What if I told you that every fairytale you’ve ever read all took place in one world?
Cantata is a world filled with love, lust, and magic. However, lurking behind the perfect smokescreen are the cursed ones; the forgotten, the damned, and the downright terrifying and they’re fed up with the so-called heroes getting all the credit. Marisa is thrust into a world of sadistic seduction and power plays. When she agrees to marry the Duke of Melgorn, a man with tastes she could never satisfy. Between him, the Prince, and her best friend, Marisa is forced into making a difficult decision that poisons her core and leaves her cursed. Left to rot in the now derelict kingdom, she lives out her days in the castle waiting to find someone as power-hungry as she is to inflict the curse on, thereby freeing herself. Prince George or Domor is not a stranger to curses. Living as a frog because of his scorned ex-fiancé, Amelia has left him with a taste for more power. Finally, free of his curse, he stumbles into the castle in the abandoned kingdom of Melgorn and meets his fate. The only one who can break his curse is a woman who will do anything to protect her family. However, the vengeful Amelia won’t let him get his happily-ever-after.
Combining Beauty and the Beast, Hansel and Gretel, Rumpelstiltskin, and Snow White, Cursed tells the stories of what happens to the Cursed Ones in a land filled with magick.
Fairytales for Adults Contains erotic and violent scenes ~Haunting Fairytales Revamped~
This is the first book that I have read by RL Weeks. She writes an interesting twist to the Fairytales of old. The first story 'Toad Prince' has everything you would expect of a fairytale, princes, princesses, curses and a fascinating storyline. I can't wait to see where the story will take me next. In the second fairytale RL Weeks story of 'Beauty's Beast' was a moving yet sad storyline, reminiscent of Hans Christian Anderson's Fairytales. RL Weeks portrays her fairytales with such a unique twist that it is impossible to know where it will go from here. In 'Spin Me A Wish' the third story of the Haunting Fairytales Collection RL Weeks unique twist on the fairytales that we know has some surprising twists and turns. You never know where the story is going to lead you next. I'm enjoying the tragic twists that RL Weeks has added to these familiar tales. In the last story 'Snow' we have a plot of good versus evil, but who will prevail is still not know. All the twists and turns to her stories have continued to intrigue me. This Haunting Fairytales Collection by RL Weeks has elements from original fairytales that we all know. She puts a unique twist on their stories that you would never have expected. Many story characters are intertwined together in such a way that seemly works well. It's not your average HEA kind of fairytales. They are filled with all the characters trying to make the best of the situation that they are in.
Remember when we were kids and twisted fairytales were fun and light-hearted? Forget those. In these macabre tales, Snow White's dwarves are killed, Ariel's sisters are man-eating sirens, and Beauty's father is messily devoured. It also features kick-ass versions of Snow White and Red Riding Hood. Would I be a messed up person if I might read the rest of the series?
R.L. Weeks has made an excellent job of re-working traditional children's fairy tales into adult, but not rude, fantasy tales loosely based on the original stories. She has cleverly woven The Frog Prince into Beauty And The Beast, assisted by Rumplestiltskin, meets Snow White and The Little Mermaid. Many other well known characters make an appearance with much use of magic and charm. It's one of those stories that keeps on giving – the links between characters and the progressive story are quite incredible and must take a very organised mind to pick up all the loose ends without leaving a toad or apple forgotten in the wrong kingdom or timeline.
If original fairy tales with a turbo charge of magic and mystique is your kind of reading material, then you could do no better than start with this first volume of haunting tales.
I've been reading a lot of fairy tale retellings and while this one was interesting, it was very predictable. Like A LOT! I found myself skimming over parts which I hate doing.
I was so excited to have the opportunity to read Cursed. I really enjoy R. L. Weeks' books and knew this one would be great as well. I was immediately transported to a new world through the words and descriptions. Part One had such a dark and haunted feel to it. It left me wondering what would happen next and if the darkness could be overcome. When the story shifted over to Part Two, I felt a little bit lost. As some details were mentioned here and there, I wondered if I had missed something along the way. The story was still entertaining, but I felt as if there may have been some gaps and/or inconsistencies in the Hansel and Gretel portion of the book. Part Three got things back on track for me and I was completely hooked on the story again. The end of Part Three had me shocked and eagerly turning the pages to find out what would happen next. Part Four was deliciously dark and had the perfect blend of suspense and deception. Part Five had so much action building and I wanted to know how things would work out for many of the characters that I had grown quite fond of throughout the story. The ending of the story was pretty intense and left me wondering about a lot of loose ends. I will definitely need to pick up with Book Two to find out what happens next when it releases in April.
