Tragedy strikes, and the Bat-family face the fight of their lives against an army of super-villains and waning public support. A new discovery reinforces Jack’s plot to jeopardize the Dark Knight’s standing in Gotham City, and Harley’s obsession with The Joker reaches a new height—and threatens to change the game for good!
After breaking into the industry at a young age, Sean Gordon Murphy made a name for himself in the world of indie comics before joining up with DC. In his tenure, he has worked on such titles as Batman/Scarecrow: Year One, Teen Titans, Hellblazer, Joe The Barbarian, and the critically acclaimed miniseries American Vampire: Survival Of The Fittest and The Wake with Scott Snyder. Murphy also wrote and illustrated the original graphic novel Offroad and the popular miniseries Punk Rock Jesus.
This is the comic book issue #3 of the event “Batman: White Knight”, which it will be a miniseries of 8 issues.

YOU DON’T WANT TO MISS THIS
He’s a riot
This quote is referring to The Joker, but…
…it could as well about Sean Murphy, the author (writer & illustrator) of this Holy great, Batman! miniseries, since Murphy is generating a LOT of glorious noise and securing a certain place between the legends whom done their own contributions to Batman greatest stories.
While I didn’t speak it out, in my review of the second issue, in this miniseries…
…I got kinda worried of the direction that it might take…
…since the awesome greatness of the first issue, seemed to be getting off the target on the climax of the second issue, true, the whole deal with Harley Quinn was been insanely glorious and smart,…
…well, what it looked like Jack Napier’s next move, is was kinda cliché and uninspired… …BUT…
…you have to trust in Jack Napier and his plans for Gotham City!
You have to trust in Sean Murphy and his plans for this miniseries!
Everything came to place in third issue once again!
I shouldn’t have any doubt about that!
This third issue is sooooo good and so full of surprises, since if you think that you can’t be surprised anymore in a Batman tale…
…think again!
This is an elseworlds’ story and Murphy is exploiting it to the maximum of its potential!
There’s nothing protecting Gotham from Batman. Except for us.
And that’s not all!
If you were wondering how good may be this “little cute miniseries”…
…I can assure you, right now, with only three issues out of the planned eight ones…
…that Batman: White Knight is already an instant classic!
Figuring in any honest Top10 of the best Batman stories ever in the near future.
Because, it’s not only a truly inspired story with smart dialogues, along of being a majestic tribute to the legacy of Batman’s lore , but also a bold narrative with the “balls” to do whatever it’s necessary to impact a brave statement.
If you are fan of Batman and you aren’t buying already this miniseries…
…you’ll regret that you had the chance to grasp comic books’ history in your very hands, when it was on the making, and you let it pass away, in front of you.
Sean Murphy may have painted Gotham with a believable "what if" scenario that challenges our heroification of the Batman, but White Knight, particularly issue three feels that the story and setting has slightly been stretched longer that it should have been.
Ultimately, issue #3's final rating will rely on the payoff that the readers hope to experience in the succeeding chapters. Murphy plants subplot seeds here and there like a crazy storytelling farmer. I am a bit wary that these subplots might not get fully resolved in the future (or diverges uncontrollably like in Punk Rock Jesus). But if Sean Murphy manages to pull it off, then this is for sure one helluva chaotic ride.
This series has me interested so far! I also like how the writer clearly didn't like Movie Harley and ditched her for the classic animated series Harley in a pretty clever way!
I'm starting to get what's going on now. It's an alternate timeline, or reality, whatever...of the DC universe. There are little things that are changed here and there. Sort of like The Dark Knight Returns is an alternate Batman universe. There's a lot of that in DC, it's hard for me to keep up. This isn't the best Batman story I've ever read, but it's still good. I'll keep reading. I love Sean Murphy's art.
This is a very interesting, well written, well drawn & compelling Batman story. If you like Batman, then you should be reading this, or at the very least don't miss it when it comes out in TPB. I get the feeling Sean Murphy has put a lot into this,...every word & every panel seems very polished & well thought out. I'm lovin' this!
2,5/5. Well this series just go downward for me... What should have been a very emotional issue just wasn't. The emotion didn't pass on to me while reading. The plot don't evolve fast enough and just seem more and more like an over hype series and that I should have listen to my first impression and pass on it!
I love how this has interpreted the Batman Mythos. Jason coming before Dick is a little odd, but I like how it’s changed the relationships in the Batfamily. This is such a cool title.
Batman: White Knight #3 by Sean Gordon Murphy cements the simple fact that this may be the best Batman story going right now. Definitely the best Joker story happening right now!
"...He's a liar. Taking too many of those pills. Damn drug addict. Destroying the Joker legacy. And she's enabling him. Anything for her desperate romance. She's just another prison. Holding him back, thinking he won't break loose. But the Joker's more than just a man. He's a riot..."
Hell hath come to Gotham and the Joker's in charge. Only it isn't the Joker, not really, it's Jack Napier and the original Harley Quinn, along with the mind control of the Mad Hatter and little pieces of Clayface, they have taken control of every criminal in Gotham. It is too much for the Batman and this time, Gotham is on the Joker's side.
Dealing with a family tragedy, Batman, Nightwing and Batgirl are in no shape to take them all on. But help is coming, from a most unexpected source.
Seriously, if you have not picked this comic up yet than you are missing out. Sean Murphy has nailed this one. A broken Bat. A Joker with aspirations of being Lex Luthor. A Gotham torn asunder and a Bat Family falling apart. Plus every criminal there is and Harley times two.
In my estimation- Sean Gordon Murphy has (by far away) the best looking Gotham City in comics. His angles are sharp and designs are pure Gothic goodness- coupled with the horror soaked colors by Matt Hollingsworth and you got yourself an art deco nightmare that should have been the template for ALL Gotham architecture in comics. (But i digress).
Still great as ever. Though it is a little... *sigh* 😬 to see the gang members beaten up by the Joker in this issue are exclusively black people. I get what's trying to be gotten across here; but when your entire cast up till this point has been all white people, ya know, it just looks... ehhh-
Okay, I'm not talking about race. Important discussions like that should be made by someone who isn't me. It was just something that made me eyebrows rise is all.
Some pretty serious shit occurs in this issue. And it's already shaping up to be an escalated romp of terror. I will continue these adventures with as much swagger as is allowed.

