Arlyn: Adjutant & Apostle

Rate this book
This second book of Arlyn the Deliverer picks up where the first part of her first book left off...in a small cabin in Ciaicka. The child Harmen rescued from the auction block has grown into a young woman with her own mind and a determination that could only come from the gods. Trained in the fighting methods of the Piran's Monks, she's a handful in many ways. Harmen is the believer, the Apostle upholding Piran as his revered goddess. His belief is tested as Piran proves just how underhanded she can be. In order to keep Arlyn, he must let her go. They strike a bargain and she is off on her own adventures for the first time in her life. Forced to be the Deliverer, Arlyn may be an Adjutant who works for those who cannot help themselves, but she is no Apostle of Piran. Her disdain for the deceitful goddess is certainly no secret. Still recovering from the loss of her love Jacek, Arlyn ventures out into the treacherous world that is Gethis. She battles pirates, men who would possess her, and the mysterious and insidious "dizzy disease" Mal de Debarquement, which the locals in Northern Mida call "the disembarking disease." How is she supposed to fight for those who cannot protect themselves when she can barely walk?

I am a real sadomasochist with over 33 years of personal experience in BDSM and d/s-m/s relationships.

Now that my Kingdom Key series is complete, I am focusing on more books in the Gethis series. I have numerous books lined up for the next five years, plus whatever else my brain conjures up.

I will be continuing the Culpation League as well. I have at least two or three in mind, one of which corresponds to the last Kingdom Key book and the Peeper saga of my Gethis series.

I don't issue trigger warnings. If you have a trigger, assume I will hit it and make your decisions accordingly.

My characters do not always live happily ever after. Things aren't always finished with a nice, neat bow. Sometimes the ending is very messy indeed.

Not a review so much as a broader description of one of the major situations in this book.

Mal de Debarquement is a real condition. It can happen when one is on a boat for a time. You get off the boat, but the world never stops rocking. Or you ride an escalator and the world never stops rocking. Climbing up a hill, riding a train. There are countless triggers.

It can be extremely debilitating. Cases can be so severe that the sufferer can no longer drive. Or cannot easily walk down stairs, or follow a curved walking path. Cannot watch a video of someone riding a horse.

It can last for years. For decades. Or for weeks. It can recur unexpectedly.

This book is the first, to my knowledge, to deal with the subject in a fiction setting. The first character to suffer from the condition. I searched amazon for it, using several different key words. All I found were bits of medical texts on balance disorders.

This is the first work of fiction to draw attention to the pervasive nature of Mal de Debarquement.

Wonderful!

Amazing as always and kept me glued to my seat! Arlyn is such an intriguing read, she is so head strong and verbal you never know what she will do next and what adventure she will be having because of it. The sexual encounters were perfectly described, you could see things happening in your mind. They weren't outlandish or repetitive. The whole book series is something like the travels of Hercules. Each story so incredible but so real. I jump on every book TylerRose writes!
