Well, the first 60% of it wasn’t special, like the previous installment, just some routines! The last 40% was interesting! But I think the first book and this one could have been one book! I really like the cover. I don’t know why but somehow I love the covers in this series!
In this one, Rome has some issues with her ex and she finds out about Calloway’s secret and the thing Calloway does (or I should say sacrifices) was a surprise for me. I should say the writing is really good and that’s the thing makes me keep reading this series! I liked both characters. Calloway is a control freak and Rome doesn’t like to be bossed around! Ha!
The story is told in dual POV, 1st person. It’s the second installment in "obsidian" series and it should be read in order. I enjoyed it, hope you like it as well!

The bad boy as Prince Charming
You can’t help but fall for Cal. As much as he knows he is a dark as heck bad boy at heart, he tries to be what Rome needs because he can’t see himself with any woman but her. You gotta love that. The book has some humor too, which is great!

Sigo con la saga Obsidiana, me suscribí en uno de los muchos anuncios que había por las redes pidiendo gente para reseñar y hace poco recibí por correo electrónico por parte de la editorial los libros de esta serie. Diamante negro es la segunda entrega de la serie Obsidiana de la autora Victoria, Quinn, a los que seguirán Promesa negra y Eternidad negra.
La reseña va a ser cortita, pues el libro lo es, y tampoco quiero destriparos lo que ocurre.
Continuamos con la historia de Rome y Calloway donde lo dejamos. Después de la agresión que Rome sufrió en su casa, por fin se ha mudado con Christopher. Su relación con Calloway va viento en popa, afianzándose cada vez más. Por su parte Calloway sigue sin querer confiarle a Rome la parte de su vida que aún mantiene oculta. Aunque cada vez se abre más con Rome hasta el punto de plantearse confiarle su estilo de vida, tiene miedo de que al hacerlo pueda perderla. Por otra parte, Rome sigue siendo acosada por su exnovio Hank, por lo que tendrá que replantearse su futuro laboral para estar segura y evitar el acoso al que éste la está sometiendo. Por su parte Calloway se verá en la encrucijada de tener que elegir entre su estilo de vida o la mujer sin la que ya no puede vivir.
Esta segunda parte me ha gustado mucho más que la primera, el ritmo de la narración y las situaciones que ocurren durante ella te ayudan a mantener el interés, obviamente, al igual que el primero, es un libro erótico, por lo que las escenas sexuales son abundantes, y en esta segunda parte suben de intensidad acercando a la protagonista a lo que Calloway espera de ella. El final, aunque no ha sido muy intenso sí ligeramente impactante, por lo que me voy a poner ya a leer Promesa negra para saber como se desarrolla la historia de esta pareja.

Comme déjà indiqué dans mon avis précédent, il n'existe quasiment aucune histoire. Je n'aime pas du tout les personnages sauf peut-être Christopher qui est au moins honnête dans tout ce qu'il fait. Calloway ne cesse pas d'insister sur ses préférences et il s'en fout des sentiments des Rome.
J'espérais qu'il y aurait plus de développement des caractères mais hélas ! cela n'a pas été le cas. J'ai compris que les péripéties dans cette partie étaient identiques à celles de la première partie.
J'ai dit que je lirai la série pour des raisons linguistiques mais cette deuxième partie m'empêche de continuer. Rien n'a plus de sens et je suis tellement embêtée que je levais les yeux au ciel plus de 10 fois par chapitre.
Ce livre ne m'a pas plu du tout. Or, je voulais tellement lui donner une chance...

This series just keeps heating up! Book two didn't disappoint in the slightest - the entire book keep you on edge and just made you anxious for more and crushed when the page appeared. We rejoin Cal and Rome and while our couple are still going strong secrets are still being kept on both sides that can destroy the foundation of trust and feelings that have grown between the pair. It hasn't been easy for Rome to give up control and she doesn't always do as she is told leading to many a confrontations between her and Cal, but she is realizing that her heart is with Cal and that he is worth the risk. But can she tell him all the tragic stories of her past and make herself truly vulnerable? Cal is hiding his true nature from Rome terrified that she will run if he springs it on her too soon. He is slowly conditioning her to accept it, but with feeling growing and more time passing his Windows of opportunities are quickly closing. When their respective secrets come to light can their fragile relationship hope to survive?

