The quest of the Seven Swords has unleashed catastrophic war. Ridmark Arban is the Shield Knight, the only Swordbearer in the realm of Owyllain. He is allied with the noble King Hektor Pendragon, who fights to reunify the Seven Swords and to end the destructive war they have unleashed. But the tyrannical King Justin Cyros is marching to war against Hektor, and King Justin knows the secret of the malevolent New God, a secret that will kill everyone in Owyllain. Starting with Ridmark and his family...
Standing over six feet tall, USA Today bestselling author Jonathan Moeller has the piercing blue eyes of a Conan of Cimmeria, the bronze-colored hair of a Visigothic warrior-king, and the stern visage of a captain of men, none of which are useful in his career as a computer repairman, alas.
He has written the DEMONSOULED series of sword-and-sorcery novels, and continues to write THE GHOSTS sequence about assassin and spy Caina Amalas, the COMPUTER BEGINNER'S GUIDE series of computer books, and numerous other works. His books have sold over one million copies worldwide.
This series is certainly moving faster than the previous one, and that is all the for the better. The action picked up from the first page, and while the first half did follow a rough formula, I was pleasantly surprised by the appearance of a few old friends, and the tentative inclusion of a new one. The climax exploded onto the scene very early, and kept me turning pages. The resolution was a little short, but that was to be expected, and I was delighted some of the antagonists are finally getting ink, so we can better determine their motives. Very much looking forward to the next book in the series.
Well it seems that Ridmark, Calinade and their allies seem to have gotten involved in a civil war but not in their own homeland one for which they were taken to not of their own free will. Seems that before the war though they gained to great powerful allies one of them from there homeland and a new one. AS fate may have it it just might be barely enough to change the battle in their favor. Great battles and characters make a great series and Moeller continues to do that here.
This book follows the short story Third’s Tale which doesn’t have to be read but it’s a fun break. The adventures keep coming and getting better. Moeller is now one of my favourite authors. This is followed by another short story - Calliande’s Tale which is another quick fun read
Summary: A dark book, very little joy to be found, but interesting characters, a comprehensive premise and a plot that moves on nicely. Just more of the same. Its crying out for a few diversions
Plotline: Well thought out and moves along pretty quickly
Premise: Interesting magic and magical artifacts
Writing: Pretty good, good descriptions
Ending: One feels this will go on for ever, but a another nice victory.
Just a 3.5 rounded up. Still a great mystery behind it all, and a few more pieces have been revealed, but this book was a bit clumsy in its efforts. Perhaps if not read back-to-back one wouldn't notice the repeated lines/presentations, but they stood out in this third volume, as did the absence of a few things. Still delivers on the terrific and enjoyable characters and their variety of powers, though it would be good if at least one of the ever-growing inner circle were to die...There's just too many too powerful too good, the threats are starting to pale. Oh, and there did seem to be less blinking all around.
Honestly...I love everything I’ve ever read by Moeller. This one continues the adventures of Ridmark Arban. As always, Moeller builds a world and populates it with interesting characters and a well paced plot. I can’t wait for the next one!
As the Shield Knight and the Keeper struggle to find a way to rescue themselves and their children and find the way back to their home they must fight. Fight in wars and in subterfuge. The answer to this will only come through pain and courage.
I like the story, I really do, but the author needs to find a different way to incorporate recaps within the story. Either leave them out, change up the delivery, or stop repeating key plot elements so many times. Otherwise, I'm enjoying the story thus far!
This series just gets better and better. Following Ridmark and Calliande as they match with Hektor Pendragon and his army. To battle against Justin Cryos and the Sword of Earth more is revealed about the seven swords and an old friend of Ridmark arrives in Owyllian.
Great new addition to the saga of Ridmark and Calliande. Love all the new characters and the new adventures. I really want to know who the Masked One is going to be.
I loved how Calliande used the trisalians. In my mind, I picture triceratops, and it would be terrifying if triceratops charged an army. Well, on to the next book!
