New Corpse in Town

FBI agent Cookie James is enjoying her extended leave from the agency on Secret Seal Isle, managing her quaint inn and flirting with the oh-so sexy-handyman, Dylan Creed…until her sixty-year-old mother goes skinny dipping and is almost drowned by a corpse.

A phone call to the sheriff should mean the end of Cookie’s involvement, but when it’s clear the sheriff has no interest in the investigation, Cookie calls in reinforcements…her ex-partner Hunter O’Neil. Suddenly it’s like old times while the pair questions the residents of Secret Seal Isle. Except it’s not. Now she has both Hunter and Dylan vying for her attention, a wayward hippy mother, and a potential killer on the loose.

With her love life heating up, her mother lighting up, and all signs pointing to the most unlikely suspect, Cookie does the only thing she knows to do—focus on solving the case.

Life in the Dead Lane

All Cookie James, FBI agent and Innkeeper extraordinaire, wants is a romantic date with her hot handy man… but what she gets is a corpse presented with a big red bow.

When she and Dylan discover a boat with a dead body, not only is her picnic ruined, but a woman from Dylan’s past returns to the island. The famous rock star appears to want a comeback tour with her former bodyguard. But Cookie doesn’t have time to worry about that, because her oh-so-sexy ex-FBI partner has arrived, too. And he’s ready to make a little music of his own.

With an entangled love life, too much manscaping, and a songbird in trouble, it’s once again Cookie’s job to wrap up another murder.

A Walk on the Dead Side

All Cookie James wanted was a romantic island picnic with her sexy handyman, Dylan Creed. What she got was a lobster trap full of drugs. As an ex-FBI agent, Cookie's determined to hand the evidence off to local authorities and stay out of the fray. But when a package arrives with a gory warning, she has no choice but to call in her former partner, Hunter O'Neil and investigate the case.

Hunter’s arrival brings more than crime fighting expertise. He'd like his connection to Cookie to finally be more than professional. There's no denying the sparks between them. Except with Dylan in the picture, Cookie's realizing someone else might be lighting her fire. Unfortunately, her love life is going to have to wait. Between kidnappings, attempted murder, and stolen kisses, Cookie James has a case to solve.

Lucy Quinn is the brainchild of New York Times bestselling author Deanna Chase and USA Today bestselling author Violet Vaughn. Having met over a decade ago in a lampwork bead forum, the pair were first what they like to call “show wives” as they traveled the country together, selling their handmade glass beads. So when they both started writing fiction, it seemed only natural for the two friends to pair up with their hilarious, laugh-out-loud, cozy mysteries. At least they think so. Now they travel the country, meeting up in various cities to plan each new Lucy Quinn book while giggling madly at themselves and the ridiculous situations they force on their characters. They very much hope you enjoy them as much as they do.

Deanna Chase, is a native Californian, transplanted to the slower paced lifestyle of southeastern Louisiana. When she isn’t writing, she is often goofing off with her husband in New Orleans, playing with her two shih tzu dogs, or making glass beads.

Violet Vaughn lives in coastal New Hampshire where she spends most mornings in the woods with her dogs, summer at the ocean, and winters skiing in the mountains of Maine.

I really enjoyed this series. They are easy reading with fun characters. I read them one right after the other and didn't get bored or annoyed by them. That is saying a lot!!

This serial - and it as a serial, not a series in which each volume would be complete in itself! - should come with a warning about the sex-crazed mother and daughter! Constant innuendo was, surely, unnecessary! A good proof-reader would have picked up a number of typos, etc.

