Trev Lince originates from Marske-by-the-Sea on the North East coast of England, but now lives in Darlington with his wife, Claire.

Their daughter, Annie, is a very good guitarist and is setting up a band, playing every pub in the North East that she can. She’s so rock and roll, living the dream while her father is approaching his mid-life crisis.

A keen golfer and frustrated Middlesbrough FC fan, Trev gets to as many matches as work and leisure time allow. He writes in what little spare time he has, when not working as a IT Consultant for a major oil company in Surrey.

Room 119 – The Whitby Trader is Trev’s first book and he really enjoyed the experience of writing it. Who knows? He may have a few more stories bursting to get out of his head.

He would like to thank you for reading his debut novel.

Whitby is famous for Kippers, Dracula & been the worst place to go if have heart condition or in a wheelchair because it thousands of Bloody steps .
If never been to the Sea side town you not know that it's beautiful place but it's climb those steps you feel as if are trapped in memory of steps. This about Whitby Trader and his son Dean it's important you know about Whitby but it's not set in Whitby .
Dean Harrison is rich business man with money to burn has lovely wife, fast car & very soon he have a room key to hell .
119 in Welnetham Hall Hotel in middle of Nowhere that's somewhere. Is not the sort room anyone wants it's door to nowhere.
Written by Darlington author it's not often I find an author from my home town the only other is John Dean .Darlington is the home of Vic Reeves ,Mark Gatiess & famous for been were first passenger train in 1825 came from.
I have never worked in an office but I know what it can be like. I never got on either with most men special those my own age, I was brought up by my mother who was equality officer for woman's rights in NUJ & with result I hate sexist men. This about greed , money, filthy sexist jokes & An utter shit called Oliver we all have some time in are lives will have meet some like him .But unlucky for Dean this one is ultimate C word .So far this a black comedy but ?
This isn't set in Whitby but is about all those steps Dean is like the Fool in the Tarot cards stood with a pack upon his back going nowhere & ending up somewhere. This is the steps we take big steps, little steps, bad & good backwards forwards & round the blood bend this time travel this darkness creek clowns, ghastly puns & one hell good Nightmare & my favorite bit in the book is on p.173 straight out of the movie The Seventh Seal a favourite of mine. Thank goodness I am passionate about supporting local North East authors, or I might have missed this amazing book. I was expecting a novel about a stock trader who maybe takes one risk too many and loses his job, his family, and himself. What I did not expect was the direction that the story went in and my wholehearted enjoyment of it. Leave your expectations at the door for this one and just buckle up and enjoy the ride it takes you on.

For some readers, the beginning of the book might be a little off-putting, with all that testosterone flying around the trading floor. I work in finance so I loved the buzz of the stocks and shares, the bulls and the bears and the backstabbing as the new guy tries to make a name for himself. Whatever you do, don't give up if you don't like the first chapter or two; it is a necessary part of the story which comes full circle at the end, but the real story is about to begin and what an outstanding story it is!

I loved Dean's character. He may be a city big shot but he hasn't forgotten his roots in the North East. He is a classic case of a 'live to work' person: his life revolves around his job, often at the expense of his family. A family he really does care about, after all, he's working so hard to give them everything they want but the only thing they really want is him. He just doesn't realise it...yet. A visit to creepy Welnetham Hall is about to change all of that.

Strange things happen to Dean when he stays in Room 119. He wakes up to a fairground outside his window where he is rescued by a clown after being pursued by a tall man dressed in black with a silver topped stick. I had just started to think that it felt like he'd fallen down the rabbit hole when Dean announced that they're "all mad here". T.F. Lince then added some Back to the Future vibes and even a bit of Homer's Odyssey to the Alice in Wonderland pot and created a thoroughly entertaining rip-roaring story.

What I loved most of all, although it sounds quite lighthearted and a bit wacky, it has a pretty serious message running through it. Getting that work/life balance just right is a tricky skill to master and Dean didn't even realise he'd got it wrong until it was almost too late. It's also quite thought-provoking and I struggled to hold back my tears when reading the chapters about the care home for Alzheimer's and dementia patients. I've often thought with such conditions that you've lost your loved one whilst they are right infront of your eyes; perhaps they are living in a between-world, I'd like to think so.

