Spent childhood and youth abroad in Asia, Africa, North America and Europe. Didn't have much to show for it at the end of the road, except for some great experiences, a host of friends, and a spoonful of English. Being fundamentally lazy, tried to make a living with the language skills of the latter, rather than learning new tricks or developing fresh skills. I.e. secondary school teacher of English at various Dutch secondary schools. However, my insistence that education should be fun in order to be effective didn't really fit in with a system that is geared to paperwork rather than pupils.

Currently trying to make a living as a full-time writer in Brighton, UK.

Exceeded all my expectations

I am already a follower of three of these fine writers and looked forward to the release of this Dragonfest anthology. Some of the stories are flash fiction, ranging from humorous to pleasantly disturbing. They are all filled with striking imagery, heat and passion. For Dragon fans, this collection is well your time

As a taster to a range of great authors, this book is an ideal starting place. Don't worry about the comment about sample chapters - these chapters are all stand-alone and won't leave you feeling cheated on a cliff's edge. I've read at least one book by each of these authors before and can say that the book is a fair reflection of their writing styles though it was rewarding to see some authors (waves to Mary) writing outside of her usual time and period and to get short stories to support the books from others (waves to Nils). I think regardless of your choice in reading fantasy, there will be something to take your fancy - dragons come in modern, mythological, historical and epic fantasy modes. They are real, physiological and make your own mind up. Not all will have you for dinner but all are true dragons. It is hard for the author in this world where the big publishing houses seem to stick to tried and tested paths - it is very good to see authors provide handrails and ropes so people can explore the less well travelled paths. I hope you will join them and find hidden spots of wonder. As a bonus, all their profits go to an animal rescue - easier than splitting hopefully more than meagre profits between 12 authors and the 3 illustrators who have created a fantastic cover. Pity Guy Fawkes is past as reading of dragon while rockets bang and fill their air with smoke and flame was a bonus.

HOOO BOY!! I mean, I know I am one of the contributing authors in this, and I’d read a couple things to participate in the editing process, but it wasn’t everything, so I was really interested in finding out what everyone else had written.

OH MY LORT SO MUCH AMAZING!! Navy Logan is DEFINITELY going on my Author Radar. His “101 Uses For A Dragon” so endearing and chaotic and wonderful, Sir Terry Pratchett couldn’t have done any better! Always a pleasure to read Nils Visser—his deep-seeded fantastical folklore will haunt your dreams! The sample chapters included in this compilation had me SALIVATING. Such glorious imagery, and unique perspectives on dragon lore—a wonderful experience, and well worth the price of admission for these few things alone, to say nothing of the fun and fascinating drabbles, too!

This is an outstanding collection of stories, all having to do with dragons in some way. The stories are from twelve different authors so styles vary, but there wasn't a dud in the bunch. One by the editor was written in present tense, but it was actually done well which is rare.

I've read a few of the authors before so I knew I could expect above average quality for at least some, but I was pleasantly surprised overall. I've added A,J. Noon to my favorite author list and sent for samples of his other work. I do like a bit of humor in my Fantasy!

The editing was also above average, even for big publisher books. I counted four minor typos for the whole book, plus two in the author bio section. I bet they didn't check there!

It was an enjoyable collection and included sample chapters from some of the authors' other books as well, but they were self-contained segments that didn't leave me wondering what was going on.

It's also good knowing that any money generated from the project is going to a ferret rescue center. So a good read and something to help animals. Win-win! And the cover art on the paperback version is amazing!

An interesting collection of first chapters, excerpts, a few short stories and other samples from various writers. As with any sampling -- some were excellent and some left much to be desired.

Overall it wasn't a bad read and it was a nice way to sample the writing of multiple authors. I was a bit surprised once I started reading, since I clicked on a post on facebook that presented this as an anthology (which it isn't) and didn't bother to read the description on amazon and instead just clicked "buy" so I was expecting a collection of complete stories.