New Corpse in Town (Secret Seal Isle Mysteries #1)
This is a very nice suspenseful but relaxing read. I love most of the characters as they are very nicely developed, and I am looking forward to reading more about them. The main female protagonist, Cookie is fun, outgoing, smart and interesting character. Then we have a mysterious handyman Dylan who is just fabulous. And we have Hunter, Cookie's ex partner from the FBI, who is not very likable here, arrogant with overly high opinion of himself. Cookie's mother is a blast and definitely my favourite. I hope to see more of her in future books.
The plot and pace are very nice and it is easy just to get lost in the book. There is some romance as well and it is well laid out for the sequel.
Life in the Dead Lane (Secret Seal Isle Mysteries #2)
I loved this book, and since Hunter wasn't as irritating as in the first one, I can easily give it five stars.
Again, it is a suspenseful but relaxing read. I love the characters and their development.
Cookie is sharp, smart, and strong, and slightly confused about men in her life. There was a little bit less Dylan in this book but what we did see was a blast from his mysterious past. Hunter was much nicer than before. Cookie's mom, Rain was just hilarious, and now backed up by her best friend Winter. Their contribution was so funny and I really want to see more of them. There is more interaction with the coroner Dr. Delgado, who is also quite funny and nice. There is an array of supporting characters and I hope to see more of them in future books. We get to take a tour of the Isle and it is wonderful. I would definitely like to go and visit and stay at Cookie's inn.
The plot and pace are very nice and it is easy just to get lost in the book, just like with the first one.
This is the third book in the series and the best one so far and I have a feeling that the next ones will get even better. The writing is superb, as well as the character development and the world building.
Cookie is a fantastic character, at times a bit confused, which only adds to her charm. Other times she is all business, seasoned former FBI investigator, and even better when paired with her former FBI partner Hunter. Their chemistry is amazing, especially in the field.
Hunter's development on the other hand went from annoying protective macho type in the first book, to a lovable strong partner over the course of the next two books, but one thing never changed, and that is how much he cares for Cookie and how much she can rely on him and his help.
Dylan was featured a bit less than in the previous two books, or at least it felt that way. Maybe it feel like that because he remains a mystery, reluctant to divulge any details about himself or his past. I have a feeling that his time is either coming or he will be slowly phased out. I am curious either way, as the writers left so many possibilities and option for the story development. As much as I am curious about him, I won't be sorry to see him go if that happens, as this mysteriousness and his reluctance to open up and talk about himself is a bit annoying, especially because he insists to know secret details about Cookie.
And then there is Rain, Cookie's mom, is still one of the best characters ever created. She is hilarious and lovely and out of control and pure joy to be around. This book features her in great amount and that was probably one of the reasons I liked it more than previous books.
There are three more books in the series: Any Way You Bury It (Secret Seal Isle Mysteries Book 4), Death is in the Air (Secret Seal Isle Mysteries Book 5) and Signed, Sealed, Fatal, I'm Yours (Secret Seal Isle Mysteries Book 6). This is my absolute favourite cozy mystery series, it is only getting better, and I highly recommend it.

light mystery

I really like these books. We have an F.B.I. agent in something resembling witness protection, her never-got-over-her-hippie-days weed smoking mom, and her delectable fellow islander. Then there’s her former agency partner popping up when a crime needs solving. On an island where nothing worse than a drunk and disorderly used to happen, Cookie seems to have drawn murder with her when she arrived. Each of these books is light reading, a little comedy and love interest thrown in to keep them from getting too heavy. I’m thinking I might need to see what happens next.

Easy read

The first two books were VERY similar. I almost lost interest. This third book was a bit more fun.

There is one thing that bothers me. I'm not sure who did the proofreading of the three books but they didn't do their job well. There are many misspelled words and grammatical errors. Maybe this problem is only in the digital platform. I just know, if it was my book, I wouldn't be happy it was published as such. These errors reflect on the author.

Great law and order stories.

I loved all 3 books. They each started where the previous story ended, so you stayed up to date on Secret Seal Island, its inhabitants, and especially the romance angle between Dylan and Cookie....or is it Cookie and Hunter, her FBI partner. All great books!

Great characters and brilliant scenarios

I don't usually read books about murders as such but was tempted as it was set on Secret Seal Island which sounded delightful. I finished the first part of the trilogy and just had to read all three parts as the characters were so likeable - the good ones anyway! I recommend this read.

These stories were okay. I don't like all the drug use, especially right in front of law enforcement. The stories weren't as intriguing as I like for a murder mystery. The main character, Cookie was just annoying with her constant indecision. These were not for me, but I encourage you to read them and form your own opinion.

Characters are well written, believable, and most of all, likeable.

Really the only thing I didn't like about these books is how she knows what she wants at the end of one and then magically seems to forget that decision and is "confused" again the minute you start the next book. SMH Other than that, enjoyable light read.

Entertaining enough BUT...

I found Cookie too soft to believe that she was ever an FBI agent. Also, the fact that her ex-partner persisted in calling her by her real name wasn't acceptable. Finally, the ending to the second story was just wrong (after the arrest).

An Entertaining Series

Two FBI partners, one in hiding from the Mafia, the other available to solve crimes together on an isolated Maine island join forces to bring justice where needed. Several quirky side characters bring humor and help.

Murder, drugs, etc. in a sleepy island village is a delight to read. Lucy Quinn leaves us wondering whom the heroine with choose as her boyfriend. So, yes, there's romance in these novels, too.

Oh heavens. Sort of entertaining but not paying any heed to any kind of police procedure at any level, in spite of constantly banging on about it. Not to forget the ongoing innuendo. By book 2 I was thoroughly tired of muscular forearms, smouldering eyes and sexy bums. And who on earth supervises a bloke painting the porch with a gun in her belt? Which middle-aged woman in her right mind encounters a water corpse and the next thing she does is flirting with the handyman? And what do you do if you have received a body part in the post but the local deputy is drunk? Of course, DO NOT contact the sheriff, but bring the thing directly to your friendly medical examiner. You find a cache of drugs? Of course, bang it in your home freezer, with the severed body part on top! And I also couldn't figure out why on earth she didn't finish her picnic in book 2. I mean, the drugs wouldn't have gone anywhere in the meantime? Jeeeezus give me patience. Really don't want any more of this.
