This book had me at the blurb. I'm a sucker for a tear jerker and emotional second chance romance. The more it makes me hurt, the better. I'm a romance masochist that way. Unfortunately, as much as I adore this author's writing, this book fell entirely flat for me.
The story was predictable and almost formulaic. It had a silly misunderstanding that could have been resolved with one conversation that was stretched out for the entirety of the book. While I can excuse the mistakes these two made as teenagers, as two grown adults I kept waiting for them to finally get their shit together. The whole "secret" was mostly eye roll enduring for me. It wasn't shocking, but more ridiculous. All of this drama over something so silly. All these years wasted over something that could have been resolved in one conversation. Perhaps that was the intent, but misunderstandings that stretch for an entire book happens to be one of my huge pet peeves, so I never clicked with it.
The main problem I had with the book was the entirely convenient and predictable plot devices. It read more like a soap opera for me. Where I wanted angst, I got mere drama, and that's just not my cuppa.
Beyond the issues I have, I do have to say that the story still kept me engaged enough to keep reading. I truly felt the connection between Frankie and Cole, and while I wanted to slap them for the decisions they made, I was still rooting for them.

This one hurts. Mostly cause I was really looking forward to it and well it disappointed me greatly. You all know how much I love my second chance stories but this one was not for me. Again, it could be a case of it’s me and not the book.
First off, this one is extra OTT dramatic. So much drama, so many “secrets”, big misunderstandings that could’ve been resolved earlier are just dragged and dragged. The entire secret was so silly, and this super smart heroine, is the silliest of them all. She listens to no one and no explanations, and she sounds like a teenager most of the book, which is a contradiction to her supposedly strong, lawyer, prosecutor persona. Also the plots are mega convenient, everything conveniently clicks, especially the whole side story with the fiancé, total cop out. Another thing that bothered me to no end is the faulty timeline and the fact that when they broke up, she was only 19 and a freshman at college, so still had 5 more years of schooling to go (unless it took her less, but wasn’t explained) yet 10 years later she’s some mega accomplished lawyer with years and years of experience, in both a private firm and public sector. Anyway, I just wish authors would tighten their timelines better, I know the typical reader doesn’t give a damn, but when your reader has a legal background it’s a complete turn off. Anyway, this was a rollercoaster of drama and more drama that reached its peak with the biggest twist of all at 83%. The heroine has been whining and hurt the entire book only to find out that her secret was way worse than his stupid secret. What she did to him is unforgivable, if I was him, I would get myself a really good lawyer and I would dump her for good. After that, I just couldn’t enjoy anything else in the book. I actually wished they wouldn’t have ended up together.

Holy Batman People! This one... God.. Fault lines was everything I wanted to read in second chance romance novel. There is truly something to be said about any author that can captivate you from the very first paragraph. I was hooked. I devoured this book! I love this book!
Fault Lines was definitely ONE of the mostly blissfully beautiful frustrating romance novels I have read this year. You could feel the Connection and love between Frankie and Cole, and you couldn't help but pray that they get back together and actually 'make' it to the finish line.
I hope you guys can give this one a read because it is such a beautiful heartbreaking love story of love and sacrifice.

A beautiful, heart wrenching, second-chance romance that was PURE ANGSTY GOODNESS! Secrets, lies, deception, and betrayal…just when you think there isn’t a happily ever after in sight, Ms. Shea works her magic and gives us one that we will never forget! FAULT LINES will be a tough read on your mind, but a fulfilling one for your heart and soul.
With a prologue that will tear you apart and an epilogue that will completely melt your heart, everything in between was romance magic! Frankie and Cole had this dynamic that just pulled you in and left you breathless. Written in a dual POV, we get inside the minds of both complex characters and the feelings that they experience end up washing over you with so much intensity. You can’t help but to FEEL right alongside them. I think Rebecca Shea has always been a master at this. She brings out so many emotions out of me, I can’t help but to experience the power of them all.
I absolutely LOVED Frankie and Cole, together and individually, even though I wanted to scream at them on multiple occasions. I wanted to pull them apart at times, and I wanted to push them together at others. I think the thing I loved about this romance the most was the fact that Frankie’s hurt ran so deep that this wasn’t a quick resolution love story. The pain and hurt and betrayal was palpable at the beginning of this book and I wanted to hold Frankie and cry along with her…take away some of her pain. The fact that this was a slow-burn second chance romance was addicting to me. I know it might not be the same for some, but it just shows me that this is a romance worth reading, and worth hurting over.
All in all, Rebecca Shea broke my heart and pieced it back together, all in just under 300 glorious, painful, and beautiful pages. She impresses me more and more with each new release, and I can’t wait to see what she gifts us with next. If you haven’t dug into a Rebecca Shea romance, FAULT LINES is a FANTASTIC start for you! Angsty, sexy, emotional — a complete page-turner, for sure!