What an outstanding debut: hugely entertaining, thought-provoking and extremely emotional; I really would have kicked myself if I had missed it. FIVE HUGE STARS, it is without doubt one of my top books of the year. I highly recommend Room 119 - 'The Whitby Trader' and I can say with the utmost certainty that you won't have ever read anything like it!

I chose to read an ARC and this is my honest and unbiased opinion.

Initially when I saw this debut book advertised I was drawn to it because of where the book is set. I have visited Whitby very many times since I was a small child. It is a beautiful seaside town with a lot of history including Whitby Abbey and the Dracula story. Trev Lince comes from Marske a short walk along the coast from where I live and again a place many time visited. His first novel originated from a dream.

I haven't been disappointed though. It has a most unusual theme centred around the back ground of a jigsaw puzzle. Basically the main character begins in the novel on top of the world - an outstanding successful business man, full of confidence with the typical background of having little time for his wife and child because of this. Almost his whole life is devoted to his job. Pride can come before a fall! Enough said without spoilers. Well worth a read and I have enjoyed this book immensely after a bit of a shaky start. I wish this amazing new author much success for the future.

My main criticism and this is a personal one... is the excessive bad language especially in the early stages of the book.

Room 119: The Whitby Trader was one of those books that I wasn't quite sure what to think when it was given to me. A first novel by a new author. Those tend to make me nervous. I have found that they are either fantastic, decent, or just not that good. I went into this book with only having skimmed the blurb because I wanted a clean slate going into it.

It started out on a high note which both excites me and makes me nervous. Start out too high and you can only go down from there. That was not the case here. The flow was good throughout the book. Full of humor, intrigue, and emotion. I found myself wanting to read more. I could even look past the inclusion of a clown. *shudder* (There is nothing creepier than a clown.)

This was one of those books that ran the gamut of emotions. I was laughing out loud at some parts and ugly crying at other parts. It is refreshing to encounter a book that draws you in and not only makes you think but also feel. Add in a spash of the totally unexpected and you really have something.

Thank you to the author for sending me a digital copy in exchange for an honest review. I am rating this book Five Stars because it was a delight to read. Definitely does not feel like a debut novel. I look forward to seeing what else the author has to offer us in the future. Highly recommend.

'Room 119:The Whitby Trader' was a wonderful, magical, and sometimes scary tale of one man's chance at redemption.
With the dry British humor, there were a lot of twists and turns to keep the reader engaged - all of which culminated in a satisfying conclusion.
With Lince's first foray into writing, he has done an exceptionally good job!

I received a free eBook copy from the author in exchange of an honest review

Writing: 5/5
Originality: 5/5
Characters: 5/5

Firstly, I want to give a huge thank you to T.F. Lince for issuing me with a review copy of this novel.

The story evolves around Dean Harrison, a trader who does his job exceptionally well. He has the image of a perfect life. He lives in a London penthouse apartment, he has a beautiful wife and daughter and a nice and fast car. However, things begin to change and Dean soon finds his life unravelling, becoming less stable at alarming speed. Following the advice of a stranger, Dean goes to Welnetham Hall Hotel and is suddenly and abruptly thrown into the world of Room 119.

When I initially began reading, I expected a basic story with a man who makes a mistake and ruins his life. I didn’t expect the plot twists and the sharp turns of the story that had me sitting on edge!

I loved Dean’s character. He was sarcastic and funny with a dry British humour (and this worked for me as I have lived in Great Britain for my entire life). Dean never forgets how important his family is to him and I loved this aspect of him as it made the story enjoyable. However, he places far too much importance on his career. He is doing this for his family, but this neglects them at times and, they only want him with them.

“Dean did not want to see anyone right now, but if he had to make a list of people he did want to see when he did not want to see anyone, Jack would be top of it.”

Dean stays in Room 119 and then odd things begin to happen. He wakes up to see a fairground where he is pursued by a tall man and saved by a clown. Everyone in the hotel seems to know his name, he travels there on a train line that had shut down over fifty years ago. The reader will soon be captivated by the story and sucked into the mystery of it all.

