The Story Sisters #1-2

The Story Sisters

Rate this book
From New York Times bestselling author Katy Regnery comes the finale to the Blueberry Lane series!

The Bohemian and the Businessman is the first of three books about the Philadelphia-based Story sisters who are all on the look-out for love.

Priscilla Story, the self-proclaimed “wild child” of the straight-laced Story clan, has always had a knack for getting herself trouble. Except this time, her “growing problem” is going to require a Daddy sooner than later…or she can kiss her inheritance good-bye.

Shane Olson, who previously dated Priscilla’s sister, Margaret, isn’t opposed to a marriage of convenience for the sake of furthering his business interests, but Priscilla – with her wild ways – is just about the last woman he’d choose to marry.

In order to make the marriage look convincing, they end up having to spend more time together than they’d originally planned. When rolling stone, Priscilla, who lives by the seat of her muu-muu, and seriously-ambitious Shane, who’s had his whole life planned since he was eleven, start falling for each other, it’s going to take a whole lot of compromise for this Bohemian and her Businessman to find their happily ever after.

The Director and Don Juan is the second of three books about the Philadelphia-based Story sisters who are all on the look-out for love.

Heiress Alice Story left her father's company three years ago in a blaze of glory, inviting all of his employees to jump ship and join her, but only one accepted her offer: mail room clerk, Carlos Vega.

While Alice spent the next three years getting her own company off the ground, Carlos became her indispensable right-hand man -- executive assistant and office manager, loyal counsel and trusted co-worker.

And all the while, they were quietly falling in love with each other.

When Alice is offered a lucrative business deal in Puerto Rico, island-born Carlos is the perfect person to accompany her on her trip as translator, but as they travel together from Philadelphia to Santo Domingo to Ponce, two unlikely co-workers will discover that during their three years working together, their feelings for each other have grown far deeper than they ever could have guessed.

And though business-minded, proper Alice will try her very best to ignore the longings of her heart, scorching hot, insanely sexy Boricua, Carlos, has no intention of letting her go.

OVERALL RATING: 4 stars -- Fantastic pair of stories in the Blueberry Lane series!

OMG!!! Stratton has competition as my favourite Blueberry Lane boy!! Shane was sooooo my type of hero. He was unsure, and confused, and inexperienced, and sweet, and caring, and SO HOT with the way he loved Priscilla!! GAH! Yup, I LOVE me some beta-ish boys. I wasn't sure how I was going to feel about him after meeting him in Crazy About Cameron. He was so abrupt, and clueless, and I just didn't get a very swoony vibe from him at all. But wow, underneath all that serious exterior is someone who is just so focused on his goals, that he's let relationships fall by the wayside. I really enjoyed watching him struggle with his attraction to Priscilla, and his conflicting feelings about where he thought he was going, and where his path ends up taking him. His growth was really believable, and I LOVED the choices he made, and the points where he stood up for Pris...I didn't feel like we had to wait too long for that, I HATE when authors make you wait and then give you an abrupt change. Shane's transition and development was perfect. And on a sidenote, I want to punch Vicky in the nards!! Screw you Vicky!

And then we have Priscilla!! I was also confused on how to feel about P in CAC. But she was such a strange combination of sweet and wild! In fact, the wild is probably an overstatement. I think they just call her wild b/c they don't know what to do with her, b/c she breaks the mold. Sure, she may be a wanderer, but you find out there's reasons underlying that beyond the obvious. And OMG, I totally felt her vulnerability, and how much it hurt that being who she truly was inside was so frowned upon by most of her family. Honestly, I'm not sure how I'm going to fall in love with Betsy at all, she and Pris really have a volatile relationship...but I have faith that Ms. Regnery will work her magic. I get that in big families, there are often divisions between the different types of personalities. I LOVED that Pris had Meggie though (and vice versa).

And the great thing about Priscilla and Shane is that I really FELT their chemistry, and they totally made their "opposites attract" thing work. Like I could really feel how they each fascinated each other. Priscilla wanted to help Shane loosen up (and I think deep down he wanted that too), but she also needed the safety and security she felt with him. And Shane needed Priscilla's sweetness and light, but also gave her a safe place to acknowledge that it's OK to set down some roots. And damn! They sure know how to steam up the place!!