I've never read anything by Rebecca Shea before, but when I got the opportunity to review this title I jumped on it. One of the reasons, yes, the beautiful cover, but the blurb seemed like something I would totally love. Second chance romance is my crack!I think this was a good sampling of the author's writing and although it's a bit more angsty than I was in the mood to read, it's a testament to how intrigued she could keep me in the unfolding events and back story that I gobbled this up quite fast.
This is a classic second chance story where the high school sweethearts and lifetime friends had a huge falling out and one left to pursue a bigger and better life. Frankie (our heroine) finds herself living a life of success in the big city. She's a great lawyer, living a fast paced life she thought she always wanted and has and equally successful and gorgeous fiance. Things get a bit shaky with one phone call from the ex that broke her heart to tell her about her mother's health declining and she has to go back. Back to that small town that destroyed her once already and back to seeing the man responsible for it.
There were a lot of things about this story that I liked. You could still feel the connection and chemistry between Frankie and Cole and I was reading and dying to find out what really happened (because I wasn't too happy with the reason we "know" of at the beginning of the book). My one complaint was that reveal. When the reason becomes evident I was a bit annoyed because I thought it was all so stupid. Ten years of heartache that to me where wasted.
So while I found the reason for the hurt, and the ultimate resolution, a bit lackluster I still enjoyed reading this story. The characters and setting where great for this trope and it was an enjoyable and fast read.

Once again - another book that I enjoyed while reading, but it's one that I don't find myself remembering in a short time or wanting to go back and re-read because it was that damn good. And it's these reviews that I hate the most writing.
I love Rebecca and her books - she writes beautiful stories. And while I am reading, I am so into the story and the characters and how everything pans out. But once it's over, I move on and forget about it in a few weeks. :/ UGH
Rebecca gives us a story on second chances. Frankie moved out of town after her freshman year of college and hasn't looked back since. She's forced to return back 10 years later when her mom's health is failing. And she hopes that while she is back in town she doesn't run into the one person who made her flee all those years ago.
Cole made the hardest decision when he had Frankie believe a lie that forced her to leave their hometown. He has not been the same man since but has chosen to try and forget Frankie in booze and women. But he's also tried to become a better man by rebuilding his small hometown in the process along with expanding his father's business.
Cole knows that Frankie is returning home but doesn't expect to be able to make any amends for their past. But they both are holding and hiding so much back from one another that tension between them is bound to snap. And snap it does.
As I said, I really enjoyed this story as I read it. The story line is sort of played out but Rebecca brings it some fresh air but adding in her own style and letting things play out naturally. Cole and Frankie were inseparable growing up and you can tell that time hasn't changed that connection. I truly loved that it wasn't these two apart for like 90% of the book and then poof, HEA. No, Rebecca has them easing into the start of something new about 60% and building that strong foundation they once had. Yes, there are still some road blocks thrown up I loved that we got to see them slowly achieve that HEA, like life normally is.
As I said before, I liked the book. There wasn't anything that wow'd me but it wasn't a bad book either. It was just a really nice and enjoyable read. There were some small angsty parts but nothing overly dramatic and it all worked out in the end.

