Lights Out Super Box-set: EMP Survival in a Powerless World
Surviving the Collapse: In this first volume our protagonist Captain Kate Hillman, an airline pilot finds herself stranded in New York due to an engine failure. Soon after, the lights went out. The story chronicles not only Kate’s survival, but her efforts to save others. With her husband and prepper friend they faced a large group of escaped convicts who were determined to take everything and everyone they came across. To make matters more interesting and worse for Kate, the band of criminals was led by her ex who was serving a life sentence for killing police during a robbery. Excellent writing and wonderful narration made for an interesting and exciting listen.
Static: In this second volume our protagonist Wren Burton, an architect in Chicago finds herself in the midst of a terrorist initiated grid down situation after being involved in an auto accident with her two young children. Kate heads to the nearest hospital due to one of her children being injured in the accident. While recuperating in recovery terrorists assault the hospital and begin shooting at everything that moves. Wren and children make their way to ICU, which has a reinforced security door. Being an architect and having experience with hospital construction helps Wren make important decisions throughout the crisis. The story details an exciting cat and mouse hunt through the hospital, survivors looking for safety and an escape out while avoiding the terrorists. Escaping to a community which they believed safe becomes a whole new experience in terror for Wren and her family. Fast paced action and decent writing make the story fly by. A different narrator, one with more emotion, would be very helpful and greatly appreciated.

A page turner. Fiction.......or is it our future????

Well written and thought provoking. Would you be ready if the USA was attacked?. How long would your snow storm or hurricane provisions last? What if the lights never came back on? Where would you run to for long term shelter? Do you have survival skills? Have you taken your family camping? Do they know how to fish? Can they handle a gun or rifle? Do you know and are you prepared with a proper first aide kit that contains more than Band-Aids and aspirin? Do you have a plan of where your family will meet if disaster strikes and cell phones won't work? This will wake you up and start you thinking how to prepare for and survive the "What ifs".

I loved this story the first time I listened to it on audio, when I bought ‘The Pulse’ Box set.

I was more than surprised and disappointed when I bought this series believing I was purchasing a sequel only to discover it was exactly the same book.

While I do recommend the story, I don’t recommend purchasing more than one of the ‘box sets’ unless you purchase them from a place where you know you can get a refund if you find you’ve purchased the same book under a different name.

I found this cheeky in all honesty. Perhaps I missed a warning label or some fine print in the blurb before I purchased the two of them together. If so, then I apologise for leaving a low rating review.

These books follow several stories of people in various areas who are affected by an EMP and the slaughter of Americans on the streets of the East Coast and in Chicago. The stories surround strong resilient women who will go through hell and back to save their children and family. These are women who have already become successful despite having poor beginnings. Their inner strength and talents help them survive and face unmentionable odds successfully.

It was realistic approach to what could happen to the population after a nuclear event that release a large EMP strike, Reliable communication is need in our present use of electronic control. I wonder if the results to the characters in this story are possible in our current society. Being a bit of a nerd I read the story with an open mind and enjoyed it. Mr. Hunt writes stories I like so that inspired me to read the set of books.

Intense struggles of a woman and her 3kids

When terrorists attack Chicago Wren is not prepared. She is an emotional, impulsive woman but strong and brave. She manages to save herself and survive the new reality. Interesting story but I would have written the ending differently.

The first book was a new one for me. Enjoyed it. The second book I read before. I reread it too. Both were a good read.

Lesson learned: No matter the situation, always be prepared. Enjoy the books as much as I.

Great Read

I thoroughly enjoyed these stories. They had good pace and enough twists and turns to keep me reading, not wanting to put it down because the next good bit had to be just one sentence, one paragraph away.

EMP story

It’s hard to determine whether or not a free book is worth my time. This one is and it’s one that lingers as I roll it around in my head. The only reason for four stars is grammatical errors.
