What if Jesus were in high school today? Who would he hang out with? What would he say? What would he do? Martha is overworked, overwhelmed, and She has to get top grades, keep her siblings in line, and single-handedly organize the youth group's upcoming trip to Mexico. Meanwhile, Eli Shepherd is trying to tell her to "relax" and trust a God that seems nothing like the God she has been taught to serve. Martha in on Eli, though, and she is determined to gather information on him that will prove to everyone what a fraud he really is.
Krista writes for teens, teaches teens, and more often than not, acts like a teen. She and her family have lived and ministered in Texas, Costa Rica, and Spain. Her current hometown is Tampa, FL.
This novella is really good. The best in the series to date. In this story we meet Martha, who happens to have a younger sister, Mary (who we met in the previous episode) and a younger brother, Laz. The threesome from Bethany in the Bible.
And this Martha, a 16 year old, is a great modern day depiction of the Bethany Martha. She works too hard, bosses people around and is a general worrier. Mary, her 15 year old sister, is drop dead gorgeous and gets lots of male attention but we don't see her lounging at Eli's feet like we do in the Bible.
We also get explained how Eli's parents gave birth to him. Guess what? It's similar to the miraculous virgin birth.
And then we meet Benjamin, the youth pastor who I'm presuming is portraying a church leader similar to the Pharisees in Jesus time. Ben doesn't appreciate Eli's thoughts and in fact believes he is misleading the youth.
The story ends with a miracle too which is a great way to finish it.
Easy to read and I hope this gets into the hands of some young people who don't believe in Jesus because it may help them discover Him. I hope the others in the series follow a similar bent to this one.