There’s something to be said about an author who can create an emotion response and draw you into the story from the very first paragraph. Rebecca Shea had absolutely no problem doing exactly that straight out of the gate with Fault Lines. Frankie’s emotionally-fraught starts with a bang and continues to drop bombshells until the very end of the story. This one is a rollercoaster of emotions and I’m glad I buckled up for the ride.
Frankie has been through the wringer most of her life. A misunderstanding (granted, it was designed for maximum impact) in her late teens forces her to leave home and never look back. She pushes herself to become the best lawyer she can be, until a family emergency brings her back to the one place she never wanted to return. Of course, she has to see the neighbor/cheating boyfriend she left in her dust while she is there and there’s no hiding from him while she is there.
Cole has been in love with Frankie for most of her life. They shared secrets and dreams and Frankie had big plans to get them out of their one stoplight town. After it all comes crashing down, Cole retreats into work and builds a real life for himself. Unfortunately, it doesn’t feel complete without Frankie there to share his success.
Fault Lines is an angsty and drama-filled story of miscommunications, bad decisions, secrets, lies, and what-could-have-beens. Some of the scenarios were resolved a bit too neatly for me, but I enjoyed Frankie and Cole’s story of forgiveness and learning to move on with their lives. The secondary characters also added a nice layer to the story and give us some insight into the past of Frankie and Cole.
I’ve never read a story by Rebecca Shea, but after reading Fault Lines, I will definitely be looking into her backlist. Fault Lines is perfect for lovers of small-town romances, second-chance romances, and angst-lovers!

I’ve been waiting on the edge of my seat for Rebecca Shea to finish writing this book, and she did not disappoint! It’s an emotional second-chance romance with a happily ever after. There’s nothing better, in my eyes. I loved the characters, although I do wish Cole would have had to fight a little harder to win Frankie back. I know she loved him, and there was no way they could NOT be together, but I wish she would have made him work a little harder after how badly she was hurt. And then to find out her secret later? Oh, man. These people had to overcome some serious hurt to work toward a future together. Overall, I loved the story. AND DID YOU SEE THAT COVER?! Top fave!!

She didn't know why he did what he did, but it caused her to run away from their hometown and abandon her family to hide from the pain she still wasn't over. But when a family emergency brings her back home, she's forced to face why she left and how to reconcile the past from the present.
I wanted to love this story. It was obvious these two still harbored deep feelings for the other, but I couldn't understand with those feeling why they let 10 years go by. Frankie's hurt made sense, but to fall so quickly back into those feelings just let me wonder why'd they wait.
Fans of Rebecca Shea will love this book, but my questioning of why took away from the reconnection to fully enjoy the essence of the story.

What did you like best about this story?
I loved Frankie and Cole’s relationship. They had a beautiful connection when they were teens, a lovely relationship and big dreams for the future, but one day everything was over. Both their hearts were broken and almost their lives, too. Ten years later, they needed to face the truth of what happened in the past, accept their decisions and move on, because the connection was still there, also the love but there was also hurt and sadness and so much regret, so they had to decide if it was worth leaving the past behind and start over. *sad face*
Which character was your favorite and why?
Both main characters were great, with great qualities and flaws too, every aspect of their personalities made them complex and easy to love and understand each and everyone of their decisions, but my favorite character was in fact Cole’s best friend Carter. He was the kind of friend who was in the good and in the bad moments.
He picked my drunk ass up off the floor more times than I can count. He drove me home. He punched me in the face when I'd fuck up, but mostly he was just there for me. Whether it was his silent presence at the shop, or listening to me bitch like a little girl, he was always there for me, and I’m grateful.
Side note: I am very used to series of books with spin-offs of every secondary character, that I wish Carter had his own story too. And maybe with Faith, Frankie’s sister, as his love interest. But this is just wishful thinking :D
Would you recommend this book to a friend? If so, why?
Absolutely. I didn’t rate it with 5 stars just because angsty books are not my thing, but hey, I survived the heartbreak in the very first chapter, the angsty reunion of Frankie and Cole, the revelation of their secrets and every single tear they shared over the consequences of their decisions ten years ago, and I didn’t quit reading it because the storyline was really interesting, greatly developed and the writing was well paced and beautiful. So, of course I would totally recommend it.

