Inkle Loom Design & Construction

Rate this book
This is for anyone who wants to buy, design, &/or build an Inkle loom. It will show the weaver what to look for in a loom, as well as modify, repair or build their own. They're great projects for woodworkers since they’re fairly simple & generally forgiving to construct. They make unique & useful gifts that can be made inexpensively with hand tools. I'll explain the basics, design considerations, & include plans/drawings for nine looms, from lap to floor size, along with ideas for others & possible modifications. I recommend the PDF version which I'll email you with proof of purchase.

I grew up on the family farm with horses, sheep, cattle, fowl, dogs, cats, & a lot of other critters in north central Maryland. While the farm paid for itself, the family remodeling business was the steady income. I worked at that for about 15 years until an injury forced me to change my computer hobby into my career. It was tough at the time, but a great career move from an economic standpoint.

Now I'm the entire IT department for a small manufacturing company in Louisville, KY. My wife of 35+ years & I have a small hobby farm with horses, goats, dogs, & a cat. Taking care of the farm, woodworking, & various fiber arts take up my free time.

Written originally as an ebook, after several years of steady sales, many requests, & dropping paperback printing costs, I've now published it as an 8-1/2" x 11" paperback. This should be easier to make notes in & use in the shop.

By far the best book on constructing an Inkle loom. This is well detailed, Jim’s attention to what weavers want makes knowing it will be worth building because it has been tested.
Thanks Jim!

Jim is just the right person to write this book. He has obviously put in a lot of thought to building all kinds of inkle looms. He covers various builds with various warp lengths. He also has an army of great testers, including his own daughter. He must be quite the mathematician as well as a good woodworker. When I reached out to him to see what he thought would be the best loom to fit what I needed, he was quick and friendly to reply. He also sent me a PDF. Like I said, Jim was the right person to write this book.
