Badger’ll turn up some day or other - he’s always turning up ... But you must not only take him as you find him, but when you find him.
Water Rat to Mole, The Wind in the Willows

From the excellent Encounters in the Wild series, Jim Crumley has written a follow up to his much earlier work, Badgers on the Highland Edge. His patience, instinct and knowledge in finding the right places to sit for hours quietly observing wildlife never cease to amaze me and his writing is just wonderful. The illustrations on the covers of these books are also wonderful. Yes, I know. A lot of waxing lyrical but I just love his writing and his books!

This is a tiny book, barely 60 pages, but it's beautiful both in production and in content. I learned about badgers and about the life of a nature writer and all in the most poetic way. Can't wait to get my hands on the other Encounters in the Wild series.
