Rate this book
A lonely road. A freak accident. Now they must try to stay alive until daylight ...

When Jack and Lucy hit a man in their car whilst driving through fog, they think it's just a random accident.

But when cars pull up and an armed manhunt begins, they know that they're running for their lives.

With a marriage that's on the rocks and a new baby who's driven a wedge between them, the couple are hanging on to their relationship by their fingertips.

But thrown into the deadly world of industrial espionage, they must fight to keep each other alive and rescue their child, whose life is in peril.

As Jack and Lucy hurtle towards the abyss they will find that the real enemy was among them all the time.

Please note that this book contains mild violence, bad language and sexual references.

Hi, I'm Paul Teague (writing as Paul J. Teague), the author of the Don't Tell Meg trilogy, the Morecambe Bay series of books as well as several other standalone psychological thrillers such as Dead of Night, So Many Lies and Now You See Her.

I'm a former broadcaster and journalist with the BBC, but I have also worked as a primary school teacher, a disc jockey, a shopkeeper, a waiter and a sales rep.

I've read thrillers all my life, starting with Enid Blyton's Famous Five series, then graduating to James Hadley Chase, Harlan Coben, Linwood Barclay and Mark Edwards.

If you love those authors then you’ll like my thrillers too.

I started off writing thrillers with the Don’t Tell Meg Trilogy which draws upon my 18 year career in radio journalism.

It’s fast-moving, high action and a bit racy in places, but it was great fun writing the story and I hope to re-visit the characters one day.

My standalones are ‘can’t-put-down’ stories where normal people find themselves in extradordinary situations.

I also write sci-fi and dystopian novels as Paul Teague and these stories are set in dark and sinister future-worlds.

I have written The Secret Bunker Trilogy, The Grid Trilogy and the stanadlone story, Phase 6.

Rating: 3.0/5.0

Genre:
Action + Thriller

Book Structure:
The book is around 153 pages divided into three parts with a total of 31 chapters. The narration is from a third person's perspective.

The first chapter was fantastic, spooky, and very atmospheric. The story starts with Jack and his wife Lucy driving a car through a woodland at night. Jack hits something and he will need to get out of the car to see what or who he hit in that darkness. What happens next is that the couple will face a bunch of people trying to shoot them! They will have to run and run throughout the story! From there until the end what we read are many action sequences in a fast-paced story.

The title of this book is Dead of Night. Both Amazon and Goodreads have this sentence added to it "The non-stop psychological thriller that will have you gasping for breath!". Terming this book a thriller is debatable because it falls more into the action genre, still, that can be OK. But terming it as a psychological thriller is totally not OK. This book or story is not a psychological thriller in any way. A psychological thriller is defined as a thriller narrative that emphasizes the unstable or delusional psychological states of its characters. This story totally lacks that. The main characters were stable and not delusional.

Dead of Night is not a bad story but being advertised for something it is not is totally not cool. I was debating between going with 2.5 or 3.0 stars but decided to go with 3.0 stars. Only read if you like stories with lots of action sequences.

Another random Kindle freebie. Sounded exciting. Turned out fairly exciting. It’s a thriller, paced and written like one. There’s some character development, but primarily it’s action driven, In fact it reads like one protracted action scene with a few asides to demonstrate the motivation. A struggling married couple hits someone with their car on the way back from a marathon and immediately finds themselves a being hunted by a group of dangerous strangers with accents. From there on it’s a high octane rapid pursuit with some fighting and shooting in between. A very straightforward story, speeds by much like the marathoning lead chracters, zoom zoom and it’s done. Nicely written for what it is, it’s my first experience reading the author and he has acquitted himself nicely. Plus it’s British, which is always an added bonus. Straight up thriller fans with enjoy this, personally I prefer more psychological kind of suspense, so this was very much like reading an action movie. Quick, entertaining and above average quality for a freebie.

Be prepared for a strong dose of Scottish influence in this fast paced thriller loaded with suspense and lots of action. This story is on the verge of unbelievable, but Teague keeps it real. Character development is good, and the scenes are painted vividly, many times in blood.

Dead Of NIGHT was very interesting, fast paced with good characters. To be a book written in another country with funny but with strong characters.A few twist and turns.

Wow!! What a book. So full of intrigue and action that doesn't stop. This is the kind of books I love reading. You stay on the edge of your seat waiting for what's going to happen next. This couple hit a man that runs into the road on a foggy night. Then the couple are hunted thru the country by some very nasty people. Great work, Paul Teague!

Dead of Night was definitely a good read. It moved quickly and was engrossing. I don't usually care for books referring to British terms but this time I successfully painted the necessary mental pictures and enjoyed it.

Loved it! Fast paced, well written, never a dull moment! I could not stop reading as every word lead to another breath holding moment! I’ve already downloaded “The Fatal Error” which reviews as good as this one! So awesome to find an author who’s novels keep me coming back for more.

I really enjoyed this book-the story was great, and very believable at this time, with all that is going on in the world. I liked the characters and found them believable also. I really found it interesting how they were all interconnected, but you didn't find out how until later in the story.

I have the box set that includes this story and it was an action-packed, fast-paced read.

Dark and foggy, something is hit, get out of the car and... Goodies and baddies and emotional baggage make this a great read.

Recommended.

I really enjoyed this book. It was suspenseful and I would recommend it. I did find a few errors missed in proofing but this did not take away from a great storyline.
