Kirsten Oliphant grew up in Richmond, Virginia and went to the University of Mary Washington. She moved to Texas, married a Texan, and now will forever clap four times when anyone sings, "The stars at night are big and bright."

She received her MFA from University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 2007, then moved back to Texas, where she and her husband started their family. They now have five children.

For years, Kirsten hosted the Create If Writing podcast, dedicated to helping author sell more books without being smarmy. (The podcast is no longer active, but you can find all the blog posts on Create If Writing dot com and many of the episodes' audio on YouTube.) She spoke at conferences and events such as Blog Elevated, BlogHer Food, Mediavine, Social Media Breakfast, and Podcast Movement. For several years, she was named one of Houston's Top 25 Social Media Power Influencers.

In 2018, she began writing in a whole new genre from YA and literary books: romance. As Emma St. Clair, Kirsten has written over twenty sweet romances and primarily focuses on closed door romantic comedy--books with all the sizzle but no spice. She is a two-time USA Today Bestselling author (once as Kirsten Oliphant for a nonfiction book and once as Emma St. Clair) and has found a lovely readership and community.

At some point, Kirsten may return to her literary or YA roots. As Sullivan Gray, she has also written some YA urban fantasy. Her love for writing and for story is something that's always been important, and she recently told her husband she wants to be writing until the day she dies.

You can find her most active as @kikimojo on Instagram or look for the Create If Writing Facebook group if you'd like community for authors.

Kirsten Oliphant delves into many aspects of collaboration. She suggests etiquette for properly approaching collaboration, gives knowledgeable insight into legal considerations and inspires readers to pursue collaboration as a means to spur their own growth and enjoy the creative process in writing and business. Drawing from her own experience in collaborating, Kirsten shows how beneficial working with others can be. This is not a book you can judge by the cover. Much wisdom is shared and it is well worth picking up.

Great guide for collaborations in the (mostly) online space. Full disclosure: I am a contributor. Kirsten's a great writer. It's well organized with a lot of easy and actionable tips.

* I was given a copy in exchange for an honest review.

Kirsten Oliphant's "Creative Collaborations" is a comprehensive look at how to have a successful collaboration. She covers multiple types of collaborations, includes time and commitment ratings, uses her own personal experience with collaborations, but also includes the advice of others with more experience in specific collaborations.
The book is split into several sections. Part One covers broad topics such as legal issues, why, how, and more. The second part of the book covers specific types of collaborations with in-depth explanations, time and commitment ratings, and links for more information.
If you are thinking about collaborating on a project, get this book before you commit.

Well done with good advice from many other people

I loved how she showed us what good collaborations look like, with several chapters by other creators.

The writing was conversational and easy to follow. The formatting and other technical issues were excellent in quality.

Unfortunately, I was actually left with an unwillingness to collaborate! I don't think this is the author's fault but mine. I don't know that I want to put in all the extra work and frustration that collaborations seem to include. I know the author claims to be an introvert, too, but it sounds like she's a very friendly introvert who has no problem striking up conversations with strangers at events. In fact, most of the suggestions of ways to work with people scare me or don't interest me at all. Like I said, though, I don't think it's the author's fault, which is why I still gave it 4 stars.