So first of all, the last like three chapters of the book are the best. Like WOAH, hold on. And despite that I actually give this roughly a 2.5 ONLY because the book is quite literally repetitive, word for word. Also the fact that it was irritating? The characters just kept going in circles about the same thing over and over and OVER. Im glad it made me feel something at least, but I dunno if it was good. Also after an analysis of the characters, they have some pretty awful underlying qualities that should be brought up, but weren't. Maybe it came across wrong to me. It felt like the plot wasn't really progressing and really didn't until the end. These books could have easily been one big book.

Buon pomeriggio, lettrici del blog! Ho appena finito di leggere il secondo volume della serie Ossidiana di Victoria Quinn, “Diamante Nero”.
Come vi ho anticipato nella precedente recensione, questa serie, pur con le dovute differenze, ricalca un po' la tanta amata/odiata “50 Sfumature”.
In questo secondo volume ritroviamo Calloway e Rome alle prese con il loro passionale rapporto e con la mai sopita voglia di Calloway di fare di Rome la sua schiava. Nella prima parte non troviamo grosse novità rispetto a ciò che abbiamo letto, eccetto il fatto che Rome chiude la sua attività benefica e va a lavorare nella Fondazione di Calloway, diventando ancora di più un'ossessione per lui.
La seconda parte del libro è invece più interessante, perché oltre a conoscere la madre di Calloway e Jackson, avremo Rome alle prese col suo ex violento.
Come la prenderà Calloway? E soprattutto, come avverrà l'incontro tra Rome e la sua potenziale suocera? Ecco, questo aspetto del libro, senza svelarvi troppo, posso dirvi che mi ha intenerita, sia per la situazione di Theresa che per la particolarità dell'incontro e quello che ne consegue...
Nella seconda parte avremo modo di vedere la reazione di Rome alla scoperta di cosa Calloway fa nelle ore notturne e dell'esistenza del Ruin, ma non è finita qui! Come è prevedibile Rome non reagirà bene e Calloway, che non vuole perderla, deve escogitare qualcosa o decidere cosa fare della sua vita. Vincerà la sua parte oscura o il sentimento irrefrenabile che prova per Rome?
Per Rome questa scoperta è un fulmine a ciel sereno: lei è ormai innamorata di quell'uomo a cui ha dato corpo e cuore, l'uomo che sa essere carismatico e forte che ora non riconosce più, di cui non comprende la natura nascosta scaturita dal passato che Calloway ha vissuto anche per colpa del padre. Basterà l'amore che prova a tenerla legata a lui o il suo essere una persona “ordinaria” con dei sogni normali come sposarsi e avere dei figli saranno motivo di rottura definitiva? A questo si aggiunge il fatto che Rome ha avuto una relazione traumatica con il suo ex,!Hank, ecco anche perché non è disposta a vivere un rapporto di coppia così particolare.
Devo dire che nonostante il libro non sia proprio originalissimo per via della trama, la lettura è scorrevole e lo stile non è affatto male. Ho una vaga idea su come si svolgerà il terzo libro, quindi mi accingo a leggerlo con curiosità per vedere se ho ragione.
I personaggi sono ben delineati. Rome è un bel personaggio, devo dire, così come tutto sommato ho simpatia anche per suo fratello Christopher; mi aspettavo una qualche caratteristica più accattivante in Calloway, che invece ricalca il classico uomo sicuro di sé, ricco e intraprendente. Il messaggio che questo libro mi ha trasmesso è: si può modificare la propria natura in virtù di un sentimento mai provato? Io non credo sia proprio così facile, ma allo stesso tempo, se qualcosa di forte nasce, certamente ci si mette in discussione e ci si chiede cosa si è disposti a perdere. Calloway deve fare proprio questo, capire se Rome è più importante della vita che ha condotto finora, delle proprie pulsioni e desideri. Io credo che anche Rome sarà costretta, suo malgrado, a mettere in discussione qualcosa. Vedremo.
Se queste particolari atmosfere sensuali sono nelle vostre corde, questo secondo libro vi piacerà. Nel complesso non mi ha rapita, tuttavia è una discreta lettura per trascorrere qualche ora di relax.

