Note: This is book 2 and has been combined with book 1 (Dalton) & book 3 (Parker) into a box set: The Cotton Tree Ranch series. Books are best listened to in order as storylines build from events in previous books. This review will contain spoilers to book 1, Dalton.

DNF - This didn’t work for me at all and I finally just gave up. It’s like the author was going for enemies to lovers or something, but really Emily is just in a bad mood. She snipes at Eamon a lot but never apologizes for it.

Emily is in town for Dalton & Hazel’s wedding. She says she feels sick during the reception and Eamon offers to take her home and then feels that’s an appropriate time to kiss her. He also has a girlfriend when he kisses her. Not a great start.

She’s in town from Boston for only 3 days, finds Eamon attractive, and decides to look for a job nearby. The writing feels choppy, events are unsupported by anything - but there’s a whole chapter about fixing an air conditioner. There’s no chemistry between the MCs. I just gave up.

Narration:
I like Dawson McBride’s southern drawl. However his slow delivery accentuates the already stilted pacing of the writing.

I recommend reading Dalton, the second book in this series before reading this novella. The opening scene is the wedding of Dalton and Hazel, the protagonists from Dalton and most of the primary players from Dalton carry forward to Eamon. The few errors that found their way past the editor’s eye were not at all distracting. I continue to be amazed at Vivi Holt’s talent for creating relatable characters who are burdened with realistic problems. Her ability to keep me turning pages as the tale is told is top notch. I am looking forward to finishing the next two novellas in the series.

It's an interesting story that had potential. The novel is largely plot driven, jumping from one scene to the next without very much character development. So many things happen within a very small amount of pages. Aside from the photo not containing someone who looks Asian while the female lead is Asian, there is the stereotypical "bringing honor to the family" and "you don't understand my culture" statements that are made when the main characters discuss the future. In some contexts and some subject matters it might be appropriate but that parents having expectations of their children and wanting their children to listen to them is specific to Asian culture makes me cringe. Don't many parents across different cultures also have these expectations? Overall, just an okay book.

I really enjoyed book 2 (Dalton and Hazel's story) and was not disappointed with Eamon (Dalton's brother) and Emily (Hazel's bff) story.
Emily has come to Tifton, GA to attend Hazel's wedding. She has just completed her surgical residency and is glad for the brief respite before she begins her permanent job at Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston. While she is attracted to Dalton's brother, Eamon, she is hesitant to act on it because she knows that her Chinese-American parents will not approve. As the only child, Emily has been raised to bring honor to the family by succeeding in her career and marrying a professional Chinese-American. She is already on a tight rope with her father, a neurosurgeon, by not specializing and becoming a general surgeon. With all of these thoughts swirling in her head, Emily really does not have time for much else...until her expected job is given to someone else. Now she has a few weeks to contemplate her next steps. Fate gives her an opening...there is a general practitioner position available at a Tifton clinic, with surgical privileges at the nearby hospital. Will Emily go against her parents wishes and accept this 'menial job' and move to the middle of nowhere? Will she pursue a relationship with Eamon? When Hazel returns home with some life changing news, it seems as if Emily is right where she is supposed to be!
Eamon Williams is an accountant turned rancher. He gave up his professional career a year ago to help save his family's ranch. Even though it is hard work, Eamon is enjoying the change of pace and the time spent with his family. With Dalton and Hazel on a two week honeymoon, Eamon is left to run the ranch...and possibly explore the chemistry between himself and Hazel's friend, Emily. Eamon is a great guy...he's patient, thoughtful and kind. Will he have his HEA with Emily?
This series is addicting! The love, bond and support between the Williams brothers is captivating and I am looking forward to reading Parker's story. Great book and narration.
I voluntarily accepted a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an unbiased review.

