A hexed wizard. A reformed succubus. LA’s supernatural underground will never be the same … UCLA sophomore François Lemieux had thought his biggest challenge would be scoring a summer internship. Everything changes, though, when a trio of vampires tries to run his car off the road. He’s saved by a mysterious, heavily armed girl named Cassie Chu, but his troubles are far from over. It turns out Cassie is a succubus who works for the Supernatural Intelligence Agency. She informs François that he’s a wizard who was hexed at birth to prevent him from casting spells. If that weren’t enough, evil forces in a magical underground he never knew existed are out for his blood. To survive, François partners up with the beautiful yet eccentric Cassie to learn the ins and outs of magic. He barely has a chance to study the basics when a prominent alchemist goes missing and a destructive power falls into the wrong hands. If François and Cassie can’t track down the alchemist in time, the new world he’s grown to love may soon come to a bitter end … True Magic is a fun, fast-paced new adult urban fantasy novel. Quick, fun read. Enjoyed the writing style and wit.
This book was a quick, fun read. From page 1, the book is well written with wit, creative pros and humor. As a book that would fall into the YA genre, this writing style and humor bridged the gap for me and helped me thoroughly enjoy the book. In full candor, while well thought out and I'm sure a crowd pleaser for some, there were elements of the plot and magic system that got a touch dry and technical for me. That said, irrespective of the plot or mechanics, the author's talent, time and intentionality in creating genuine and humorous dialogue and inner commentary put him on my "favorite list" of authors I'll be tracking.
A well written and entertaining book and I can't wait to read the next in the series. I enjoyed the way the writer used the TV 'talking to the camera' style of writing
The story kept my interest, main characters were good. A little bit silly in places but the scooting around through secret doors etc. was well done. I will look for the next in the series.
The story was awesome, the character genuine and funny! Too bad it was this short, though. In this book we had the story in the view point of François, in the next it would be good to have Cassie's one.
A few pages in & I was hooked. A great story with lots of twists & turns and likeable characters. Would love to see a sequel to see what other adventures they get up to. Highly recommended.
I was fascinated from the first page. I couldn't put it down until it was finished. Great writing and Mr Sims totally had you wrapped in the story throughout the book. My first book by this author, but not my last.
This is a hilarious book. The main character is almost too stupid for words, but makes up for it by being stupidly fearless. This was a great adventure.
