Educators around the world are uniting behind the need for the profession to have access to more high-quality research and evidence to do their job more effectively. But every year thousands of research papers are published, some of which contradict each other. How can busy teachers know which research is worth investing time in reading and understanding? And how easily is that academic research translated into excellent practice in the classroom?
In this thorough, enlightening and comprehensive book, Carl Hendrick and Robin Macpherson ask 18 of today's leading educational thinkers to distill the most up-to-date research into effective classroom practice in 10 of the most important areas of teaching. The result is a fascinating manual that will benefit every single teacher in every single school, in all four corners of the globe.

I appreciated the structure of the book and the variety of topics covered. I have so many lines highlighted that I'm sure I'll go back to it every so often. It was just hard to read in one go for me.
Many of things discussed in this book have already been laid out in other books, but the approach is different. Each chapter is introduced and followed by two interviews with an expert in the field. Topics like assessment, behaviour, and motivation will be explored and the interviewees are well-known in the field: Daisy Christodoulou, Alex Quigley, Paul Kirschner, Pedro de Bruyckere, Tom Bennett, and more give their thoughts on each topic, making the stand out from the rest.
In 14 years of teaching, this is far and away the best education-related book I've read. It is filled with many expert voices, all sharing big ideas and the specifics to help teachers act on them. Hot trends are analysed, myths are busted. I would recommend this book to teachers in any subject or grade level.
This is an excellent guide to current research in education. Many of the chapters challenge orthodox thinking and provide clear signposts towards a more effective teaching and learning approach. Very good.