I won’t say what parts I found emotional as it would ruin the book for future readers, but this book has its aspects that left me as a sobbing mess. Honestly, everyone should give this book a chance.
This book was thought provoking and moving. It may seem light-hearted but there is a message in between the words.

I loved reading about Jodie and I simply assumed she was irrelevant. Let’s just say that I was wrong, and she is undoubtedly relevant to the story!

This is T.F. Lince’s debut novel and I already know that this will be a great success! I highly recommend this novel to anyone who wants to read a unique mystery story that’s unlike any other you would have read!

A pop of the cork and a glass of bubbly to T.F. Lince for his debut book, Room 119: The Whitby Trader.

Part mystery, part thriller, part fantasy, part romance, this book and its twisty-turny plot are a feather in Lince' cap, a beautiful rose in his lapel.

I came upon this book by pure luck/coincidence and am obviously glad that I did. I understand that
Lince had a dream/dreams from which this plot evolved.

I just have one sentence of advice for you, Trevor: go back to bed and dream up another one. Congratulations.

Wow! Not my usual type of read, but I have been totally gripped by this storyline. It certainly pulls on your heartstrings and the main characters draw you in, to their never ending plight!
I have to admit, I'm a little worried as to how it will end.........sniff sniff or sigh of relief!

Oh my goodness, it took me several chapters to understand where this story was heading, but once my brain had finally grabbed the reins, I couldn't let go.
It's a great storyline, that brings home a moral understanding of human error and frailties, that touch everyone at some point in our lives. You might need to keep some tissues handy!!!

Personally I think this is very cleverly written novel, more especially as its this author's first book
Absolutely loved it!

This story is so different to anything I have ever read before. A must read.
You start thinking it’s going to be a typical spooky ghost story. I went into it thinking it was going to be a cliche.
I really need to stop thinking I know how a story is going to be!
This isn’t a ghost story, it is much deeper than that.
It’s wonderfully written, thought provoking and moving whilst still remaining humourous in places where it’s needed to be.
I don’t want to spoil the book for you, but please go in with an open mind. You will root for Dean the whole way through.
It really sticks with you...
Never take what you have for granted, you never know when you’re going to lose it all.

Thank you for this book, T.F Lince.

I thought this was going to be a straight forward mystery book about a strange room in a hotel... well I was wrong!
The story has got so many elements to it that I was really drawn in and had to read constantly from half way through to find out how it ended.
Dean is struggling with the work/life balance and his wife gets to the point where she’s had enough. He also has problems at work so basically he reaches rock bottom.
He gets asked to stay in Room 119 at a hotel and so he thinks ‘why not?’
What follows is very strange but trust me, it all comes together in the end.
It is a real heartwarming story and I loved all the characters in this book.
There is a supernatural element to the book and this really adds to the mystery.
This is a fantastic debut novel and I hope there will be more to come!
Thanks to T F Lince fur sending me a copy to read and review.

WHAT A BOOK! I genuinely thought this was going to be a revenge story and boy was I wrong 😂 I was pleasantly surprised though! This book started getting a bit abnormal and I was intrigued! Especially after first visiting Room 119. I was swept up in this story and honestly this was such a heartfelt and impactful story. Dean, as much as I disliked him at the beginning, managed to redeem himself by the end! Absolutely loved this book and need to get my hands on a physical copy!

Another great read and interesting storyline that is very different from the usual mysteries that I've read. Loved the ending!!

I do have one or two questions, but don't want to spoil the fun for anyone.

One note though - the Irish jockey's name should be spelt Séamus.

I feel the author of this book needs more creative writing classes or to read more books to understand how a book is constructed. There is too much tell rather that showing in this book. The plot idea is interesting, but the story takes too long to get started.

A writer needs to understand that their readers are intelligent people therefore they don’t need to know what noise a can makes when it is opened. The writer needs to focus on what moves their plot forward, not dragging their feet with unimportant details. As a writer you only need to explain things which are important to the plot, I.e don’t describe the colour of the curtains and carpet unless they are important to the plot later on.