This was a very interesting and humorous short read. Seems like this series is going to have a lot going for it. It has many aspects in can go on. Can't wait to read the series
This is the BEST fairytale book with new twists on classic characters I have ever read! I pre-ordered this book but was given the chance to read an advance copy. The way the characters are re-imagined and all have something to do with one another is just brilliant. You see so many sides of a few of the main characters that you find yourself detesting some of them one moment and empathizing with them the next as their story unfolds. The darkness breaks your heart at times and shocks you so hard that you just have to keep reading. There are awesome strong female characters with great strength, intelligence and humor. The way they all intertwine on so many levels is just genius and nothing like you've ever read before. There is no confusion at all in this book that you sometimes find when dealing with multiple backgrounds and mash-ups. It's strewn together so well you feel like you just watched an incredible movie in your head and want to replay it. This is an absolute re-read for me and Vol. 2 comes out in October! YAY!!
I'm marking this as a 3 but it really didn't do it for me. Don't get me wrong it was really well written and it was a really original take on the fairytales; but I really didn't like it. Readers with different tastes will probably enjoy it but it was way too twisted for me...
Absolutely fantastic! As a lover of fairy tales these are totally amazing. Author R. L. Weeks has taken these Fairy Tales to a new limit. An insanely twisted roller coaster ride you just can’t get enough of!
This is the sequel to the Toad Prince. I am really loving these short stories. Though when they end, they leave me wanting to pull my hair out! Just when I think, maybe there will be a happily ever after...in comes the twist and it leaves me devastated.
I love the way the author uses well known fairy tales and twists them into something darker. This story introduces Bella (aka Belle) and at the very end, Ariel. Hopefully they somehow make it back into the other stories. This series is definitely a little twisted, but I somehow can't put it down until it's finished. I'm dying for the next one and I am really hoping after all the crazy twisted tales being spun, it somehow ends with an HEA. The author does a great job at weaving together fairytales and her own creative stories. Seriously loving this series!!
A gloomier and more manipulative twist on some fairy tales--the premise isn't a bad one. I just thought the execution was a bit mediocre. Although there were a few central characters that came up again and again, such as Edward the Frog Prince, Stilt, and Lori the Witch, who became different incarnates of various fairy tales, all in all, I just thought there were too many characters to keep track of. Not to mention, the collection was definitely more like a bunch of vignettes. The reasoning behind why the characters were the way they were was never clear, so it was difficult to buy into what they were doing. I would have preferred fewer characters with more insight into each of them.
Basically if you're looking for short stories with fairy tale references, this might be the book for you. Spoiler alert: no happy ending and no resolution.
R.L. Weeks has done it again with the second book in the collection. If you like Fairy Tales then this is the collection for you to check out. In this second part it has a beauty, a beast, a candlestick and a clock. I am sure you can put the pieces together with what collection this is about by now. I highly recommend that you one click the book or the collection to check it out. I also recommend that you read all of R.L. Weeks books that she has written you will not regret it.
Haunting Fairytales: Intertwined Fairytales for Adults By RL Weeks
So the story goes: Once upon a time on Cantata Princess Lori fell in love with Prince Edward. However, with a cruel twist of fate her happily ever after was shattered by the man she loved. In vengeance, she cursed him to live a loveless existence, weather that be as a frog or a beast until he truly learns to love another. However, Edward will not go down without a fight and will hurt anyone who gets in the way of what he wants, but every choice has a consequence and in this world filled with fairy tale creatures, one bad decision can undo all the happily ever afters.
Wow RL Weeks is simply amazing. This book was incredible. You will come across so many different characters. It starts with Hansel, Gretel and goes to Prince Edward as a frog as a beast, Rapunzel, Gisele, Princess Mary who is snow whites Mother, Finnr, the witch from Hansel and Gretel. Edward ends up banished to a land with a sorceress named Marisa, Caleb, Belle who we all know falls in love with a beast, her son James (who is also magical and doesn't know it, Lori who is Prince Edward's scorned lover and has started most of these curses, Stilt, Merlin the great sorcerer, Prince Eric, Ariel, Ursula the nasty sea witch and through all of the curses and characters I think the two meanest people were Lori and Ursela. This story has more curses, plots, twists, and turns then you will ever imagine, but it is brilliant. I'm not saying anymore because I don't want to give the story away. I can't wait to read book two because I truly enjoyed book one.
I am a total addict to this authors writings!!! I have loved fairytales since I was a little girl and now to have an author I love to read bring them all back with her own twists to them makes them all the better, what little girl wouldn't give to be able to have her fairytales all her life!!
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Cursed takes place in the world where all the fairy tales start. The link between all the story is that there are 7 talisman with curses that are carried by people so that the army of darkness doesn't find them. The book is cut into 5 parts. The story starts with the talisman for lust, I guess since you have Marissa going to marry a duke in a castle where orgies and sex assault are prevalent. It did sort of bother me to have the main character going through multiple assault and hating her body for it's response but never actually doing anything about it or having any sort of emotion showing until a total breakdown. Then the second part starts with Hansel and Gretel and a shoddy Prince/Frog called George appears. As Hansel and Gretel's story continues we follow George in his efforts to break his curses, yeah the poor guy jumps from fairy tales to fairy tales to do so. We have a glimpse at Rapunzel and Snow White, go back to Marissa, continue which Beauty and the Beast, get back to Snow.... All the fairy tales are linked by the vengeance of one hidden main character who is pulling the strings in the background.