Frances Calloway hasn’t been back to her hometown since the day after her first love, her best friend, broke her heart and shattered her dreams. My biggest frustration with this book was the lack of communication between the two main characters. When push comes to shove, they are both runners. Frankie’s running started the whole Cole seems like a stable guy, ready to stand his ground, but even he had several key moments where he left or cut a conversation off without getting to the real issue.
The side characters built a rich world. Frankie’s family, Cole’s best friend, they were all there watching when Cole and Frankie fell in love, and when they imploded, and they could all see things that Cole and Frankie were too involved to see.
But this story moved quickly, despite my frustration. These two had a lot to sort through, particularly because Frankie had avoided home and Cole for so many years, which kept the pace moving. And as they worked through their problems, I loved the resolutions they found together.

Love, lies, betrayal and second chances
Frankie left her life behind, but when something brings her back to the town she thought she left behind for good, she knew she would have to face her past which included Cole Ryan.
There was so much emotion I felt while reading this story, from sadness, to love and to anger. I felt like I could connect with both the main characters, but I did find myself finding one person in the wrong more than the other and it might shock people when I say it was Frankie.

I say this every time about Rebecca Shea's work- the feels. I know I'm not prego. It's not that time of the month either. But no matter how hard I tried I could not fight the tears. Tears of joy, despair, longing...Tears of hopelessness, pain, loss, and heartbreak (not in that order either!)
Fault Lines is such a descriptive way to explain this book. Just wow!
There are some incredible quotes that would explain my vague comments but they need to be read in context in order to really feel them. Sigh.
Love isn't always pleasant. Life isn't always fair. It seems these two know that fairly well. With friends and family helping them out, maybe they will learn to move on from the hurt...maybe not.

"This is how we will end. This is how we will crumble and dissolve, and my heart drops to my stomach."
Hopefully this is the beginning of a series, there are a few more souls in this book that need their stories told.

But some secrets and lies have more weight than others. Can they be forgiven?
This is an emotional, passionate story of first love, second chances, and new beginnings. It is told in dual points of view that was critical due to their secrets. The writing style flowed well and the characters had depth. I really felt for both of the characters and all they had gone through. Their connection and chemistry was intense and their bond had a solid foundation despite the huge crack he created with his actions.

The title of this book has so much meaning. So much is broken, shifted, left in a new place, and altered from it's original form by the time you finish this book.
There are so many things, so many layers, to this book and all of them focus on Cole, Frankie and choices that they made 10 years ago, as young adults. Things come full circle, some things are resolved, and some things are set into a new normal, while not resolved they are in a place that works for everyone involved.
I liked a lot of things about this, and I really liked the character of Frankie. I just had a hard time relating to Cole and I was not ever sure if I really liked him. There was a lot of the story that hinged on the things he has done in the past, and I was not ever totally sold on a belief in the actions and that things would have worked out in the way they did at the end.
Was it unrealistic? Maybe...but life tends to be that way, and things happen that you would never believe were happening to you. And, then they become normal, the fault lines stop looking like things that have shifted out of place and look like something that has always been that way.
Overall, I did enjoy this title and I do recommend it.

I’m not sure what it is about second chances and friends to lovers, but they go together like peanut butter and jelly. They make me feel all the gooeyness that contemporary romance offers and it seems like these tropes might be the flavors du jour, which I have no problem with.
Quick recap: childhood friends-turned-lovers Frankie and Cole are ripped apart by consequence and reunite ten years later. They’ve both moved on with their lives yet a piece of their hearts still live in the past. Frankie’s life is turned upside down and Cole is there to catch her, but can they rekindle what they walked away from a decade earlier?
The storyline reads like a lot of many of the second chance/friends to lovers stories out there, it follows a bit of a formula, however it is the characters that make this stand out. I liked both Frankie and Cole from the beginning, and as I said earlier, I am a sucker for these plotlines. I was drawn in from the first page and the dual, first person POV gave both sides of the story, which I appreciated. I had a hard time putting it down and couldn’t help but root for Frankie and Cole. Even with the predictability, it didn’t make the story any less enjoyable.
This is my first read by this author and definitely not my last!

