'A Royal Affair' is definitely a refreshing romance. This is the first time I have read a story of mixed race where the man is from India and that too a prince. The parallel tale of colonial romance adds to the spice in the story.
A modern day fairy tale with twists. A very engrossing read!

I don’t just love writing royal romances, I also enjoy reading them. So I simply had to pick up a copy of “A Royal Affair”, though the beautiful cover alone pulled me in. And it was a good choice as it made my Sunday a great deal more enjoyable.
We often see a ‘Western’ person fall in love with a hunk from a more exotic country, be it Greece or Italy or Spain or maybe a highlander from Scotland. But I’ve very rarely read romances where the man is from India. So it was an extra lovely treat to follow the story of Jane from England and her royal Vijay. I loved it that she was portrayed as such an Indophil,e craving Indian food and keeping up to date on the country. I loved it even more that her family has much closer ties to the Asian country than she would have ever suspected it. The author managed to cleverly interweave her contemporary quest for love with the tragic yet also magical one of her ancestors.
It was nice to catch a glimpse of the opulent palace as well as of the tumultuous past. But I almost loved it more to get to know the royal family, especially Vijay’s sister and the great-aunt Devika, my surprising namesake. The story flowed well, was fast-paced and revolved around several misunderstandings and second chances. I found myself rooting for these lovers, and immensely satisfied with their eventual happy ending.

Jane and Vijay's sizzling chemistry I enjoyed very much as a reader. Even the Royal romance was very minutely highlighted by the author. Her strong research on the Indian royals and how they carry about themselves is really very appreciable. Recommend to all those who love royal romances.

I was curious to read this latest book by Preethi Venugopala since my latest book is also about contemporary royals in India. This one has a British heroine and has all the makings of a Bollywood masala flick. It has a bit of a slow start, but soon the author compensates with an absorbing tale. A must read if you like romances set in India.

The title and the cover together invite you to get lost in the world of Royals and their stories.
A lot of research has been carried out by the author in putting even a minute detail about the characters who are not common but Royals. Kudos to Preethi for this commendable work. And when it comes to scene descriptions and showing true love , the author has surpassed even Nicholas Sparks.
I like the names of the characters: Jane, Vijay, and Kritika. It's a beautiful love story revolves around trustworthy characters Vijay and Jane. So much and so I fell in love with them, their journey, their separation.
Looking forward to reading the next book in this series.

What makes A Royal Affair standout?
Well, the Indian reader in me is super pleased reading about this unique romance between an Indian Royal and a British commoner :D. My indulgent pleasures aside, the author has a way with words, characters and the plot. A Royal Affair refreshingly stands out with small and delicious twists and surprises of its own whenever the reader expects a stereotype to hit them. It is like the book is alive, indulgent and knows your mind. Reading this soulful love story that brings the human side of every character so well is a pleasure at so many levels. The language is simple and easy while not failing to aptly describe the complex feelings of a romantic heart. Shall look forward for more such stories written by the author.

An engaging love story - a royal romance where an Indian prince struggles against odds to win his English girl.
He is forced more than once to fight against royal diktats and princely responsibilities. The story is superbly set in the present and reflects changed politics of present-day royals, but at the same time is steeped in history. Awesomely researched!
Vijay is a lovely prince, to die for, and it is no wonder Jane has a hard time resisting him.
The cover is beautiful - do pick up this book!

A modern day fairy tale with lots of twists and turns. An enjoyable read!

The author has written a love story with twists and turns. The story moves around a royal family. The descriptions of the setting are detailed and well written that I could actually picturise them. The duration of the story is exact 48 days and the story moves from London to Surrey to Bangalore, Mangalore, Sravanapura, Goa, London and Sravanapura taking the reader along.
The characters have been developed well and I was feeling their emotions along with the story. Jane’s relationship with her family and that between Vijay and Kritika has been beautifully depicted.
Looking forward to the second book of the series.

A Royal Affair is different because a British commoner falls in love with an Indian Prince whereas usually in most of the royal stories it is written other way round. Lots of ups and downs, interesting twists and fast-paced story plot makes this book an interesting read. I also loved the detailing of the royal palace, which shows that the author has researched which is commendable. This book is a must-read if you love royal romance with some hotness.

What do I say about this book?
There are so many things that I loved about it.
Jane is one reason, Vijay is another.
Other reasons?
1) The world of Sravanapura royals.
2) Second chances in love.
3) Simple and flowing narration.
4) Intrigue
5) A sweet love story
Do I need to add anything else?

