Though they have written two No 1 bestselling vegetarian cookbooks, David and Stephen Flynn, the twins behind the Happy Pear cafés and food business, know it can be challenging to juggle everything and still feel inspired! And being busy dads themselves they also know the pressure of getting delicious healthy meals on the table every day.
So Recipes for Happiness is very close to their hearts. And it does what it says on the cover: it is crammed with recipes to make you happier - including a huge section of economical easy dinners that can be rustled up in 15 minutes (chickpea tikka masala, thai golden curry, one-pot creamy mushroom pasta); gorgeous hearty dishes (goulash, Greek summer stew, an ingenious one-pot lasagne that's cooked the hob); a selection of plant-based alternatives to family favourites (burgers, hotdogs, nuggets, kebabs), and irresistible treats(summer fruit bakewell tart, double choc brownie cake).
For nearly 15 years David and Stephen's mantra has been Eat More Veg!. They have seen fads come and go and they know that what works - for themselves, their families and the thousands of people who eat the Happy Pear way. Cook from Recipes for Happiness and you too will definitely be well on the way to making your life healthier and happier!

This was just a short sampler of recipes, but what I did sample sounded scrumptious. It's very hard with a sampler book to get a true feel of the cookbook and whether I would use it. However what I have seen I liked. I just wish I had more than a few recipies.
If I had more recipies to read it would have been a 5☆
I am definitely on the lookout for buying the full version as I think this book will have huge potential.
From what I viewed the recipies look simple, easy to follow and affordable and more importantly delicious.
I love baking and cooking and am always on the lookout for new cookbooks. I have rheumatoid arthritis so I'm always looking for new recipies to potentially help my weight and symptoms.
I am not a vegetarian but love experimenting with new ideas. The happy Pear- recipies for happiness certainly will appeal to all cooks looking to try something fresh and healthy.
This book is definitely worth a buy! Happy cooking!
A very nice vegan cookbook. Lovely photos and every recipe has a photo of the end product, something I definitely want and find helpful in a cook book.
A good variety of recipes, quick snacks, packed lunch options, cakes, biscuits, chocolates and pickles. There were few if any recipes that I could cook without specifically shopping for several ingredients, I tend to use what I have, what I grow, what I can buy that isn't too expensive. I tried several recipes but altered the ingredients to what I had to use. A nice book to look through and get inspiration although I don't come across anything particularly new to me or innovative but a nice collection of heathly and tasty recipes.
This was a sample section of the full book from netgalley. It's full of amazing meals, beautiful pictures and everything looks so simple and easy to make. This is the first time I've seen on of their books but will definitely be looking at buying the full version of this.
Of course I will give this a FIVE STARS .. these are my favorite people in the world, they turned me into a vegan chef and most of my family loves their recipes .. check out their YouTube channel The Happy Pear .. it's AMAZING :D
A great book, read this front to back in two days. Loads of good advice on food, eating well with more plant based - full of straightforward options on brunch, quick dinners and bigger dinners. Light and easy going reading, with some things on lifestyle, exercise, and mind, that make this an inspiring book all round. The two guys from Ireland come across well and authentic.
Conveys the zest of the Flynn brothers' YouTube videos and steers a sure course in accessible vegan cooking, avoiding long lists of hard to find (and afford) specialist ingredients. Quite a variety of suggestions, perhaps especially so for those avoiding meat for environmental or ethical reasons (but might be missing various aspects of the eating experience) than those who never really liked it anyway.
Some of the wider 'lifestyle' aspects might not stand up to too much scrutiny but more responsible and more flexible than many other books in this area.
The Happy Pear boys describe themselves as 'two plant-powered twins', which is kind of annoying, but apart from that they seem pretty sound.
My husband got me this book because I have been delving into plant-based cooking and eating for the best part of a year now (plus I have an earlier book from The Happy Pear and put it to good use). This new book isn't just about healthy, nutritional eating; it's about making you feel good. The boys talk about the benefits of yoga, mindfulness, movement (exercise) and daily swims in the sea in creating a happy, healthy and confident life.
The recipes are great, ranging from breakfast snacks to soups, lunches for littles to super quick dinners. There is a section on meat substitutes and fermentation, as well as eating healthy when you're on the go and, of course, the essential Sweet Treats chapter.
The recipes aren't complicated at all and I can say that I have made at least twenty of them at this point and each has come out as good as the last. And they aren't time consuming either so, win win!