Cal is now in deep with Rome. They have now been together for about 5 months and things appear to be going just fine. Only one problem. Rome is still not his sub and he has not told her about the club.
Liars always make the same mistake. I kept screaming at Cal that he better come clean before Rome finds out. Yep! You know full disclosure is coming. Through all of this, you will discover the real Cal under that hard armor he wears to protect himself. Do not make him angry, though!
Hank will not go away and he is getting seriously violent. I really felt like I needed a Glock and I would take care of him. The jerk!
But more is coming! I am going to start the next book as soon as possible. I cannot put this book down!

This is a followup on my previous review for the first book. I'm mentioning this because she just adds even more to the stunted characters' ridiculous expectations and sets of dreamy self-sacrificial values vs reality (literally, the character starves herself and is hailed for becoming an anorexic).
Very touchy feely with stunted shallow character development and ridiculous premises:
Multi million dollar businesses that only give money to the poor?
Ridiculous salaries that are the same exact number for all employees?
Ooohing and aahhhing over a guy who "pulls out all the cash in his wallet to give to someone he doesn't know"? He's teaching that homeless man to stay where he is, splurge in booze and drugs, instead of bettering himself.
This author's head is way in the clouds, has obviously failed basic accounting and economics.

¡Esta serie simplemente es caliente! Este segundo libro no decepciona en absoluto, una mezcla perfecta de erotismo y pasión, te mantiene al borde y te pone ansiosa por más. La relación entre Rome y Cal toma intensidad, pero algunos secretos salen a la luz y otros se siguen manteniendo, lo cual hace caer a grandes pasos la confianza y los sentimientos que han crecido entre ellos. Ahora solo nos queda esperar al siguiente libro para saber que desarrolló seguirá su ahora no-si relación? ¿La confianza será entregada nuevamente?

This is the second book in the series. It picks up right where the first left off. There was a bit more action in this book, but I’m ready for something major to happen. I want a bit of angst.
Oh but one thing that annoyed me... Rome’s brother Christian... is now Christopher. How does something that huge get through the editors? When one of the characters names just changes from one book to the next?

This was Book 2 in the Obsidian saga.
The book really gave a lot of history about Rome's ex-boyfriend, Hank, and of informtion about why Rome doesn't want to "submit" to Calloway. After learning the backstory, you realize how strong Rome is. She's not a girl to be messed with.
I really am glad that a strong, female finally appears in this style of books. Rome can hold her own. She doesn't want a man to take care of her or rely on one. She's a strong, independent woman sorta "I am woman, hear me roar".
Calloway struggles with his dark side and what he is developing for Rome. He's not willing to change who is and Rome isn't going to back down from what she wants. So, a compromise is in order.
I've already purchased book 3 (becuase I gotta find out the rest of the story).

The series continues and the angst and passion just got better and better. Can Calloway give up being a Dom? Can Rome let go of her past to become his submissive? The chemistry between the two makes the pages fly and I could not put this book down. They both do not realize that they are actually changing each other and making a future. I cannot wait to read more in this series.

Victory for Victoria
This is the third book of Victoria Quinn's I've read. Let me just say that she doesn't disappoint and brings the fire each and every book. I have ZERO clue how this will end but, knowing her writing prowess, it's going to be nothing short of amazing.

Calloway is an insecure asshole. He waited 6 months to tell Rome about RUIN and he never told her. Rome found out from her own brother after she told Calloway that she loved him. Wow what a mess.

Por dónde empiezo??? Será por la parte en donde digo que no me gusta el sado?
Me encanta un hombre fuerte, dominante pero no que se excite golpeando y haciendo llorar a su pareja, haciéndola sentir como un objeto...definitivamente no es lo mío PERO debo decir que los primeros 2 libros me los devoré uno tras otro debido a la personalidad de la protagonista, una mujer fuerte, independiente, con carácter y que no se deja dar ordenes por nadie...todo muy bien hasta ahí.
No dormí porque estaba picadísima con la historia pero ya por ahí del tercer libro me empecé a cansar.
La autora mete demasiado, DEMASIADO sexo y usaba las mismas frases una y otra vez que ya cansaba así que me tuve que adelantar muchas partes. Siento que con 3 libros hubiera estado excelente.
Me gustó mucho que está narrado por los dos protagonistas y pude identificarme con ellos, con su pasado y con todo lo que estaban viviendo, definitivamente un tema de pareja en el cuál no se le encontraba salida, uno sado queriendo una sumisa y una sumisa que no se dejaba controlar... eso mismo hizo que mi morbo siguiera leyendo para saber el desenlace.
El hermano de Calloway nunca me llegó a gustar y la amiga de Rome que sale al principio nunca más vuelve a aparecer. Fueron unos personajes muy solitarios, sin un solo amigo :( ... Nada creíble que ella hubiera estudiado en Harvard con ese pasado pero bueno, yo creo que la autora ya estaba cansada cuando se le ocurrió eso.
En fin, le doy 3.5 estrellas solo porque los primeros dos libros me encantaron.
Gracias Diana Di por haberlos recomendado...no me arrepiento ya que me los devoré en 3 días y aunque no me gustó del todo sí la disfruté mucho al principio.

