Earning Instructional Control (compliance) with challenging learners is paramount to optimal teaching outcomes in any behavior or learning program. Based on the Principles of Behavior, The 7 Steps to Earning Instructional Control procedure that is outlined in this 180 page manual is our preferred approach to creating motivated learners in the home, school and clinic settings. So whether you are a parent, teacher or seasoned behavior analyst, this book is a "must have," must read" and "must share" with your entire team.
This is a great resource for all who either work with kids with disabilities or parent/teach those kids. It is written in plain language, so it is accessible to the lay person, but proposes a more ethical and positive way to deal with behaviors that allow the child to escape the instructional setting. In the past, ABA practitioners were taught to use forced prompting, escape extinction, or punishment. The authors make an excellent case for using other techniques well established in the field of ABA to achieve the same result in a more pleasant way. I will certainly be using this book as one of my guides when training parents, teachers, and caregivers.
