In the second book of the McBride trilogy, David enters the story having committed an egregious act that transgresses both moral and civil law. Left with no semblance of a normal life—his family, freedom, and humanity stripped away—he resigns to accept his fate and face whatever punishment is forthcoming. But, David McBride soon finds himself caught between opposing forces—a corporate spy representing a prominent Russian biotech firm, and a man trying to save his daughter’s life—who are battling for control of the organ fabrication technologies that are vital to the growth of human organs in the laboratory.
I’m a former heart surgeon turned fiction writer. I write what can be described as medical mysteries, medical thrillers or novels of medical suspense, but I prefer to think of them as novels of surgical suspense.
What is surgical suspense? Surgeons, surgical diseases and the operating room are inherently dramatic. As a former surgeon, I’ve experienced this drama first hand and thought it would make for good fiction. My surgery training took me from the "knife and gun club" of LSU Medical Center in Shreveport, Louisiana, to the famed Bellevue Hospital in Midtown Manhattan. My education as a writer includes an MFA in creative writing where I was mentored by New York Times bestselling author Dennis Lehane, among other accomplished faculty.
I know a lot about medicine and surgery, I know a lot about writing and storytelling, and I believe that combining this vast and unusual right-brain/left-brain experience will make for interesting reading and discussion, so please visit often.
THE ORGAN TAKERS⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️THE ORGAN GROWERS⭐️⭐️⭐️.75(B+) by Richard Van Anderson. I decided to review this duology together because I finished listening to both before I got the chance to review it. I really liked these books and the main character. I didn’t realize how often I listen to books that have a female main character!! These both follow the life a young doctor, and this poor guy!!! There is ALOT of medical lingo in both of these books, so be prepared. The good thing is it doesn’t detract from the story. If you don’t understand it, it won’t affect your ability to understand what is going on in the story. I am a nurse and it is definitely above my pay grade. Now to give the narrator his due...great job #joelrichards. This is the first book from him that I have listened to. Excellent narrator and 🙌🏼 on the Russian accents!! @playstermedia #richardvananderson #joelrichards #theorgangrowers #theorgantakers #playsteraudiobook
I thoroughly enjoyed this sequel to The Organ Takers. The writing is just as good as the first book and it has been professionally edited. I love a digital book without grammatical errors! One of the biggest things, for me, is that any science presented be accurate and Dr. Van Anderson has obviously done his homework. The field of bio-engineering is immensely complex yet Dr. Van Anderson has deftly woven it into his work without the brain fracturing academia that can kill a good story. The characters are well developed and the plot moves smoothly. I am eagerly awaiting the release of the third novel in this series :)
Well done! So often book two is not always better than the last in a series. This one delivered. Plenty of action and couldn't put it down! David McBride begins to make amends. The book could've ended here, but what fun would that be? Great read!! I can't wait for the last book. What will happen next, what life will he choose? What will he do?
This book held my total attention cover to cover. While many of the things David does can be interpreted as "bad" in the end he does the right thing by sharing the knowledge with those who could help others in stead of allowing a small group of greedy people play God and get rich
This book was so thrilling and was a great addition to the first. There's so much action and the characters were both sympathetic and believable. Even the bad guys. I'd recommend this book anyone with an interest in medicine, specifically surgery, and a love of reading suspenseful thrillers.
I was a little upset that the first book didn't have an ending, but I wanted to find out what happened so I read the second book and I wasn't disappointed. This was some real good reading. I would recommend this book to any one that likes medical sixpence.
Dr. Van Anderson does it again! This second book had a larger dash of spy-thriller mixed in with his delightful medical (surgical) suspense! I highly recommend this series to anyone that loves thrillers and has an interest in the biomedical sciences.
This is a really good sequel, but also stands alone as a one off. The Kindle prices for both books are great value at the moment so if you enjoy a fast paced action story give them a go.
Fascinating story line. A good follow on to the first book of the series. Be prepared to not put it down. Looking forward to the last book in the trilogy.