Emily Zhu is a Surgeon, just finishing her residency at the Brigham Hospital in Boston. When she travels to Tipton, Georgia for her friend's wedding, the furthest thing from her mind is falling in love! Eamon Williams is an accountant, but he and his brothers are running a horse ranch and he loves his new life. He, too, isn't really interested in love, but things happen!

Emily's dreams of working at the Brigham are dashed and she is left without a clue of what she is going to do with her life. Add in the fact that she comes from a very traditional Chinese-American family and her future has suddenly become complicated. Her whole life has been planned for her by her parents and she doesn't know if she can go against them in order to pursue a very different path with the man she has come to love.

This was another wonderful sweet romance written by Vivi Holt. Just as expected, there are some bumps along the way as the couple tries to find their way to be together, but the happily ever after ending that Ms. Holt's readers have come to expect is here. Ms. Holt has a wonderful way with words and her books are always very descriptive. Wonderful characters and a wonderful storyline make for a great book!

The narrator, Dawson McBride, has a very soothing voice and at times it was almost too soothing! The volume on my Kindle was turned up to the maximum and at times I had difficulty hearing the book. But, all in all, he did a wonderful job and added to my enjoyment of the book.

A minor complaint (really a pet peeve of mine): The cover characters did not depict the description of the characters in the book. I know it is a minor thing, but it still bothers me. Eamon was described as "blond" or "sandy" haired, but the cowboy on the book has very dark hair. Also, the woman on the front doesn't look like an Emily Zhu to me.

I was given a chance to listen to this book by the author and chose to review it.

Cowboys, need I say more? Eamon has come to Cotton Tree Ranch to help his brothers out. Emily comes to the ranch for Hazel and Dalton's wedding...and the sparks fly. The problem is, Emily's life is back in Boston where she is going to be a high powered surgeon, and Eamon still has a girlfriend he left back in the city. But life never is as certain as expected. When Emily finds out her job offer is no longer available, she begins to re-evaluate her priorities. And can Eamon continue a long distance relationship? This story is full of self awareness, and growing. Vivi Holt writes with elegance as the story unfolds, giving Emily a lot to deal with. She has to decide if surgery is what she wants, would she be happy in a quiet town, can she break from her dominating parents? And is the pull to Eamon strong enough to keep her at Cotton Tree? Eamon is a great man, who knows what he wants and goes after it. It's refreshing to have characters that are true to life, so much so that you feel like they could be friends of yours. This installment is a great addition and I can't wait to hear Parker's story as well as the continuation of Hazel's situation.

Dawson McBride is the best choice for this series. His smooth baritone voice gives us the true feeling of ranch life.I love his different voices for the men, but really love that his female voices are not forced. He is wonderful.

A sweet romance that will warm your heart!

Eamon is a well-written book that will keep you entertained from the beginning to the end. This story is full of romance that will touch your heart. The plot moves at a good quick pace keeping in line with a novella. This fresh, new storyline is quick to read, captivating, and kept my attention to the very end. The characters were well developed and easy to like. I love that the author creates characters that are flawed and not perfect. It keeps the story real and believable. Vivi Holt is one author who knows how to create a story with enough romance and action to keep the reader entertained and interested.

Eamon is another book from a very gifted author that I had the pleasure to read. I have not been disappointed yet! Vivi Holt is a very talented author that tells remarkable stories that captivate you and will have you not wanting to put the book down. Definitely, an author that you will want to keep on your go-to list. If you enjoy reading sweet romances, then you will thoroughly enjoy this book and the series. A truly touching and entertaining read.

Eamon ( Cowboys and Debutantes Contemporary - Book #3 )
By: Vivi Holt
Eamon is book three in Cowboys and Debutantes Series. Wow, I absolutely loved Eamon. I have read the first two stories , but seems like Ms Holt just keeps getting better and better. Ms Holt carries us back to the Cotton Tree Ranch . She did not disappoint. She had me hooked right from the start and I did not want tout it down. This is Eamon’s story. He is a successful accountant who goes to help his brother out on his ranch. Eamon and Emily meet at a wedding and there is attraction right away. Eamon already has a girlfriend. Emily is a surgeon in Boston. This handsome cowboy is not for her.
I was given a complimentary copy of this book, but was not told that I had to give a positive review.

