one more star for book 4! Definitely better than book 3 &4 IMO because it was different and we didn't have insta-love or insta-lust here. More like a dislike to friends, and the lust/love progressively settling with a lot of angst too!
Hayden Henley is the older brother of the sisters in the 1st books. He was presumed dead after his ship drowned while traveling with his parents, but he survived and was sold into slavery and had a rough decade. Of course he is now filthy rich (aren't they always when they are back from the deads? -_-) and is ready to take back his place in society. For that, he wants to wed as high as possible, as daughter of a duke at least or a princess, no less! He met Helen in the canaries and since she is helpless, he helps her and becomes her protector against his will. Problem is, Helen is really pretty and Hayden is slowly falling for her, but since she is the lowly daughter of a defrocked vicar, she is beneath him and acts quite arrogantly towards her. They fight a first time, they reconcile before she returns to England and they met again back home. Hayden was so arrogant and annoying with his princess thing, but what was maddening is him acting so romantic with Helen, like she is beneath you so leave her alone! Even after they had sex and she was naively expecting mariage, he brought again their stations Fk U Hayden for real. I had enough of reading how handsome he was with his golden hair and blue eyes and large shoulders and manly virile body. He had no redeeming qualities. Even at the end when he went to get her back, he didn't properly grovel. He was so sure she would forgive him just like that, and it happened -_-
The star of the book was Helen of course, Hayden didn't deserve her. What he really needed was some PTSD therapy, but it looks like it will be Helen's job, poor lady!
I also hated Robert! What right did he have to be so arrogant, like sir you are only a pirate and before that you were just a nobody who was deemed not good enough for a rich girl. Yet you are looking on the vicar's younger daughter because your cousin is a baron and as Hayden's friend, the connections should grant your son a higher bride?!
The stroy was good overall, I love how Jasper and his wife Desdemonda got their karma like the other vilains in the series. But I wish, really wish Helen made Hayden crawl before taking him back...
This is the fourth and final book which brings the Henley siblings' stories to a conclusion. Hayden Henley is alive. He did not drown with his parents. For the last ten years he has been sailing the world, first sold into slavery and then as an indentured seaman. During his travels he met Robert Stone who helped him escape. They now own their own ship and have accumulated great wealth. While in the Canaries, preparing to load their vessel 'Nine Lives' prior to heading for home Hayden meets Helen Barnes, who with her sister has arrived on the island to meet her father. Helen seems adept at getting into all sorts of problems and although Hayden finds himself attracted to her, she doesn't fit in with his future. His plan is to sail to England, take back his title and marry a rich debutante and Helen is a mere preacher's daughter. Unable to locate their father, Hayden pays for Helen and her sister Becky fare home thinking he'll never see her again. I didn't enjoy this as much as the other three books. Because it was the fourth there was quite a bit of back story and it seemed to be repeated occasionally as if to remind us what had happened in the past. I didn't really take to Helen and didn't enjoy the romance with Hayden. Unlike the other three books there weren't any real challenges for our two main characters - only Hayden having to make his mind up about how his future should progress and whether or not it included Helen. The only plus in this story was the ending which brought all three sisters and their brother together.
This was a wonderful ending to this delightful series and I enjoyed every minute of it. The reunion of the Henley family was so joyous and well worth the wait. I have to admit that Hayden upset me when he told Helen that he couldn't marry her after taking her virginity. I felt such compassion for Helen at that moment for how much Hayden had hurt her but he finally came around just as all the Henley sisters men did in their respective stories. The reunion of Mildred and Robert was also something I was anticipating and I really enjoyed their story. This was such an entertaining series and I thoroughly enjoyed all four books. I was really anxious to read Hayden's story and the author did not disappoint.
I love reading Cheryl Holt's books, I hate it when I come to the end of the series or the end of the book you get so wrapped up in the book and their lives it's like saying good bye to part of a family.
I liked how she summed up everyone's life quickly at the end. I would have went for more books to the series. But then I would continue staying up half the night reading.
I loved this series! Every book was great I highly recommend this series. Ms. Holt has done a great job with these stories. I couldn't wait to read Each one. I think they should be read in order, to better appreciate the whole series. Buy them. You will love these stories too.
This was a brilliant conclusion to this very good series! It was nice to learn how the loose ends of each plot finally came together. Hayden and Helen were great characters to get to know and it was a great idea to have them meet in foreign climes before we got back to the plot waiting in the background. Excellent!
The premise and meet-cute were interesting but the abundance of other characters [some unlikable] and their backstories which detract from the two main characters led me to skim this book to its ending.
I didn't know this was the last book in a series so that might account for the numerous characters and etc.
I loved the entire series. Minimal sexual content, but really great love stories. Enjoyed the way the story continues as each new book is read with unexpected story twists and turns that kept me reading way past my bedtime. I am looking forward to reading more of her great stories.
Historical romances can be stuffy but, this book was so enjoyable I read in one afternoon. Action, drama and intrigue....I loved the plot and especially the character of Hayden Henley. Will be reading more of Cheryl Holts books. Thoroughly enjoyable.
Please do not attempt to read unless you start with book number one. After you read it you will not be able to stop until you have read all four. They are that good. I ordered all four at once and just stayed on a constant non stop roll.
I love Cheryl 's writing style. This was a very good book. I was drawn to the characters, who were interesting and compelling. Helen was very likable, always wanting to be helpful. I was glad for her to have her dream come true.
A wild ride filled with coincidental meetings and reconciliations
Entertaining and amusing in parts this story ties up a few loose ends and gives deserved HEAs to some couples and the just deserves for another. A lot of interesting coincidences, but all in all a good read.
It was such a good story that I had to keep reading until I finished it. Although I would have loved the h to have really given it to the H, it was still a well thought out story with good dialogue and it wrapped up the series beautifully.
THE WORST HERO ever. He used her, manipulated her and tossed her away because he wanted to marry rich heiress. When he found out that he left bustard children with previous relation, then he begged heroine..... stupid. And Writer repeat same thing again and again.
