Captain Charlie "Bulldog" Green has just returned home from a mission that in his opinion went terribly wrong. He needs answers to who set his team up before another mission goes wrong. As a member of the elite Delta Forces, failure is not an option. On his way home he comes to the aid of Catherine Cunningham, who is the only woman he has ever met that didn’t cringe at his scars. Charlie is not only scarred on the outside thanks to an IED but on the inside too. Past experiences with the fairer sex have taught him to be wary of women but Catherine wages an all-out war to win him over. Charlie doesn't need a distraction right now and tries to ignore the feelings Catherine invokes in him. Can he win the battle and keep his distance? Catherine was having the worst luck when the man she had been lusting after for the past few months comes to her aid. She sees straight through his gruff exterior and scars and longs to know the man underneath but Charlie doesn’t make it easy for her. She’s lusted after him since the first time she saw him walk into the PX. He always wore a low baseball cap shielding the world from the scars that marred his face. She doesn't see the scars though. She only sees a man looking to be loved and accepted. As they get closer a dangerous past she thought she left behind catches up with her and threatens not only herself but the man she loves and all he holds dear. Hiding Catherine is the first book in the Delta Force Guardians Series.
I didn't think I would like this book as much as I did, but I really enjoyed both the characters and romance. Excited to read the next one in the series. Very hopeful that this is going to be a series I like a lot
I really love a good Delta book, and Hiding Catherine was good..Charlie and Catherine are made for each other, both have suffered in their lives and this has made them weary of attachment, but they soon get to know each other, this is my first Jennifer Becker book and it definitely won't be my last.
The story line was typical. Nice to see the characters from susan stoker's Delta team. However, the typos, grammatical errors and misused words totally distracted from the story... things like "he drug her across the bed" or "that's our queue to leave" instead of "cue". There were so many others it was bordering on pathetic. At least one every other page. No one's perfect, and things get missed, but this was terrible.
Another new author for my list seeing Ghost, Rayne, Fletcher, Emily and all the others always make it exciting. Amazing book please read and hope for more books on Bulldog's team.
I really really enjoyed this book. The only problem is even though these can be read as stand alone books they really work better when you read them in order and I read this one out of order. Still a great read though.
Loved the story!! Integrating characters from another author can’t be easy and she did an excellent job of it. I also adored how his scars only made him more handsome to Catherine. This is a great read!
I wanted to like this book. But, I just couldn't get into it. The writing is choppy and there is an abundance of sentence fragments and syntax errors. I think the idea behind the story was good and perhaps with a solid editor this could have been a good read, but I just couldn't keep reading beyond the 15% mark.
Hiding Catherine is by Jennifer Becker. This is a Delta Force Adventure. It is a cute book that is very easy to read and can be easily read in one afternoon. You don’t want to put it down. There is plenty of action and suspense to keep you enthralled. Catherine had transferred from the Fort Hood PX to Fort Sam PX to get away from her ex-boyfriend Martin. She hopes he never finds her there; but keeps her eye out for him. She is working double shifts as much as possible to save up a fund to use if she has to leave again. While she is working, she notices a soldier who comes in, always wearing a hat that hides his face. She notices that he has scars on his face much like those her brother has which were from an IED. Despite the scars, which she overlooks as part of his bravery and service, she finds him quite handsome. However, he doesn’t give her the time of day. Charlie Green, aka Bulldog, is part of the Delta Force. He can’t tell anyone what he is doing or where he is going. Since most girls turn their backs when they see his scars, he doesn’t have a girlfriend or anyone other than his team to do anything with when he isn’t working. He sees a lady on the side of the road with a car broken down and she is standing in the rain. He stops to help her, hoping he won’t scare her. Caroline assures him that she isn’t afraid and would like a ride to her house or back to the base. He admires her for her bravery. She is thrilled that it is Charlie who stopped to help her. Will these two individuals who have been hurt by other people’s comments be able to find some comfort in each other? It is pity or really love?
I wish I could give a higher rating but with the spelling and editing errors it just overwhelmed the story.
Catherine finally meets Charlie when he stops on his way home after an op which went FUBAR. What he doesn't know is that she is connected to Fletch and Emily as she worked at the same PX at Ft. Hood. But she treats Charlie like he's a normal man even though he was hurt after a IED explodes in front of his face. Will they both be able to get beyond their pasts so that they can build a future together?
Charlie feels like he'll never find a woman because of his face but little does he know that she's always been there he just couldn't see past his scars. But when his Panama op goes sideways his team finds out there was a traitor who was one of their own they need to capture the HVT that escapes. But when a person from Catherine's past kidnaps her and Rayne it will take his and Ghosts team to rescue them. One person that I did find I loved was Oreo and his never ending stash of cookies.
Again I wish that editing would have been done because this story could've been worth more stars than three.