Me gustó mucho que está narrado por los dos protagonistas y pude identificarme con ellos, con su pasado y con todo lo que estaban viviendo, definitivamente un tema de pareja en el cuál no se le encontraba salida, uno sado queriendo una sumisa y una sumisa que no se dejaba controlar... eso mismo hizo que mi morbo siguiera leyendo para saber el desenlace.
El hermano de Calloway nunca me llegó a gustar y la amiga de Rome que sale al principio nunca más vuelve a aparecer. Fueron unos personajes muy solitarios, sin un solo amigo :( ... Nada creíble que ella hubiera estudiado en Harvard con ese pasado pero bueno, yo creo que la autora ya estaba cansada cuando se le ocurrió eso.
En fin, le doy 3.5 estrellas solo porque los primeros dos libros me encantaron.
Gracias Diana Di por haberlos recomendado...no me arrepiento ya que me los devoré en 3 días y aunque no me gustó del todo sí la disfruté mucho al principio.

Aveva gli occhi iniettati di sangue, e le sue mani avevano un disperato bisogno di strangolare Hank finché non avesse smesso di respirare. Piluccai il mio cibo, anch’io non molto affamata. Desiderai che Christopher non avesse assistito a ciò che era successo nel mio ufficio. Era sempre allegro e spiritoso, ma aveva un serio problema caratteriale che gli derivava dall’infanzia. Quando era agitato, prendeva un sacco di decisioni sciocche—ad esempio fare a cazzotti con la gente. Anche se ero convinta che Hank si meritasse un sacco di legnate, avrebbe potuto causare parecchi danni a Christopher se avesse voluto. Riprendiamo la storia esattamente dove l’avevamo lasciata; dopo l’aggressione subita nel primo libro, Rome è andata a vivere nell’appartamento del fratello Christopher, e la sua relazione con Calloway procede in modo più che normale. I due si frequentano assiduamente e il sesso fra loro è strepitoso. Ma mentre Rome comincia ad illudersi che il giovane possa un giorno dimenticare il suo proposito di non avere mai una relazione stabile, per Calloway il desiderio di fare della ragazza la sua schiava è un ossessione che non lo abbandona mai.
È vero che per lei prova sentimenti che non ha mai sentito per nessuna delle donne che hanno fatto parte della sua vita, ma il suo passato non gli permette neppure di contemplare matrimonio, felicità e staccionate bianche. Rome, d’altro canto, ha anche lei dei segreti che non intende rivelare. Dal suo passato è riemerso un uomo che le ha fatto del male, ma non intende dirlo a Calloway, ne chiedere il suo aiuto, convinta di poter riuscire a gestirlo da sola. Questo si rivelerà un compito superiore alle sue forze e, mentre parte della sua vita viene sconvolta, anche i segreti di Calloway verranno alla luce in maniera inaspettata.
Per Rome è il crollo di ogni illusione, quell’uomo che sembrava apparire fantastico, improvvisamente è come uno sconosciuto, a nulla valgono le spiegazioni che il giovane tenta di darle. Lei non accetterà mai un rapporto di questo tipo a prescindere da quanto lo ami. Ora è Calloway che deve decidere cosa sia più importate per lui.
In questo secondo capitolo, veniamo a conoscenza di cose importanti sui vari personaggi, diamo un’occhiata agli oscuri segreti che Calloway custodisce, cose di cui neppure suo fratello è al corrente. Un passato in cui la figura di un padre sadico e crudele ha reso orribile la sua infanzia, ma questo non scusa la menzogna con cui vive il suo rapporto con Rome e me lo ha fatto amare meno, ogni suo gesto è fatto con uno scopo preciso: portare la ragazza ad accettare qualcosa che non è nella sua indole. E nel mentre questo accade, scopriamo anche perché Rome è invece così risoluta a non permettere mai a nessuno di avere il potere di comandarla.
Nel suo passato si è fidata di qualcuno che l’ha tradita nel modo peggiore e ha tentato di sottometterla, ci è già passata una volta e non permetterà che accada ancora. A poco a poco i ritratti dei personaggi diventano più vividi ed intriganti, e non solo quelli dei protagonisti, anche quello di Hank che conosciamo solo superficialmente, ma che penso avrà un grosso impatto sul prossimo libro, che si prospetta carico di suspense.
E non voglio dimenticarmi di Christopher e di Jackson, il fratello di Calloway che finora si è rivelato poco simpatico, sempre pronto a minare con le sue parole il rapporto fra Calloway e Rome. Mentre l’algida Isabella non sembra disposta a rinunciare a Calloway.
L’autrice è riuscita a creare una palpabile corrente di sensualità fra i protagonisti, le scene di sesso pur se in numero forse eccessivo sono davvero ben scritte, la scrittura è fluida e scorrevole, tanto che ho letto questo libro in poco più di quattro ore; Però anche se il finale mi ha sorpreso, non posso tacere alcune cose che mi impediscono di dare il massimo voto.
Parti della trama riportano immediatamente la mente ad altre serie famose, compreso l’uomo pericoloso ossessionato da Rome, gli incubi di Calloway e il suo assoluto bisogno di controllo, questo ha reso la lettura, pur se molto piacevole, non proprio originale; è un peccato perché i personaggi sono belli, specie la fortissima Rome. Spero davvero che i prossimi due libri abbiano quel guizzo di unicità che al momento non vedo; questa farebbe la differenza fra un buon libro per passare un gradevole pomeriggio, ed uno davvero bello che si ricorda nel tempo.