I will say that I'm a bit torn on Priscilla's extra secret. I don't mind the way she dealt with it, and I liked that it gave me a bit more understanding of her, but I felt like it came up really late in the book, and so it wasn't given as much attention as I would like. We didn't really get to see her have a conversation with Shane about it, it was just mentioned and moved on from. I guess that could happen, but it made me feel sad for Pris.

All in all, a FABULOUS read for me in the Blueberry Lane series. It was definitely my kind of book, and I LOVE that we get to see such wildly different people in this series, both boys and girls. Often times I feel like the heroes in long series can become a bit cookie cutter, but Ms. Regnery gives us a spectrum of both heroes and heroines. And manages to find a way for ALL characters to get into our hearts somehow. It's truly my absolute favourite thing about this series, that no matter the personality of the character, whether I'm like them or not, Ms. Regnery always manages to get me to *understand* them, and root for them. That's a sign of great character writing.

I love it when you dive into a favourite author's new book and she reminds you that YES you do love reading, and YES that last book just wasn't right for you!  Because I can wholeheartedly say that I was sucked into Alice and Carlos's story from the first page.  It's funny how it's hard to articulate what style of writing you love, but you just know it when you do...and Ms. Regnery's writing is always just smooth like butter, I can just consume it and devour it and I'm captivated instantly.

One of the things she does so well is chemistry between characters.  And Alice and Carlos definitely had that going for them in spades.  It's funny, b/c this one is a bit more of a slow burn romance, we don't get to the steam until like 70% I believe.  But all that anticipation is pretty delicious in itself, and then once the romance delivers, it's beautiful and tummy tingling!  I loved the way the romance between Alice and Carlos developed, from a deep abiding trust and respect, with a side of friendship, to acknowledging that more had developed, sometimes without them knowing.  And then just facing that moment where you couldn't ignore it any longer, and it was time to go for what you wanted.  While there was a bit of angst and drama, it wasn't drawn out for the sake of being drawn out, and it resolved as I would expect it would in real life.

I LOVED Carlos's patience with Alice.  I loved that he knew not to push it too fast, but that he wouldn't give up.  I loved his optimism in the face of potential obstacles.  I loved how clearly he cared about Alice and was thoughtful over her needs.  I loved that he was charming as can be, but not too much of a dog (though perhaps I would have liked a better resolution with Leticia and Lena).  I loved that he had a multi-faceted personality -- alpha when he needed to be, but happily beta in other aspects of his life.  And I really felt like that juxtaposition was well placed, b/c Ms. Regnery was not afraid to address the gender roles and pressures that men face as well (and in this case, particularly in the latin community).  As a romance reader, we often see the struggles that women face in their professional lives (and I love that), but how often do we see a man deal with criticism for somewhat less ambition, or being happy serving a strong woman.  I don't know if I'm making sense, but I just really loved that.

And on the other side of the coin, I loved Alice's ambition, and her unwavering desire for both a career and a family.  She was such a strong heroine, and someone to be admired.  But I also loved that she needed someone like Carlos to take the reins in their intimate settings, so she could just feel and experience.  They were such a great match.  I kind of appreciated that she was a bit awkward socially, b/c she had spent so much time trying to live up to her father's impossible expectations, and focused on her professional pursuits, that she had let some of her personal relationships slide (like with her sister's).

And that is the crux of why I love Ms. Regnery's Blueberry Lane series.  EVERY SINGLE ONE has a completely different set of characters.  We get to see and fall in love with all types of people, and we get to learn of each of their struggles.  From the shy to the bold, from the family oriented to the career oriented.

Honestly my only problem with this novel is that it *felt* short.  I don't know why.  Maybe it was because I was interrupted in the middle of my reading, and couldn't get back to it for a whole day, and so I fell out of the pacing?  Or maybe b/c I wanted to see more at the end after they were together.  I LOVED the epilogue we got, but a part of me was curious to read the scenes with her sisters when she told them about her new relationship, or at the office once they were back, or again, what happened with Lena (is their relationship strained now?).  It just ended with me wanting a tiny bit more.  Hence my 4 stars instead of more.

