“Police! Who goes there?” the cry goes out as a shaking torchlight illuminates a ghostly figure. The figure hangs for a moment then disappears and the officer is changed forever. Suddenly, a world that made sense has been turned upside down and the terrified family who first called the police remains uncomforted. This family is not alone though, for all over the world, police officers come in contact with the strange and the paranormal. If it were anyone else, we would dismiss these tales as falsehoods by most. But the people in these stories are not unreliable witnesses or fanciful con artists; they are the men and women who serve our communities when terrifying forces seek to harm us. Our patrollers are trained to observe, to remember details, and to never assume things are as they seem; the officers involved in these stories have never been able to find rational explanations for their experiences. These accounts come from officers across the globe, from devout Catholics to staunch Atheists and everyone in between who could not have imagined what they would come across when they took their calls, and many of them wish they could forget their experiences after they did. Delve into these eighteen stories and discover that even those charged with protecting us witness things they were never equipped to deal with. If you are a non-believer, withhold your judgment until you have read the chillingly convincing evidence for yourself. If you already believe, you will know the fear these officers faced. When your job is to confront the evils that people can do to each other, to protect those who are unable to against harm, it is inevitable you will one day find something that you cannot protect. After all, as Nietzsche once said, “And if thou gaze long into an abyss, the abyss will also gaze into thee.” Ready to scare yourself senseless? Scroll to the top of the page and hit buy!
First of all, this is very poorly written. On one hand, some of the tales were a bit creepy ( I'm easily scared) but on the other, it felt like lacking a lot. This book was presented like REAL police ghost Stories, and foolishly I believe it. I thought this book would hold more credibility because the tales come from real Police Officers but they were just a lot of made-up stories. There were no names, no places, no sources, no dates, just an utterly implausible account of facts and dubious police procedures. I believe the author just made up the stories, twisted a couple of urban myths, and claimed they were told by law enforcement officers.
The grammar and spelling and missing words was just horrible! The stories were okay. It felt a little rushed with hardly any build up but it was likeable. Please fire your editor!
This is the second book I've read by this author. They're easy reading, informative of haunted places that real police men and woman have experienced. I'd just like a little bit more from these books. They pass the time away, but for paranormal lovers they're quite timid.
for me, paranormal stories coming from cops and people in the military tend to hold a bit more weight just because the chance for them to be ridiculed is p. high, that's why i enjoy reading abt them. anyway this book was short and definitely should be read at night for extra spookiness!!
Although the stories was short ones , wow 😯 I really enjoyed them all , I’ve read another book by this author Zachery Knowles , definitely will be buying more 5/5
"The officer next described hearing a strange thump in the next room, loud enough to send the gooseflesh crawling up his arms. His radio announced backup was on the way, but would be another five minutes before arriving. Wanting to deal with the sound quickly, the officer, despite the young man’s protests, pushed the door to the room open,..."
The book contains a number of horror citings, paranormal incidents happened to police officers while on patrol or 5150 or other emergency calls from panic striken citizens. Dutiful officers who work day and night, believers or atheist, had to believe certain unexplainable logicless encounters they have had during their night patrols or workshifts.
This is a short series of stories, which has many ghost or paranormal citings that leave us in a question mark in the end. Its an addition to my short and sweet series as well as my halloween reading journal 🧡
#suggested to all #reallife #paranormalciting lovers.
I first heard the audio book version of the author's Ouija board horror stories and greatly enjoyed it. I decided to check out other books by this author as well. This edition concerns weird true encounters that police officers have experienced. Unlike another reviewer who didn't really understand the material, this is a great collection of strange paranormal encounters that police were called to investigate. Events of this nature are generally out of the officers known realm of experience. Some genuinely creepy tales here.
Some people are giving it hell because of a couple of punctuation and grammar mistakes, big deal. My three comes from the shortness and quality of writing compared to others of the same price. However despite that this is still money well spent. You will probably, like me, sit and read this in one sitting. It is short true stories told by police with no frills, just the facts or what they see as the facts. It's a complete thrill ride which will shock you and make you think. Let's hope he brings out another.
I’ve been a cop for almost 2 decades and have actually had two experiences where I could not explain what I had observed. There are small details in these stories that only someone who has worked in Law Enforcement will notice. It doesn’t take away from the stories, just adds to them for a small group. And if you are a cop and read this, do it on your midnight shift while you’re sitting in your cruiser. You’ll check your mirrors a little more than normal.
I love a good ghost story and tales of urban legends. This book has a varied collection of paranormal stories taken from police reports. Some of the stories were spine chillingly creepy and had me looking over my shoulder on several occasions. I liked that each ghost tale was 4-5 pages long. This book is perfect for creepy ghost stories around a campfire or for those cold winter nights when you want to curl up by the fire with a cozy blanket and a hot drink. I really enjoyed this book, the author packed a lot into a small book.
Meh; They ( Nearly All ) seem like contrived stories …
…That we’re created by reasonably articulate teenagers for campfire ghost tales, & Not The Shorter ‘This Happened to me — Or my cousin told me this story that happened to them ( ? )’ — All of The Stories seem to be carefully contrived ‘Narrations’ with a crafted Beginning,Middle & Ending, with a Moral Ending for each. Real Ghost stories are fragments that come off as ‘What The heck happened to me ! ?’ & remain mysterious in their simplicity & never presenting any kind of explanation ! C-
It is always interesting to me to read paranormal stories from hard-nosed, difficult to ruffle people. Having no vested interest in making up stories about ghosts or something else supernatural, I’m apt to believe these tales from law enforcement. For every eerie story told I wonder how many other terrifying stories are hidden under the rug by police departments who do not wish to encounter public scrutiny, which can be far more upsetting than anything ghostly.
I like to read these around Halloween and I happen to have read this one during my shift at night. There were times that the hair on my arms went up. There are other times that I wonder if I'm seeing something described in the short story at my place of work. Either way, guilty pleasure or a way to freak myself out, it was a fascinating read about a group that I only brush against in my work. May they stay safe.
The grammatical mistakes throughout this book are horrendous. Clearly it wasn't edited.
Still, I was excited to read about some true ghost stories as told by police. Only, each story was only about 2-4 pages (e-book format) and it just wasn't enough to really get me into each telling.
Not a terrible book, but if it had been much long than it was (total), I may not have finished it (it was 93 pages).
The stories in this book are quite eerie, and a couple of them i found positively unsettling. If you like ghost stories then I'm sure you will enjoy this collection as I did. My only gripe is that the book is too short! Easily read in an evening. No matter, good scary stuff.
My favorite story was "5150," which was about a young man who saw something no one else could, and his mom thought it was because of drugs. I did not like "The Woman in Chains." Technically, it wasn't a ghost story, and it was not very believable. Overall, the stories in here will make you put down the book to see what that "bump in the night" was that just happens to come from your living room.
Oh, you have got to read this book. It is so good with short stories of each policeman's experience with seeing ghosts. Remember, these are real cops with all the training to go up against the worst there is but ghosts seem to be a different thing entirely. Read it, you'll love it I'm sure.
Many different strange stories about the police and security operatives who have to attend some very unnerving calls for assistance in some of the most unnerving locations that the normal everyday person would choose not to go anywhere near
I found the stories in this book easy to read. I felt for the police who had to go through some really creepy experiences as part of their job. Rather a short book, I was disappointed when it came to an abrupt end.
Having stories told by the police about paranormal events is a great way to let people know that it just isn't a did farmer from Missouri. Much more credible information.
A good read, plenty of goosebumps creating moments. Would have preferred just ghost based stuff as the occult obsession element is to my taste. But that's just me.