A writer need to know what is the main plot line to their story, then focus on that alone. Start with a large explosion I.e get your reader excited building the tension and keeping the action going to build the story. By chapter 9 I was bored and couldn’t careless about the main character.

This book goes into too much unnecessary detail, the opening three chapters has no hook and in full of unnecessary information dumping. A book should always open with action, or a hook that makes a reader what to read on. I struggled with this book.

The author needs to learn his craft.
T.F you certainly shouldn’t be awarding yourself 5stars for your own Book. Not on any reviewing forum. It is for readers to do.

The first few chapters of this book were rather heavy going. I have next to no interest in the ins & outs of city finance and Dean seemed to be the perfect example of all I find wrong with that world- driven by greed, never happy with what they've got and anxious to come out on top regardless of who gets trampled or neglected on the way.

However when things start going seriously wrong for Dean was when I began become intrigued. That fascination continued for the rest of the book. It is difficult to say much about the plot without giving away the story, suffice to say I was totally enthralled & it even made me (almost) view clowns in a different light.

This is a great first novel. I absolutely loved it & it has gone straight into the top spot for books read so far this year. I'm really looking forward to seeing what T.F. Lince will have to offer next. Thanks to TBC for giving me the chance to read this super book.

The first while is slow but you need the background, you’ll see why!!

I don’t want to say much because I don’t want to ruin the book for you, but just WOW. Gripping storyline, and not an expected one either!

The writing style was great, easy to read and drags you into what’s going on, i both admired and wanted to slap the main character to begin with haha

I couldn’t put it down once i got a few chapters into it, and then when he gets to room 119 the book just gets better! Brilliantly written, I really hope this gets turned into a film 😍😍😍😍

This book took me by surprise; unexpected twists to a long expected tale. "The Whitby Trader" begins like any other story about a trader-wheeler-dealer making that one error in judgement that sends his whole life plummeting down. In Dean Harrison's case he literally does plummet, shimmering in and out of consciousness as he struggles to come to terms with failure.
But then Lince draws us onto some rather unexpected journeys, forcing the reader to contend with some rather pressing (but difficult) questions -- what does it mean to lead a 'good' life? To live in the moment? For Lince, life is indeed a gift, and one that all too many of us take for granted. Dean Harrison's story is both cautionary and inspirational. It left me feeling thankful for what I have and resolving to love my journey all the more, for it.
The premise of this book asks us to think about very pertinent questions, as do the connections drawn between reality and fantasy. I thought that Lince's depiction of an Alzheimer patient's world was beautifully drawn, as was the love between father and daughter, and in many instances, husband and wife.
In terms of the writing itself I think the book holds potential, but could benefit from strong editing. Some of the descriptions were repetitive, and perhaps the author would gain more impact by demonstrating/describing interactions than simply telling us what a character was thinking. That said, it was an impressive debut; I look forward to more books from T M Lince.

Room 119-The Whitby Trader

Whitby is one of my favourite places, I especially love the history behind the town, so when I had the opportunity to read Room 119 and it’s links to Whitby, I jumped at the chance!

You cannot fail to be entertained by this book. It draws you in, grabs you and will not let you go. It’s an atmospheric read with twists and turns that will keep you on the edge of your seat throughout. I don’t want to give any spoilers away, suffice to say I highly recommend this great debut novel! Five shiny stars!

This is a brilliantly imagined and written debut novel.
Based on one man's chance at redemption, it highlights what should be important in our lives.
There are parallel story threads that move beautifully together.
The pace is frenetic at times and the reader is drawn into the race.
The cast of characters and the interesting story made it a wonderful read for me.

IT'S A JOURNEY OF THE MIND AND HEART!

1. Characters ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Dean Harrison is a stock trader.
Dexter Falconer is Dean's boss; he owns Falconer International.
Oliver Steadman-Fisher is a whiz kid who works with Dean.
Sarah Harrison is Dean's wife.
Jodie Harrison is Dean's and Sarah's daughter.