So yeah.  It's so nice to read a book and get what you've been missing.  It feeds my reading soul or something.  Can't wait to see what happens with Elizabeth and Jane.

THE BOHEMIAN & THE BUSINESSMAN

In THE BOHEMIAN AND THE BUSINESSMAN the author Katy Regnery returns once more to Blueberry Lane. This is Priscilla Story's book. Priscilla is the one of the five Story sisters, that has always done her own thing. She is the wild child and the biggest disappointment to her father. The meaning of Bohemian is, “A person who has informal and unconventional social habits.” This would fit Priscilla perfectly. She has returned home after moving to France to be by her lover. When that turns into a disaster, she has little choice but to return home. She also returns home with much bigger problems than when she left. Also if her father would find out her problems, than she would be homeless, too.

Shane Olson is a very driven businessman. He also is the right hand man to Douglas Story who is owner and president of Story Imports. He has also been chosen to marry Margaret Story (Priscilla's older sister). It is too bad & sad that her father nor Shane either, has any idea that Margaret is not on board with this “business” arrangement. After overhearing the exchange at dinner, and Margaret's firm “NO!” Then Priscilla starts to plot a plan. It seems Shane needs to marry one of the five Story Sisters, and it just so happens she desperately needs a husband. This same Shane Olson might be the hero to her damsel in distress.

THE DIRECTOR & DON JUAN

In THE DIRECTOR AND DON JUAN, we return once again to Blueberry Lane. It is Book 2 of the Story Sisters and this is Alice's Story!

The book starts with Alice who has worked diligently for five long years at her father's Story Imports Company. She has been at her desk before anyone else in the morning, and still there long after everyone else had gone home. She thought that this would be the year her father would finally reward her with a big promotion. She told her Dad that she had been responsible and dutiful and have given him everything inside her head and heart since the day she graduated from business school. Yet he refused to promote her. She was an associate and would remain an associate.

Having reached her limit, she quit and climbed upon her cubicle desk and announced to all her fellow employees, “I'm starting a new company! And it's called Alice Story Imports! All of you are welcome to come and work for me!” One lone person stepped forward and that was Carlos Vega. He was a dreamer and stepped forward to help Alice down from the desk. So started the team of Alice and Carlos.

Three years pass with Alice struggling to develop her company, sitting in a small office back to back with Carlos. Than new life was breathed into the company by her sister Priscilla and her husband Shane. It now was named Story Sisters Trading Ltd. What hadn't changed was her continued dependence and devotion to Carlos. Both of them wished for more to their relationship, but afraid to cross the line to change it to something else. Even though they both dreamed of a romantic relationship. They were stalled as just friends. The attraction was real, but an age difference of seven years seemed huge. Then there was their work positions making a relationship inappropriate. Love is a hard thing to ignore and can overcome a lot. Those starts a wonderful slow-burn romance! A magical first dance! A fairy-tale first kiss! And just read the book if you want to know more.

The Bohemian and the Business Man, Five Star Review

This had to be one of the hardest reviews I have ever written. I finished this book days ago and still I am having trouble putting my thoughts and feelings into words. I'm struggling to find a way to describe my deep and all consuming love for this story. I am literally speechless...

Katy has a magical way with words that just allows you to feel everything her characters feel.

Shane and Priscilla’s story is beautiful and intoxicating. Their love and happiness is still with me days later. I'm still smiling thinking about Katy’s beautifully scripted world.

Katy again leaves me speechless, breathless and wanting more.

The Director and Don Juan, Four Star Review

There is seriously nothing better than a Katy Regnery story! No matter your mood Katy has the ability to put a smile on your face and lift your spirits. Her words are utterly beautiful!

The Director and Don Juan is another wonderful story in Katy's Blueberry Lane series. It's here we get to really meet Alice Story. Alice is a strong, independent, take no attitude female! She IS female empowerment.

The story takes on a trip to paradise where Alice decides that just maybe she deserves to be loved too.

Carlos and Alice have worked closely for years. In a twist on gender roles, Carlos is Alice's personal assistant, right-hand man. Can he be the man Alice needs?

