THE FIRST SIGNS that I might like writing -- and that I might be slightly competitive -- appeared when my year two (or first grade) teacher, Mrs. Holland, asked my class to write and illustrate our day. Mine read like this: “The Red team beat the Blue team, 1 to nil. And I won.” The next 47 entries covered my exploits on the soccer pitch while growing up in Ipswich, England.

In South Carolina as a teenager, my dad told me that I could get paid to watch sports provided I could write about it. Sounded easy enough and by the time I was 16, I landed a job at my town’s daily newspaper and had a column on Major League Baseball players from our area. I also covered my first riot there at a sporting event -- and it’s safe to say I was smitten with journalism.

After graduating from one of the best journalism schools in the country, I took a job as a sports editor in South Georgia and learned firsthand about the passion of high school sports in rural America. I thought I knew before, but I didn’t. This was another world.

I also had the opportunity to cover major sporting events like the Olympic Games, the World Series, the Super Bowl, and the Final Four. It was a thrill!

But nothing was as thrilling to me as uncovering the truth in investigative assignments. I once broke a story about a prominent southern football team’s NCAA violation -- and found out the violating coach had committed suicide only a few months earlier. The story won a national writing award and stoked my desire to write about these issues. It made me realize that the sports world was just another fantastic backdrop for drama.

After writing non-fiction books with athletes, for athletes, and ghost writing for many others, I decided to enter the world of fiction writing. It had been something I wanted to do but never found the time. So, I made the time--and had a blast in the process.

I’m not out to become the next Faulkner or Hemingway -- I’m just out to tell a good story. I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I enjoy writing them!

Ch-ch-ch-changes!

With another enemy defeated, Brady Hawk still can’t find time to catch his breath. Karif Fazil, leader of Al Hasib, is planning a major terrorist attack on American soil within weeks of the Presidential election. It’s up to Brady Hawk and Alex Duncan to stop him with minimal support from Acting President Noah Young, who is facing a tough battle for President against billionaire James Peterson, who may not be as squeaky clean as he appears.

One of the better entries in the series (and they’re all good), this story is pure adrenaline. Reading the series in order, the reader knows the personalities of the main characters by now, so non-stop action takes precedence here. Hawk and Fazil’s ever-changing hunter/hunted chase jumps from the Middle East to the East Coast and back again, with the stakes rising at every turn. It’s a fast read that will leave you breathless.

HARD TARGET by R.J.Patterson. Brady Hawk 11
Hawk is in Columbia to stop the sell of missiles to Al Hasib, Firestorm and Blunt had been informed after receiving the intel. Fazil was to be captured,, a black op that didn’t go well. Fazil assets have been cut off, so harder to capture him now. The stakes have been raised he kidnapped Colton his plane and now millions in cash, to be delivered by Hawk. A tense mission to.get Colton back alive, and capture Fazil, and stopping the money. A mind game, and Patterson has excel in this plot, of how the moves are made. It’s story of characters we love Hawk, Alex and Blunt, the mission we can’t stop reading about till the end. Another must read, they are all great and readers will love this adrenaline plot.

Brady Hawk is in the Middle East trying to pinpoint the current hideout of Karif Fazil, leader of Al Hasib. The terrorist, Fazil, had managed to steal an underwater weapons system from Colton Industries. This means big trouble somewhere. Hawk gets into the hideout but is captured by Fazil but manges to escape with some help. In the meantime, Alex is trying to help and Blunt is arrested by the FBI. That's nowhere near the end of this book. It's full of action and suspense and kept me up reading until the wee hours of the morning. Another awesome thriller by RJ Patterson. I'll definitely be reading more of his books.

300 Terrorists in New York City for the Veterans Day Parade and no one knew about it.

Wow what a great read. One of the best at doing what it takes to help the government stay a head of all the Terry attempts bro bring us down again on our own soil. The team does well working together. Only when they branch off do they get in trouble. Brady gets himself in trouble by not waiting for Alex to catch up. He gets captured and gets beat up pretty bad which sets off a chain of events that won't let you put this down. You will love this.