2. Plot ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (SPOILER ALERT!!SKIP THIS IF YOU DON'T WANT TO SEE TOO MUCH)
Dean Harrison is a stock trader and is a very good one. He hits all his stock targets and Dexter Falconer congratulates him for his good work.
Jodie's birthday is Saturday and Dean doesn't want to miss it; but it's Friday and the guys from the office goes out for drinks. Dean doesn't plan to be out all night; he even sets his alarm so he leave early and get home in time to help Sarah get things ready. After going for drinks, the guys decide to go to a strip club. Oliver doesn't like Dean, so he spikes Dean's drink. The next thing he knows, he's in the alley, beaten up. A co-worker, Martin, sees him in the alley and takes him to his apartment in London. When Dean wakes up, it's after noon! The party starts at 2pm so he showers, changes, and speeds his way home. He barely gets there in time. Sarah is furious with him. After the party, Sarah and Dean talk. He tries to explain what happened but Sarah doesn't want to hear it. She wants him to leave; she needs time to think, she's not even sure she still loves him. Dean leaves, feeling sad about what's happened, hoping he can repair his relationship with Sarah and Jodie.
Dean has an "inside" government friend who has information about Killen Steel. Dean has authorization from Dexter to trade a large amount of money. During a training seminar, Dean is called to Dexter's office. While he's there, his cell phone rings in the training room. Oliver picks it up; it's his government friend wanting to tell Dean to pull his money out of Killen Steel but Oliver doesn't tell Dean. The deal goes bad and the firm loses millions. Dexter fires Dean; he loses his apartment, credit cards and car. Dean calls Sarah and she's already heard about what happened.
Dean is devastated and goes to Beachy Head - he's going to jump off the cliff. While he's contemplating his next move, he sees an old couple sitting on a bench. The old man knows his name and he walks over to them. Dean tells them what's happened. The old man, Albert, gives Dean a card and tells him he needs to book Room 119 at the Welnetham Hall. Albert tells Dean that he and his wife, Betty, spent their honeymoon there and believe going there will help Dean. Dean is on his way back to his apartment when he's in a car accident. He thinks he made it back to London. He makes a reservation for Room 119. He arrives and takes a nap but wakes up to loud noises. He looks out the window and sees a carnival. He decides to check it out....
Dean has lost everything; his wife, daughter, job and his dignity. What's happening to Dean? Will he recover?

3. Writing Structure ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Trev has weaved an extraordinary story; one of suspense and other worldly. He has created characters that are real and that you care about. Dean is a person the reader can identify with; making mistakes and wanting a second chance. Some of us get that chance; others don't. Trev has created scenes and people who help Dean on his journey. It's a journey of the mind and heart!

4. Ending ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
The ending is absolutely mind-blowing! Dean continues his journey to get that "second chance". What happens from this point forward is exceptional! Does Dean get that second chance? What will he do with his life? With his family?

5. Overall ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
This is Trev's debut book! It's a story born from a dream he had. I have never read a book like this. If I could give it 10 ⭐'s, I would! I highly recommend this book; you will not be disappointed. I look forward to more books by Trev. This is a story I will not soon forget.
Dean makes a statement that I'll leave you with... "some things are worth fighting for"...

A very different book than my normal genre, but I really enjoyed it. An unusual story that kept me turning the pages, lots of unexpected things going on, and an emotional book.

I have to admit I didn't like the main character at first, he was driven by greed at work and paid very little attention to his wife and daughter. That changed as the book progressed and by the end of the book I loved him!

A brilliant debut from this author, I hope there are more to come.

