I also thought that her "friends", who knew she was both a powerful witch and completely untrained, weren't what I woul call friends. They really didn't do anything constructive or helpful to help her get the training she needed to control her powers. (Oh--you're an Aries so as a fire sign, that explains why you burn things. Here--learn to decorate cakes instead; there's no fire involved in that.) And they dole out information about her heritage and her abilities like she's a child who can't be trusted not to run out and blow her allowance on candy if too much is given to her at one time.

On the plus side, they were quite fast reads. It could well be that I'm just too impatient and if I read more of the books, I'd enjoy them more as she develops her skills both as a witch and as a sleuth. But I just didn't like them enough to continue past these 3 and I hope that you enjoy them more than I did.

These books were so much fun!

1 Fun!
I loved Amelia! New to witchcraft, so you can imagine … ! I loved this witchy mystery. There’s humour, there’s wackiness, there’s fun and … there’s murder. This one had been on my TBR list for too long; I’m glad I started this series.

2 Enjoyable and surprising.
No, a baker she is not! Amelia tries and tries, but fails every time… There’s so much humour in this book, and there’s lots of quirkiness! It was entertaining, and the mystery kept me guessing. Twists and turns made this an enjoyable, surprising read.

3 Another entertaining installment in this fun witchy series!
I laughed, I gasped, I admired this wonderful book! I believe that this series gets better with every installment! Gotta love Amelia! I do recommend this book wholeheartedly!

Amelia seems to fall into being a witch with reservations but who wouldn't when you inherit a house that has a mind of it's own and a bakery when you can't bake but it's a good thing she can dial 9-1-1
A great romp.
I appreciated the author giving the heads up about the word differences as these books were set in Australia.
Very enjoyable if you love cozy mystery which I do.

I enjoyed these books but thought that the first book was, by far, the best.
Lots of twists and turns and surprise at the end.
You've gotta love the house, there could be a book written on it's adventures from it's perspective.

Interesting characters

The first book had to do a lot of explaining, but the following books were able to cut down those details to just a few sentences. The upside is that books two and three moved along in a pretty good clip which made the much more enjoyable. Each book gives a HFN ending and there is still an underlying mystery weaving through each book.
