Whether you’re a novice or experienced jewelry designer, incorporating all the elements of design properly into your pieces can be overwhelming. In The Essential Guide to Epic Jewelry Design, artist and teacher Tish Pollack shares the tips and tools of the jewelry-design trade gleaned from over twenty years of experience in the field. Her detailed account of the history of jewelry to its contemporary significance will give readers a newfound appreciation for just how important jewelry was … and still is. An explanation of the most commonly used symbols sheds light on why certain ancient amulets continue to hold strong meanings for many cultures. Honing in on the key elements of design—color, texture, materials, size, and shape—Tish helps distill the most confounding aspects in a straightforward, easy-to-understand way. Her in-depth explanation of the color wheel guides designers on how to apply fifteen different color harmonies, and she offers descriptions of where to find the best color inspirations through exquisite photographic examples of her work. She also shares her favorite places to source gemstone, crystal, and glass beads and beading supplies and demonstrates how she incorporates the most unlikely objects into her designs. The book culminates with the step-by-step approach she employs in creating some of her signature pieces while applying the principles taught in this book. Then patterns, pictures, and instructions are provided for three of her most popular freehand bead-weaving projects, giving readers an opportunity to implement the invaluable techniques, tools, and design approaches she illustrates throughout the book. With over 100 photographs of her pieces, readers will walk away inspired, renewed, and ready to design.
Very well organized. You can tell that the author has a great understanding of her topic. Many of the styles weren’t my styles, but I learned something from all of them.
Great guide. I'm new to jewelry making and have read several books. This is the first book I've read that teaches about the importance of color and using color wheel. There's a ton of information in the book that is very helpful.
Great reference for so many key jewelry making fundamentals
I’ll keep this handy (downloaded!) for quick reference. Looking forward to trying the last project with superduos since I haven’t used them before despite extensive beading!