A really good recipe book for any family's kitchen, particularly those who are curious about a plant-based diet and healthy eating ideas. A great place to start!
Fantastic easy tasty recipes. Even if you aren't vegetarian or vegan, this is an excellent buy. Easy step by step instructions with clear colour illustrations, nothing too daunting and most of the ingredients you probably already have in your cupboard at home. The recipes carefully tailored to people wanting to give up meat, fish and dairy for the first time. Have just made the One Pot Creamy Tomato Pasta and it was a hit for my teenage meat-eating sons! The easy three-bean sweet potato and coconut curry is next! Highly recommend - five stars!
I got a taster of the full cookbook from NetGalley containing 6 recipes. I already own and LOVE their first two cookbooks so I had a good idea I would like this one too. Going by the taster it looks like this book will have more variety than the first two which had a lot of curries in them. I love curry but like other stuff too 😉 This book has delicious recipes for vegan french toast and soda bread which I loved. Soda bread is very popular in Ireland so I loved finding a vegan take on it. I think this book really shows their growth and confidence in making new delicious vegan recipes for everyone and, of course, promoting a happy and healthy lifestyle.
The Happy Pear has a wonderful YouTube channel with many recipe videos. The dishes they make are great and they are very entertaining. Check them out here https://www.youtube.com/user/happypea...
Recipes for Happiness is a vegan cookery book by David & Stephen Flynn, better known as The Happy Pear.
This taster recipe book has six easy to follow recipes. Included is French Toast and Soda Bread from the Brekkie 'n' Brunch section; Ultimate 15 minute burgers and Mac 'n' cheese, from I can't believe its not.... chapter. Also included is One-pot creamy tomato pasta and Easy three-bean sweet potato & coconut curry.
Each recipe comes with excellent instructions and lovely colour photography.
I received this book from netgalley in return for a honest review.
I love the happy pear and I must say that I was surprised to see that the recipes we got to preview were actually very normal! This is a very good thing by the way.
I made the creamy tomato pasta and the soda bread and both were absolutely delicious and have been added to our menu plan at home.
I can't wait to read the full cookbook because if all the recipes are like these I can see it being a very well used book!
This is a lifestyle tome. There are some lovely veg-based recipes along with a 2 week re-boot to lose weight and kick start a health life style. The book is about the twins philosophy of happy living as well as happy food and includes information on exercise and meditation. You can easily buy it for the recipes but it’s an easy and engaging read and might just change your life....
I loved this book, it has really encouraged me to eat more veg and less meat, recipes are easy to follow with easily sourced ingredients. This book would encourage anyone to swap some of their meaty meals with vegetarian ones and have fun at the same time. I can see this being a well thumbed/used book in any kitchen.
My favourite. I found i had so many of the ingredients in my kitchen for lots of the recipies, interesting, appealing and practical (as well as having gorgeous pictures of the food). It's more than a cookbook though, its about contemporary healthy eating and a happy life and damn it i love the handstand section - why not!!!
Wonderful taster (no pun intended!) to this vegan/vegetarian cookbook. Recipes are clear and simple. I had most or the store cupboard essentials so easy to get going. Interesting take on black bean burgers and sweet potato and coconut curry.
💕🍐LOVE the Flynn brothers!! Their YouTube videos always put a smile on my face! Excellent plant based recipes that are so easy to make. Loads of helpful advice to transitioning to a healthier vegan lifestyle.
Recipes for Happiness is a must-read cook book for people who believe in healthier and happier life. Touching across a number of cuisines, you will love the recipes, 2-week health reboot and plant-based eating propaganda for a better you.
As with all of there books, filled with great recipes. Easy to follow and tasty. It’s quite nice as many of their recipes can be found on YouTube too, so you can watch and read.
I love this cookbook the more I use it. The one recipe I can't master yet is anything involving coconut cream being turned to something resembling whipped cream. I'll keep trying.
This is lovely colourful collection of recipes for vegans. It is full of your usual favourites such as French toast and macaroni cheese but with a vegan spin. Lovely to support a some Irish lads who certainly know how to cook.
The burger and the soda bread recipe looks top notch, simple and clear instructions, I'm looking forward to cook them at the weekend. Love the pictures too, can't wait for publication day. Thank you!
Delighted to preview Recipes for Happiness. This looks set to be every bit as fantastic as the first two Happy Pear books. Cannot wait to get my hands on the book!