I've just finished reading this book and I must say, it is some of the best writing I've seen from this author. I have been a fan of Vivi Holt for quite some time and each book gets better and better. The storyline in Eamon is terrific. When the oldest brother, Dalton gets married to Hazel, there is a big celebration with lots of friends and family. Among those friends is, Emily who is a bridesmaid and loved by everyone. The chapel is filled with people, everyone is excited and tears are falling over the expected ceremony. There are so many great things happening in this book that it is a must read for everyone. I cried over some things and laughed over others. There is even a silly dog. Thanks for a great read and a wonderful time I've had in reading this story.

This is an audio that will grab you .book 3 in the series . Vivi writes about a tme pass by . It’s the romantic time of America where life and love was true .
Hero is Eamon. Heroine is Emily

Emily is in Georgia for a wedding. Emily’s parents have always pushed her to become a top surgeon, Emily was only planning on staying for a few days for the wedding but it turns out she will be staying longer . Her occupation in Boston didn’t last long .
Eamon leaves his comfortable job as an accountant to help on his brother farm. He knows his brother needs help. Eamon is enjoying helping his brother and I know living on the farm is for him .
When Eamon and Emily meet there is an interesting reaction to each other .
Grab it and see will there be another Wedding in the future

Traditions

Nice, shy, competent, uptight Emily has spent her entire life conforming to the demands of her parents to succeed, exceed, and excel in all ways. Having completed her residency and accepted an offer at the hospital of her choice in Boston, she flies down to Georgia to participate in her friend's wedding to a cowboy. Okay, he owns the horse breeding ranch on which she is invited to stay while enjoying her first break in years. And then everything seems to break down (yes, bad pun intended). Narrator Dawson McBride's rich, gravely voice provides a soothing background to the drama which ensues as tragedy befalls the ranch and Emily must choose her path.

What a wonderful story about Eamon a cowboy working a ranch with his brothers and Emily, a new surgeon and friends with Damon's sister on law. Emily has always tried to please her parents even though it makes her stresses and unhappy. She starts a relationship with Eamon and realizes this is where her happiness is. She finds a job in their small town as a part time general practioner and part time surgeon much to her parents chagrin. This story is about overcoming fears and finding self-worth without the approval of others. I was sorry when the story ended.

Cotton Tree Ranch

Eamon Williams quit his jog as a accountant to become partners with his brothers at the ranch in Georgia. Emily Zhu has come to the ranch for Hazel and Dalton's wedding.
Emily just graduated from residency as a surgeon in Boston. She hadn't planned to stay long after the wedding but when her job fell through in Boston she decided to stay awhile.
As her and Eamon get closer in a budding relationship she decides to change her life plans.

A very enjoyable short story by a new author to me.

You are a successful accountant who gives it all up to help his brother run his brother's newly inherited ranch in southern Georgia. His path crosses with a successful surgeon at his brother's wedding. She doesn't get the position at a famous Boston hospital she's worked years to achieve. Throw in the fact that her parents who are different culture and very driven and do not approve of her not finding another surgeon's job. This is second book about three brothers.

Hero: Eamon -- Heroine: Emily
Reading Enjoyment:4.5* I enjoyed this story about new beginnings. Eamon and Emily basically give up their old lives and start a new. There were twist and turns but that is part of life, what one thinks one wants wone find out it isn't what one really wanted at all.

The cowboy and the surgeon

Going to a friend's wedding in a Georgia country town really shouldn't change the life of an up and coming surgeon, but meeting a handsome cowboy just might. Another wonderful romance by Vivi Holt, with a fresh heroine and an original storyline, sweet and clean.