I have really enjoyed everything I have read by this author, but this one was meh. The hero lacked depth and was quite the stereotype and the heroine, oh the heroine was a hot mess.
Soooo a woman who works as a prosecutor in L.A. county turns into a teary mess when she sees her long lost love who betrayed her? I really do loathe weak heroines. Her mother had it right when she said to fall apart in private and keep your chin up in public. Way to go Mama!
There was just not a whole lot of not so excited me.

Fault Lines is a second chance romance complete with angst and some emotional tugs on the heart. Rebecca certainly knows how to deliver everything you'd expect in this particular trope. And therein lies my problem. It's a good story, no doubt, but there is also nothing in particalar that makes this read stand apart from the rest.
This is a well written yet predictable read and I know there are plenty of readers who eat up this kind of book. Not me. I needs stories and authors that dare to color outside of the lines a bit more.

Rebecca Shea never ceases to amaze me. I have loved her as an author for years now and honestly I think Fault Lines is her best book to date. I didn’t want to put it down. I was consumed, enthralled, addicted, whatever word you want to use to describe it but I kept my kindle in my hands when I was cooking, while I was on my treadmill, when I was letting my dogs outside, you get the picture. Make sure you have nothing important planned because if you are anything like me, you will be doing the exact same thing.
I am not going to go really in depth with this review, when I very easily could. The reason is I think this is one you have to experience, and it is an experience, you have to feel the emotions and you will FEEL a LOT. Cole and Frankie will rip your heart apart and then slowly mend it back together. Christ remember those feelings I just mentioned? Well I am crying again. Thanks Rebecca Shea, I swear I need happy pills after reading your books just so my emotions level back out to normal level. Trust me that is a good thing.

I was hooked on this book from the moment I dove into the prologue. My heart was beating wildly and I felt like my breath was taken away from me. My heart ached within moments of meeting Frankie. I knew her story was going to be epic and could not wait to explore it further.
Fault Lines is an incredibly well written and spellbinding second chance romance. This is the kind of book that just digs its claws into your heart and you would be hopeless to stop it. It is the kind of book that consumes you and will leave your eyes glued to the pages. Frankie and Cole had a friendship and love that most would give anything for. But one mistake, one moment in time, had the power to change everything. When Frankie left home all those years ago, she never thought she’d come back. Ten years have past and she’s made a nice life herself. She’s got everything she could want, but her heart has never forgotten the man that truly owns it. The chemistry and connection was still there, but the pain and heartache was great. So much hurt and damage had been done. But, just being around these two, I had hope. Hope that the truth would come out. Hope that their love was strong enough. Hope that time would in fact heal all wounds.

Any author who writes a man to cry is gold in my book. It speaks to the emotional impact of the plot. We women, in general, cry all the time, for a variety of reasons, I did several time whilst reading Fault Lines. But men, society teaches us that men shouldn’t cry, that they are weak if they do. Nothing about the men, characters or plot in this story are weak. It’s rare for me to set a large chuck of time, about 4 hours in a day to read a book but after only 20% I decided I had to.
Normally I’d right about the hotness of a book but this stories is more that the sum of its sexy scenes, the key work is emotion.
This book will have you swapping sides, jumping from one point of view in the case to the other but ultimately the emotional impact will lead you to the same outcome as the two main characters.
Well played Ms Shea, well played indeed.
Normally I’d right about the hotness of a book but this stories is more that the sum of its sexy scenes, the key work is emotion.
This book will have you swapping sides, jumping from one point of view in the case to the other but ultimately the emotional impact will lead you to the same outcome as the two main characters.

First I would like to say, This was a great book! Frances is a successful attorney who has sworn she would never go back to her hometown of Crescent Ridge, not wanting to see her ex boyfriend, the love of her life who broke her heart so long ago. Until the day something happens and she is forced to return.
Cole broke Frances heart long ago and has regretted it ever since. He has never been able to find anyone that even comes close to Frances.
I loved the characters and the story line. It pulls you and keeps a hold of you until it’s done. This was one of those books that kept me up late reading, with so much emotion throughout. It’s a story of love and loss and second chances. I would definitely recommend!