The take on the fairy tales is interesting. I wish we would see more of the effect of the talisman because as it seemed to be the strongest pull to darkness in the first part, it also seems to be just the curse in the rest of the book without affecting the characters around it all that much.
If you asked any member of my family, they would tell you that I am a lover of all things Fairytale, slightly obsessed with Disney and my favourite show is ABC’s Once Upon a Time- in large part due to Colin O’Donoghue’s devilishly handsome Hook/Killian! So needless to say, when I was given the opportunity to read R L Weeks Haunting Fairytales, I jumped at the chance.
I was not disappointed! R L Weeks has put an interesting and unique spin on some classic fairytales and leaves out your typical HEA. I loved how the characters crossed over and intertwined within the stories. Volume One was entertaining and had many unexpected twists and turns. I look forward to reading Volume Two.
The stage is set for the fairy tales to begin. You get a taste with a touch of dark & twisted. Okay, maybe a little more than a taste. The descriptive words make it very easy to have the story play like a movie in your head. If you loved fairy tales as a kid you'll definitely want to read the NSFC (Not Safe For Children) versions!! I recommend this book and you will too when you finish!! So sit back and prepare to be transported to lands long ago and far away. Enjoy!!
I loved it!! I had gotten the book in exchange for my honest opinion. I really enjoyed reading Beauty's Beast, I couldn't put it down!! This is one of my favorite fairytales and to change and add some twists to it made it even better!! I can not wait for what is next in this series!! R.l is a awesome writer, u all should really check this series out!
This is a kinda of a collection of fairytales and how they all fit together. Stories you will recognize like The Princess and The Frog, Snow White, Hansel and Gretal, Beauty and the Beast. Only these are not your Disney version. No this is a twisted version of these stories. I can’t wait till the next one to continue with the stories. I really enjoyed this author’s take on these classics.
This is a collection of revamped adult (sexually explicit) fairy-tales. If you are a fan of RL Weeks you will recognize some of the stories, they have been changed in a few ways, details added in etc. Candy Treats is a new addition and it fit well into the tales. I like the way she makes all of the stories blend together in the land she has created.
Fantastically and dark fairytales with unique twists for adults. The author does a fantastic job of taking our childhood fairytales and turning them into adult fairytales. I loved each story in its own right. The characters are timeless but are put forth with a cursed tone. I love that they are twisted just enough and bring you into the realm of enchantment.
Absolutely loved the different fairytale stories in this book. Loved that all the loved and not so loved characters were intertwined. Was shocked how some storylines ended but I think they had to end this way to make the story haunting. Cannot wait to read volume 2.
I love the twisted retelling of the old fairytales that this Author does, with a little pinch here and sexiness there, all wrapped up in her new little world. All the tales blend together so beautifully and flow. Love the books Weeks creates! Never disappointed!
If you love sexy retellings of classic fairytales, you can't go wrong reading this book. R.L. Weeks is a very good writer and her descriptions really paint a picture as you read. Each story can be read as a standalone, but are tied together as a part of a bigger tale.

This is a very clever re-imagining of several fairy tales we all know quite well. I’ll admit I struggled a bit with this story in the beginning since I was focused too strongly on my recollection of those original tales while trying to sort this story out. Once I embraced this blended new world, the story flowed well and I was caught up in the adventure. As with most fairy tales, there’s a distinction between good and evil as well as consequences to one’s choices and actions. There is also of course, the theme of true love and its inherent power. Just as Prince Edward finds his way out of one jam, his decisions – usually self-serving, come back to haunt him in one way or another down the road. When he finally has his epiphany, will he be too late to right his wrongs? I enjoyed this action and adventure fantasy and the reinterpretation of several of the original tales. This story is intriguing with plenty of plot twists; magic, drama, angst, some violence, romance and some steamy scenes.

I grew up reading fairytales but even as a child it didn’t do anything for me. It didn’t seem real and I didn’t like reading these stories but had to listen and read them to my little sister. Let me tell you if I had an R.L. Weeks growing up I would of just gobbled up every single word and would of read every single Dark fairytale ❤️❤️
I have been reading her books for almost 2 years and I’m just amazed how beautiful her writing has such an affect on me while reading. She drew me into this wonderful story. I could see and feel everything around me. I loved everything about this book. I’m looking forward to reading part 2. I honestly don’t want to give anything away about this book since if you are a first time reader you should be beautifully surprised with this read♥️♥️
I loved this book. It is the beginning to an amazing series and I can not wait for book 2. I just simply couldn't put it away. The whole thing had my attention from page 1. I love how its every fairy tail we know but as adults this book is so much sweeter because they are twisted and in a way almost seem like the TV show once upon a time. The author is amazing at bringing in her own little details to these already amazing fairytailes and she just hit the ball out of the park and made this uniquely her own. I definitely recommend to anyone who loves a good fairytail especially since it's an adult version. Once again she has captured my heart!!! Great work!
