Larry Martin – Two Thousand Miles Bk 3 – Rush to Destiny – Reviewed 3/26/20 – Read 3/19-22/20
The fascinating beginning for Edward Fitzgerald Beale and how he became our classic American Hero.
When Ned Beale’s father died, Ned’s school life came to an abrupt stop. Ned’s mother always had faith in her children and told Ned that he could do anything that he set his mind to. That faith was the one thing that Ned always carried deep in his heart. When he was 15 and with the help of his mother he had an appointment with the Navy as a midshipman. This is the beginning of Ned’s life that would lead him to cross our country on horseback over 13 times. He became the hero of the battle of San Pasqual, transported the first evidence of the gold rush to Washington and the leader of the camel experiment. His accomplishments were many as were his appointments in the civic American life. Governor, Indian agent and others just to name a few. Besides, he became a very wealthy man with is wise investments for the west and more. A fictional look at one of America's hero’s!
What did I like? I have read so many of Larry’s books, and love his writing style. If his books were used in our school systems to teach our youth about American history, I think they would actually learn something. History is boring if you just state facts, but if you tell it in a story form, it becomes a mystery to be solved. Who doesn’t love solving them?
What will you like? As I stated, if all history was told in this format, we would all enjoy history and it would sink in. The storyline is told from the author’s POV but with more of an intimate look at the man himself, not just what he did. This is well written, with historical facts well documented, excellent research shows on every page, besides the author makes our hero our next-door neighbor so that we can identify with him. Another awesome book from our bestselling author, adding to the numerous books he has already penned.