I loved seeing the little bits of Carlos alpha side... the cultural references breathed new life into the story! The Director and Don Juan was fun, flirty, sexy and refreshing.

Cheers to Katy for another wonderful story! Can't wait to see what you have in store for us next!

Awesome--two great books in one. The Bohemian and the businessman had me rolling in emotion. Gushing, Swooning. Heart beating faster. One of my all time favorites. So much love. So much support. One of my favorite parts--the family dinner at Priscilla's. Lots of fist pumping at that moment.

Priscilla never fit in with her parents' ideas of what a "lady" should be. She was a round peg that they wanted to fit in their idea of a square hole. I can't express how many times I wanted to reach within the pages and slap one of her parents, or both. Two thumbs up to Priscilla for her inner strength. She didn't let her parents or sisters destroy her.

Shane Olson will do anything to make it into an executive chair at Story Imports. That is until Priscilla becomes apart of his life. That man did not know what hit him. What starts out as a business deal becomes so much more. They are so beautiful together. So Amazing. I WANT SHANE!!!

The Director and the Don Juan was another amazing romance from Katy Regnery. If Alice can find love, let herself love there is hope for the rest of us. Alice had been the hard working, dedicated daughter doing everything her father wanted but she couldn't be a son. She would never be in charge unless she walked. She walked and the only one willing to take a risk with her was Carlos Vega.

Alice has a lot to prove and everything to loose. She is risking everything financially, but Carlos is risking his heart.

I loved the first book! It was a good storyline without the usual characters who hide and lie about their feelings for too long. Shane and Priscilla were up front and honest with how they felt as well as what was going on that could have had them fighting, not trusting and running from each other in a very typical romance novel plot. I loved that we weren’t jerked around as readers, the characters were mature and in love enough to actually talk to each other leaving us with a very nice HEA!
The second book was a slower start for me and I was very worried that it would be the complete opposite of the first. Once it got going though it got better and better and while it wasn’t my favorite of the two I was so happy to see more of those honest characters who didn’t hide and run.
Overall it was a really lovely read!

Loved the Prisilla and Shane story in Bohemian and the Business Man. It had me laughing, crying and making me go, hmm at times. It was open, honest and full of ups and downs. Truly loved the story.

The second book in the series, The Director and Don Juan was awesome because it brought me back to my roots. As a Puerto Rican from Brooklyn I loved how you captured the culture of the Puerto Rican Family. Carlos character was truly charming, funny and on point with how Puerto Rican men (most) behave especially when it comes to family and the women they love. I was upset for Alice and her sisters' when it came to dealing with their father. I am so happy the story had them stand up to him and his barbaric parenting ways. It's to bad Elisabeth has not learned her lesson yet. Thank you for bringing some of the Puerto Rican culture into this book and for creating Carlos.

Just okay

This two-book set was just okay. Each book is about a different sister, and each can be read as a standalone. Although nice stories, they are predictable and lack that special aspect that makes a book great.

THE BOHEMIAN AND THE BUSINESSMAN

I wasn't sure I was going to like this at first. It appeared it was going to be predictable and the characters kind of shallow. However, the characters grew on me, they had very good chemistry, and the story had a nice ending. It wasn't the most original story, but held my interest.

Almost 4 stars 🌟🌟🌟.5

THE DIRECTOR AND DON JUAN

This was predictable and not very original. There wasn't much excitement.

Not for me

Disclosure: I only read the first 3% of this book. I decided to keep reading, but there was absolutely nothing in the characters of the characters to keep me reading. I can appreciate having values different from one's family. But I cannot waste my time with people who exploit others or who think it is fun to cause trouble for others. These characters might have grown into decent people by the end, but I was not interested in waiting around long enough to find out

The Story Sisters 2 box set

This was a two really amazing stories about 5 sisters. Each had different ideas about where they wanted their lives to venture into. Priscilla and Shane were the first story main characters. She was pregnant and needed a husband. He wanted to be CEO in the Story company.
The second story was about Alice wanting to be CEO of her fathers company but he wasn’t letting one of his daughters in that Position.

Ok

Quick easy reads.
There were a too many pages of long sex scenes and too little of the plot. Characters were likable, just needed more.. My first try of this author bought as a deal on Book Bub.
