DC has a woke policy. Inside of this comic book you will find some hidden ideas about it. It's very sad to use a comic book to spread ideology. not fun
Black Lightning: Cold Dead Hands Plot: Armed suspects (that call themselves “The Weathermen” because of their sci-fi guns) have robbed a casino and are attempting to flee the scene. Black Lightning arrives on the scene and sends a jolt of electricity at the Weathermen. He takes a hit from one of their guns, but the suit deflects the damage. One of the men sets a building up in flames. As pieces of the building go flying, BL’s powers are able to slow down some of the damage in order to save the people on the street. But then the police show up guns aimed (only at BL) and he makes his exit. Miss Pequod tells “Tobias Whale” that 2 of men were arrested and 1 escaped and is looking for revenge. The ones who went to court have been taken care of from telling “what they know”, “Tobias’s” sister arrives (sister? More like mother or great auntie). She finds out “Tobias” had her son killed for stealing his alias and using it to run his crime business. She threatens to rat him out to the cops, but before she can get the threat out he throws a figurine ship at her and kills her too. Pequod will clean up the mess, send out new test subjects to test the police and the superhero, and get Tobias a new ship. There’s a memorial in remembrance of Louis Pierce (Jefferson’s father). All everyone wants to talk about is BL’s return. The Detective says that the verdict will be split on whether the people are for or against BL. One of them says it's “them” and “us” and if they aren’t “us” he’s a threat. There’s a alert that the Weathermen are back and Jeff takes off. Detective Tommi Colavito, knows Jefferson’s secret, wishes him luck, and warns him to be careful. Meanwhile, she has to put a officer in check that won’t recognize the authority of her fellow officer (Denise Simms). The Weathermen (motivated by the money to bring BL down and new toys) demand BL. The police (as said by Detective Tommi) aren’t too happy with the new vigilante’s arrival in Cleveland. BL sneaks up from behind and again they arm their guns *at* him. The Weatherman now have two targets (BL and the police) and they fire. BL takes down the thieves but the cops still want to turn him over to the judge. He’s about to dip again but an unknown source of electricity fries all the Weatherman and leaves them dead (thanks to Pequod). Making it look like BL was behind it, the cops again turn on him. Tommi tells him to leave the scene. Tommi says they should worry about keeping the civilians calm and “Tobias” looks on pleased that this will change the citizen’s opinion of BL. M y Thoughts: This was…… different! “Tobias Whale” a dark-skinned man going under an alias? The alias though *does* sound like something the version I’m used to *would* do. The plot didn’t stray *too* too far a BL plot from the series as this could have *easily* been an episode. But it was a little short. Also, Louis Pierce? I thought it was Al (Alvin) Pierce. And speaking of that definitely does not look like Tori. Is this comic book wrong or is the show wrong? This was an interesting plot. It piqued my interest on where this will go and what other *huge* differences I’ll see. I choose this for Black History because BL was also one of the 1st African-American superheroes. The illustrations were ok. Nothing spectacular!
My first comic book. I hope to read this whole series so I bought the first two... maybe I should have got all of them. Love it. Definitely different from the TV Show which is why I decided to read it, but definitely worth it nevertheless.