What happens when a beautiful English lady and the attractive scion of the erstwhile royal family of Sravanapura fall in love? Having met at Oxford, Prince Vijay Dev Varman is deeply attracted to the blue-eyed beauty, Jane Worthington, who is an Indophile determined to savour everything about his fascinating country, India.
Jane is a free bird who abhors restrictions. Her natural curiosity and open nature create ripples in Vijay’s heart, but lies and deceit make them break up, not once, but many times over. In fact, misunderstandings rule their lives and they end up playing hide-and-seek with their emotions.
Jane gets a promotional transfer to India, where she has to lead a team and anchor a documentary on the ancient monuments constructed by the Hoysala kings in South India. She also has a mission to fulfil there, to find her grandfather Bill’s twin brother, Daniel, a soldier in the British Indian Army who had gone missing in 1947. Daniel, who had always been a hero in the family, had been seen in Bangalore and Grandpa Bill is determined to go to find him. However, his weak heart cannot take the momentous news and hence, he implores Jane to find Daniel and bring him back home.
On the other side, Vijay has now got engaged to Tejaswani, herself a royal as well as a bright management student, and the daughter of a successful businessman. It is purely a business venture as a pragmatic Vijay, who has had his heart broken, now believes that “Love, the most treacherous and ephemeral emotion, left in its wake only broken hearts and tears.”
However, fate has different ideas for them. Jane lands up in an impressive five-star hotel in Bangalore that is owned by Vijay. The two bump into each other and he promises to help her to find Daniel, agreeing to let bygones be bygones. The story moves on at an even pace as the two dig up yesteryear dancer and film actress called Rukmini Rai, and painstakingly try and put together the events that led to the mystery.
Finally, Jane goes back with Vijay to the grand Sravanapura palace, where she meets his charming sister, Kritika, as more of the pieces of the mystery are pieced together.
Who is the mystery woman whose portrait hangs in the royal gallery? How is Daniel connected to the Sravanapura family? How badly did the ensuing scandal affect relationships, and what role did Indrani Devi, Vijay’s grandmother, play in it?
Is Jane fated to be a scapegoat in the whole royal affair? Will she finally be able to fulfil her beloved grandfather’s final wish? Can she overcome the obstacles in the way of her love for Vijay? After all, handling heartbreak is never easy.
Preethi Venugopala spins a wondrous web of romance and suspense which holds the reader in thrall. She gives the reader an idea of the history of Sravanapura, a 500 year-old kingdom, which had proclaimed independence from the Vijayanagara Empire. Preethi also embellishes her story with various Indian details, like a Krishna Leela performance, the essence of an Indian biryani (in fact, food plays a significant role in the book!) and the excitement of wearing the perfect Indian outfit with all its adornments, all of which make her story come alive to its readers.

Totally Awesome!
I just loved the way the story unfolds. The relationship between Jane and Vijay was interesting and cute. I love second chance romances and enjoyed the royal touch to a beautiful love story.

I rarely read royal romances, preferring urban settings, but this one made me yearn for more. Romantic, lovely and sweet.

An heartwarming read!
This is the first work of Preethi Venugopala which I have read. I have been wanting to read her books, since the time I befriended her on Facebook. She has a unique writing style that keeps the reader engaged. Her descriptive narration is a sure-shot winner. You'd feel like a part of the Sravanapura Royals, when you read the book.
Characterizations were perfect. They had enough depth in them to linger in the minds of the readers for a long time. Jane is an unforgettable character, while Vijay is truly remarkable as a royal. I could visualize them easily.
Another aspect which I liked is the romance. There are some toe-curling scenes which would make you want more. Jane and Vijay's chemistry was perfectly rendered. I also loved the search for Daniel and the discoveries that Jane made along the way.
On the flip side, I felt that some scenes were melodramatic. Preethi could have toned them a little more. Also, the lengthy description of Hindu wedding rituals in the last chapter was a bit tedious for me to read, since I am an Hindu myself. It would surely appeal to International readers.
Overall, the story is well-paced with some really good twists and enough drama to keep the readers turning the pages. Preethi Venugopala is a promising author and I'd love to read more of her works. Highly recommended read!

A Royal Affair by Preethi Venugopala is a sweet tale about two persons who despite the twist of destiny, managed to get a happy ending. The thing I loved about the book is that it is a fairy tale with a modern touch but the author has managed to make it as realistic as it can be.
The story is about two people who fall in love and get united by overcoming the net of misunderstanding, insecurities and time.
When she was waiving the story, Preethi has done extensive studies and it is evident from the book. Every detail was accurate and everything is believable. This is a book you must never miss where the story is poignant, the flow is smooth and the characters are matured.
I would love a better insight to Daniel's story and plus some insights to Rudra Dev Barman's mind. But the show stealer was the central characters, Jane and Vijay. They are amazing and you fell in love with them the instant you meet them.
I would love a better cover design for the pic. The editing of the book is smooth and well done.

Movie in a book - Part 1
It's too good. Was mesmerised by the high and lows and twists and it felt like reading a "movie". This was my first book of Preethi's and am so engrossed that I'm in a hurry to read all her remaining books as soon as I can. Wishing this novel is made into a movie soon. Thanks to Amazon and Kindle, to keep prompting me to read this book. I usually read while on walks, and was too thrilled and engrossed to read it and felt as if it was real. You've got a fan for life, Preethi. Keep going.

A Royal Affair was such a fresh and breezy read. Loved it from the word go.

Read if you like mushy romance of the high society and royalty.
The prince of Sravanapura (some where along the western fringe of Karnataka) falls in love with a British commoner and he has fall out with her and comes back to India. The commoner comes to India on an assignment and bumps conveniently into the prince.
Will they rekindle their love and get together. Will the royalty allow them to wed even if they decide to get together.
Read the book to see how things unfold.
Maybe a decent read for the lovers of romance.