Having had my head turned inside out by Mr Lince's out-of-this-world, brilliant book, Funicular, I went into Room 119 well prepared to be messed with again. Dean Harrison, an ordinary city trader, and the circumstances that befall him, made me rethink everything I thought I knew but so obviously don't. He is a most endearing character, as is his wife, Sarah and his daughter, Jodi, This element is the key to the brilliance of this book. There is genuine warmth in this story and the vocal talents of narrator, Jade McLean, meant I felt every nuance. Room 119 takes you on the kind of ride your wildest imaginings wouldn't dream of and I LOVED it. If you have ever lost someone - you'll love it too because it presents a picture of possibilities that are now playing out in my head. How I would love a 'do-over' with a departed and hugely missed, adored loved one. The characters are too gorgeously bonkers; Benji, Mrs McCauly, all of the players are so divine. When Dean partnered Benji I thought my heart would burst with joy, couple that with singing at the wedding, (I'm trying not to put any spoilers in), where I wept with unbridled envy at the concept. No detail is too small; sea shanties, stock trading details, defunct railway lines and stations. Mr Lince has worked extremely hard to make sure that we readers/listeners can rely on him to get everything right. In Room 119 not only has Mr Lince created a masterpiece story in which he employs exquisite language and captivating characters, he has also created a myriad of new 'what ifs'. My mind is working away thinking about all the options and maybes thanks to the unrivalled imagination of this exceptional author. A truly unique and quirky concept that has burrowed its way into my heart and soul and will remain there for a very long time. This is a book you really need to buy. You can thank me later

Dean Harrison is a high-flying trader and the world is his oyster until the day it all comes crashing down around him. When he drives to Beachy Head to fling himself over, (his charmed life in tatters), he meets an old man who sends him on an unbelievable journey that will open his eyes and change him forever.

This is an oustanding debut novel! It kept me reading well into the night as I could not put it down. It is hard to define this as belonging to any one genre as it is definitely a thriller, a mystery and a suspense novel, but there is also fantasy and romance. However you define it, it most certainly belongs on your reading list.

Lince has an easy writing style that involves you right away and makes you feel right at home. His characters are brilliantly developed and it's hard not to engage with them all. There was not one part of the book that was predictable, which is why I read it in one sitting - that 'need to know what happens' thing kept me glued to my chair and kept me turning pages.

This book has a lot of depth. It is about life, death and fighting for what really matters; about finding - perhaps again - the person you really are and recognising your faults. But it is also about strength, love and appreciation of the wealth that surrounds you. All that is wrapped in a well told story that will thrill and keep you on the edge of your seat.

This is a truly wonderful novel for readers of many genres. It is entertaining, compelling and wonderfully moving. I am definitely looking forward to Mr Lince's next novel.

Highly recommended!

Room 119: The Whitby Trader was nothing at all like I expected. Not that I knew what to expect, because I do like to go into novels blind. As spoiler-free as I can possibly be, I would say this novel has something for everybody. Aspects of mythical characters, fantasy, horror, romance, family drama, but at the core very character-driven. Yes, there’s plenty of characters to get caught up with, but it’s well done and you’re never confused.
There were certain parts where it was obvious it was the author’s first novel - for about five running chapters at the beginning, during conversations each character would say the others name, even though it would’ve been easy enough to follow who was saying what. Easy enough to ignore, but something worth noting.
Mr Lince, you have some wonderful ideas up in that head of yours, so don’t let this be the last we hear from you. I do believe this is all ready and waiting on Amazon for release on 14th December 2017... Bag this up as a little Christmas gift for yourself!

Wow! Amazing throughout the whole book!

For this being his debut novel, T F Ounce knocked it out of the park! This book is well written and the story is beyond superb! I really loved reading it from start to finish. There was never a dull moment. I can't wait to read more of Lince's books.

I was drawn into this fantastical world that I never imagined existed.

This book surprised me. It wasn’t what I expected at all. I had mixed feelings while reading it but at the end I felt connected to the characters and very happy with the resolution of the story.

"I can't stop reading. I just have to know." Is something I kept saying to myself throughout this book. There were times during reading it that I felt the suspense and I could imagine the scenes being straight out of a movie.

The clown element freaked me out a bit at one point but it was an important part that couldn’t have been left out and I grew to like it more and more. I am no longer as freaked out by clowns. I loved how I couldn’t put it down and I could imagine the scenes vividly. It would make for a good movie.

A very intriguing and fantastically written book.
The story keeps you engaged from start to finish. I didn’t take to Dean at first, thought he was a little self-centred but as the story and his journey unfolded I felt myself warming to him and willing him to find his way.
This is a brilliant book and without revealing too much I will say it does make you stop and think about what happens when. I will definitely be recommending it to others.