This is such a fantastic title. Murphy's understanding of character paints a brutally honest portrait of the type of man who dresses as a bat, scares criminals and adopts children into his war on crime. Was a little thrown for a moment by Jason coming before Dick, but I love how it has not just intensified the Bat-Man but also his relationship with his most famous ward.
Can Sean Murphy be given an extension on this run? Say... 100... 200 more issues?!
This series has been interesting so far, I like the conset and there's been a lot of great little moments, but for every one of those there's been one that's made me go "Hmm, not sure about that.". For example, the way this issue handles Alfred's death is the best way I've ever seen it done but having Gordon not know about the Batman relief fund seemed so odd to me that I'm just not sure if I buy the thing as a plot element.
4 stars. My least favorite issue so far but that's only because the death of Alfred was just so devoid of any type of emotional weight which was strange. Other than that this was good and I'm still very much enjoying the hell out of this series and its plot.
"Pero una vez que haces a un lado las capas y a todos los super criminales, te das cuenta de que es solo otra ciudad que funciona con simple y mundanamente desagradable papeleo"
Alfred dies, Harley Quinn No. 2 becomes "Neo Joker" and Batman possibly becoming more dangerous? Sean Murphy, you're crafting something special here...

The continuation of Murphy’s amazing Batman series. This was the issue where shit went BAD for Batman. I understand why Bruce Wayne is feeling as uneasy as he is but boy is he a dick in this story. Dick Grayson and Barbra Gordon share pretty top notch scenes together and Jack Napier, Harley Quinn, Duke, all meeting each other was also interesting. I do wish we could have seen what the hell happened to Mr. Freeze. A lot of cool scenes for sure but not much made me have a nerd-gasm (maybe except for the Neo Joker) like the last 2 issues and the biggest story element was rushed over pretty fast. Once again the art by Murphy is stunning and I can’t think of another artist for this series. (C+)
