The Missing Ingredient is the latest of the Charlotte Reade Mystery Series. All 3 of them have been outstanding and a pleasure to read. When I first recognized the author's name, Laura Cayouette, it caught my eye because of her distinguished acting career. (I loved her performance in Django Unchained where she played the sister of Leonardo DiCaprio in a memorable performance). My curiosity was sparked with her additional move into the author industry in recent years, and she continues to shine!!!!!!
This book continues Laura's unique ability to combine a fun, fictional mystery plot with real life details about the magnificent city of New Orleans. With this book, Ms. Cayouette is a master of including an intriguing look into the actual behind the scenes life of making a movie, from its initial plannings straight through to the final editing and release. As a movie lover my whole life, after reading this book, I will forever have a more appreciative attitude for the complicated situations that arise throughout its making. Eyebrow raisers!!! Bravo to Charlotte Reade!!!!
Like her initial two books in this series (ALSO MUST READS), Laura includes an appendix that lists every actual person, establishment and event associated with New Orleans used in her novel. Laura certainly knows Hollywood, but make no mistake, she is the #1 Ambassador of New Orleans. Whether you are a resident or not, all 3 of these books will act as the perfect City Guide for any visit to this fascinating city.
One final point. There is a short but special segment in the Missing Ingredient where Laura Cayouette includes a scene about a former New Orleans Saints football player named Steve Gleason. Not a Hall of Famer or even an All Star, but one of the most beloved players in their franchise history, who has been battling ALS for several years now. Was it needed in the book's plot? No, but it summarizes the character of this city, this book, and of the author herself.
I LOVED THIS BOOK. And I hope THE CHARLOTTE READE MYSTERY SERIES continues!!!!!

This is the third in the Charlotte Reade Mystery Series and I am completely hooked. Normally I am not a big fan of mysteries, a lot of the time I feel like the constant search for clues gets in the way of the story. Thankfully that is not the case with the Charlotte Reade mysteries. The main character Charlotte's daily life and the vibrant and beautifully crafted city in which she lives (New Orleans) perfectly complement the mystery to be solved. Providing me with a page turner that in the end leaves me comforted yet yearning for the next installment. My advice is start with the first in the series and don't stop till you've read them all!