Recensione:
Appena finito il primo romanzo mi sono tuffata su questo curiosa di sapere come si sarebbe evoluta la storia di Vaniglia e Sexy alias Rome e Cal due filantropi, due anime spezzate da mamma vita, due anime che si riconoscono che vorrebbero fondersi ma appartengono a due mondi diversi vaniglia e kinky.
Calloway è un filantropo di giorno, proprietario e Dominatore di uno dei più grandi club bdsm della sua città, per lui comandare è un esigenza fisica e psicologica, dopo anni in cui era in balia del dolore e della paura ha trovato nel bdsm sfogo è forza, attraverso il controllo delle sue sottomesse diventa artefice e non colui che subisce gli eventi, da a chi appartiene al suo mondo ciò che vuole dolore e regole in cambio riceve obbedienza. Per lui le donne sono quasi animaletti domestici, attraverso a queste relazioni controllate Non deve mettere in discussione se stesso ne mettere in pericolo il suo cuore. Finché conosce Rome.

Rome è una sopravvissuta , ha vissuto per la stada, conosce la sofferenza, la privazione, la cattiveria dell'animo umano, più volte nella vita hanno cercato di piegarla senza mai riuscirci, è una donna forte che lotta per i suoi principi, che ama in tutte le sfaccettature e da tutto di sé a chi ama, è una ragazza piena di vita che conosce l'uomo nero ma che preferisce vedere il buono nelle persone. Causa uno "scontro" in un bar incontra Cal.
Le loro strade si incrociano, i loro animi si riconoscono ma i loro mondi sono opposti lei vorrebbe amori cuori fiori, una staccionata bianca figli, lui vuole una schiava, una donna che gli si sottommessa e che gli obbedisca. Mondi che cozzano, aspettative diverse, Rome conosce gli aspetti di Cal che lui le mostra ma non sa del suo lato oscuro. Sarà abbastanza forte il sentimento nascente fra loro per poter sopravvivere o si spezzerà in mille pezzi quando la verità emergerà?
Amare è accettare incondizionatamente chi ami, ma se chi ami è così distante da chi sei e da quello che vuoi qual è la soluzione? Il compromesso? Chi cede, ma si può cedere quando è la nostra natura essere ciò che porta destabilita?
È un libro erotico, adatto a un solo pubblico adulto che utilizza il dirty talking, non è violento ma un pò grezzo e molto piccante un gradino sopra al classico erotico, un libro che oltre al sesso nasconde molti scheletri, verità celate e drammi psicologici. Adrenalina ed eros.