I enjoyed the tie in with Susan Stoker's series, the story itself was pretty good but, as a former English teacher, it was painful for me to read. The dynamics between Charlie and Caroline were great. The storyline was good but the pacing seemed off at places...dragging in one or two spots but then rushed at others. If the author is using a speech to text feature to write quickly, please get an editor. If Ms. Becker has an editor, they need fired and replaced with someone who knows the proper usage of "your and ypu're." Most of the grammatical errors involved the wrong usage of homonyms, omitted words or words/phrases that were duplicated; as if the author debated on which sounds d better in the passage but forgot to erase the one that didn't work as well.
Catherine and Charlie are a great couple. Catherine works at the PX and has been drawn towards Charlie when he comes in. He may shield his scars with the hat he wares but she sees beyond those scars and is attracted to the man within.
Charlie has resigned himself to never finding his other half because women only see the outside scars. They are repulsed by them.
During a late night storm that changes and Catherine and Charlie find themselves starting down a new path together
Jennifer Becker is a new author to me and I look forward to reading more more stories by her. This was a great addition to Susan Stoker s Kindle World.
This book took what could have been a decent romantic thriller and made it boring in parts. Then there was the complete butchering of the English language that made it difficult to read. It was more than just the occasional typo here. The grammar and punctuation errors were on every page along with sentences where she must have stopped and restarted changing tenses mid sentence along with duplicating words. If Ms. Becker wants to continue to write, she needs to hire a good proofreader who can fix all these problems and make it readable. As is, she loses a star just due to the difficulty in reading.
It's a bit complicated with all the players. I realize it's a crossover with Susan Stoker's series but there are so many women who've been kidnapped by this group of wackos I need a score card. The heart of the story is Catherine and Charlie (Bulldog). Both are loners and Charlie's scars make him defensive. Catherine's connection to several of the other Delta team's spouses is convoluted and her guilt misplaced since she was a victim as well. Honestly it was a bit exhausting fortunately the development of the MCs relationship is well written. I'll read the next book as I like Bulldog's teammates and want to read their HEAs.
I enjoy Beauty and the Beast theme romances and if done well never gets old.
Jennifer Becker is a new author for me and based on the high star rating this book got I was expecting so much more from it.
This book needed a good editor badly, trying to keep correcting all the grammatical errors in my head was becoming way to much effort for a story that was very much meh 😏.
The story started of great and then began to drag. I wanted Catherine to shine but she had too many issues and many of them was pointless.
Overall an okay read, not something I would rave about and recommend.
The story was excellent (I realized I've already read some of the series and thoroughly enjoyed them) and I would have given it 5 stars had it not been for the unacceptable number of errors. My Fire doesn't keep count like my Paperwhite does, but some pages had multiple errors. Most were misuse of apostrophes and using the wrong word from a pair of homonyms, but there were others. Ms. Becker writes a great story, but needs a copy editor in the worst way. Will I read more of her books? Yes. Will I continue to be bothered by the errors? Absolutely. I'm a Grammar Nazi!
This was superbly written. From page one I didn't want to put it down. So much love and caring from both main characters. Charlie with a scarred face and Catherine who fell for him at first sight. So many looked at his face and feared him while she looked inside his heart and saw a warm, compassionate, handsome man. I loved the characters, very realistic and memorable. There is sexual content. Also contains a serial killer. This will keep you on the edge of your seats.
Two lonely people find each other. Catherine and Charlie have scars. Charlie's scars are visible but Catherine sees beyond the scars to the real person. Both are mature adults in their thirties but find each other. Glad Charlie and Catherine got their HEA. This novel has action, mystery and romance.
Catherine works at the PX, she's left her ex and went into hiding. Charlie sort of antisocial because of his appearance. He has bad scars on his face from an IED explosion. But all Catherine sees is the goodness inside of him. There are killings going on and he's worried for catherine. He gets the scare of his life, will he be able to cope.
I love this series. As in the other books, this one has the strong alphas, strong women, and a great story with suspense, action, and romance. Very entertaining and fast to read!
This was the first book in this author that I have read. It was very well done. In fact I have already purchased two other if her books. It was an excellent addition to this Kindle World. I loved the characters!
Wow, what a thrill ride, I would recommend this book to adults that enjoy stories that are funny, steamy, suspenseful, and romantic, with strong characters both male and female. Well done.
Good story, bad spelling out grammar. But that's what you get with can fiction, I guess. No editing. Too bad. Would have given this five stars otherwise.
I love Catherine and the way she sees past peoples looks to see the real them, she could not be more perfect for Charlie...if only she would share her secrets. Charlie is such a giant teddy bear...he scowls and has this dark looking going on but it is just to protect himself from judgemental people, I love his confusion and surprise when Catherine sees straight past his scars - that is the moment he takes your heart. We also get a huge helping of Tex, Ghost, Fletch, the rest of the team and of course Annie in this book too, this is also available on Kindle Unlimited...fantastic!
Dnf. I didn’t think myself as a grammar-sensitive romance-reading-person cause English is not my mother language, but turned out, I kind of am. I really don’t get why people confuse ‘your’ and ‘you’re’ Was it just a typo?
