On the Edges of Elfland: A Fairy-Tale for Grown Ups

Rate this book
Alfred Perkins was an ordinary young man who grew up in the small English village of Carlisle. When he was a boy his godfather, old Oliver Cyning, used to tell him stories about Elfland, the place where all the fairies, elves, gnomes, goblins, and more lived. Alfred grew up believing in those stories. One day, Mr. Cyning told Alfred they had to stop spending time together. Eventually, Alfred stopped believing. Now Alfred has returned home from university and has made the startling discovery that his godfather had not lied to him and that now his fate, along with that of the village, was tied to that of Elfland and it was Alfred's job to save them both. David Russell Mosley is adjunct Lecturer in Theology at Johnson University. He is the author of Being Poetry and Fantasy on the Path to God (2016/Forthcoming). David is husband to his wife Lauren and his twin sons, Theodore Nicholas George and Edwyn Arthur Russell.

Fairytales aren't just for kids anymore. In the style of Tolkein and C.S. Lewis, Mosley tells a fairytale full of elves, dwarves, and compelling storytellers. I know David and know all the work he put into this and I loved it, not just because he is my friend but because I really did enjoyed it. David is a great storyteller and I loved him language and the characters he created. This was a quick read that I know I will read again.

A delightful tale of humans, elves, fairies, dwarves, gnomes, trolls, giants, goblins, hobgoblins, dragons and brownies. A tale as old as time. Good against evil, but with a twist. Evil is not simply killed. A chance is given for redemption.
I read this without stopping and would recommend it to anyone who likes Tolkien type fantasy. It is very much simpler, but a lovely way to pass a few hours. It can be read by anyone from middle school to adults.