The story continues – lulling us into a false sense of security with this couple, knowing full well that there are so many secrets that each is hiding that it’ll all combust.
Calloway, true to his nature wants nothing more than to be able to take care of Rome. To cherish her and enjoy her and to protect her. She wants that but not in the way that he’s thinking, because he’s got this dark side that he still can’t let her know about. The story here takes us on the journey where we see them go to new lengths in how they feel about each other, and then hit a wall.
Rome still has the same challenges that she faced in the first book. She’s trying to dig herself out of debt, trying to forge her own path and name in the industry and try to stay safe. All while being true to herself and Christopher. when her stalker comes knocking again, and her apartment is broken into, well Calloway has no choice but to make changes for her. Convincing Christopher to move so that she can move with him, and offering her a job that’s leaps better than what she had before.
Their chemistry and intensity don’t fade at all here. We see that they are closer than ever, they have a connection that most dream about, and theyre so hot that it’s combustable. Just when we think that things are going to be amazing, someone learns something they shouldn’t, and Calloway’s secrets are out.
It’s a struggle for these two for the back half of the book, and so much sadness and hurt are the theme for here on out. There’s no compromise that they can make that will put things back together, and there’s honestly no way that they can find their way back to one another without giving up too much in exchange. We’re left off at a point where decisions are made, and they aren’t good ones, and we don’t know what that means for the future. So, that means i have to dive back in now to the third book to see where we’re going.

I liked how the story started, I enjoy how Rome and Christopher banter with each other back and forth. We got to learn more about Hank and Rome's past, she is so strong but you can tell this guy scares her. I like that her and Cal are working together, it is just another step in their relationship. I could not understand why Cal did not ban Isabella from Ruin when she called Rome a whore and would not stop coming after him. The sex between Cal and Rome was hot as ever but I kept thinking what a mistake Cal was making not telling her the truth about what he was hoping for in regards to their sex life and relationship and about who he really was and sure enough it caught up to him and she tells him "You had ulterior motives throughout this entire relationship. I don't exactly trust anything you say right now". I did not like that at first he is fine with trying new things with her slowly, he even says "she was better than any submissive I'd ever had" but then he keeps saying all he wants is her to be his sub, he does not want marriage or kids with her, he can only do the "vanilla" thing for so long, then why pursue her after they broke up when she found out he owned Ruin? Then Hank appears again and I am on the edge of my seat, he is so violent but once again she just barely escapes. I love how Cal gets so angry about Hank and how he goes after Rome, and won't take no for an answer about her coming to stay with him where he can protect her. Now later in the story I get so angry with Rome because she won't budge an inch, she won't even try meeting him in the middle when it comes to him wanting to dominate her time to time. She could have the best of both worlds but she won't listen. Then he makes a sacrifice for their relationship and I know that in the next book there is going to be ramifications of this choice.

Obsessed with the Obsidian Series! This was my first experience with Victoria Quinn's books and I wasn't disappointed. I was intrigued from the beginning and she kept me on the hook that I purchased the remaining 3 audiobooks in the series and binge listened. This was also my first experience with male narrator Michael Ferraiuolo and enjoyed his performance so much that I will continue to look for his work when looking for new purchases. Lia Langola did another excellent job with her performance, though I would have enjoyed the audiobooks even more if they were in duet style. The male narrator did so much performing of the females voice when doing an entire male POV chapter that I missed the female performers voice and felt she didn't get very much airtime. It did get a little confusing at times when they switched from male performer to female performer that performed the opposite sexes voices. I go so used to one performer talking in a certain style for the other sexes character, that when the opposite sexes narrating performer took over, I had to get back into the frame of mind to their performance style. But that's my only complaint, and it's not a huge one. I would LOVE if the producers took this into consideration and had the two narrators redo the recording in duet style and re-release the series. I think it could help boost the sales as this narrating style is becoming the preferred method to listen to dual POV audiobooks by avid listeners who spend lots of money purchasing hundreds to thousands of audiobooks a year, myself included (568 purchased so far this year).
