Rarely have I been as transported and immersed into new worlds than I was in The Last Elixir. Fans of the magical travels in Neil Gaiman’s Stardust will love this adventure. From the first page, this book invites you into a whimsical and vibrant world, rich with harmonious beauty, but danger lurks just below the surface—and when it flares, the action does not disappoint.

Shenna, the main character, is clever and kind with just a touch of adorable awkwardness that makes her feel authentic and relatable as a YA protagonist. The elemental magic she encounters on her travels. reminiscent of Avatar: The Last Airbender, creates a page-turning mix of exhilarating mystery and thrilling tension.

The ending left me in awe, and it’s worth the full five stars—maybe more. Without giving too much away, Muree’s artful use of foreshadowing and ability to convey strong emotions made for a jaw-dropping, fulfilling, and beautiful conclusion. I can’t wait for the next installment.

The Last Elixir by Ryan Muree is the first book in the series of the same name. It is written in third-person and is from main character Shenna's point-of-view. This is a fantasy story with well-done world building and an interesting magic system. The book is well-written with a likable cast of heroes and easy to hate villains. It flows well and the quest driven plot is easy to follow and keeps you reading all the way to the end.

Shenna and her friends all have unique personalities that make them feel like they could be real people. Shenna is a young woman with a strong moral code, her empathy and kind-nature fuel her desire to help not only her own people but all whom she comes across in need. She is driven by the need to save her people and this determination keeps her going even through the hardest obstacles. Izan is an honorable young man with a playful personality; he has his own deep seeded sense of duty and has dedicated himself to saving as many lives as he can. Ezra is a kind and optimistic young woman hoping to see the world. Desota is Ezra little brother, a curious and energetic boy with a kind heart. Raddox is prone to exaggeration and can be easily agitated, but he is trustworthy and has his heart in the right place.

The interaction between Shenna and her friends is easy and believable, and the back-and-forth between her and Izan is as funny as it is adorable.

The plot of this story is quest based. Shenna is on a quest to find The Last Elixir, the only thing her people believe will be able to save them from the Necrophaise. Behind the overlaying quest, there is also the danger of Aramil and her Liberators, a group of renegades slowly enslaving the whole of Revellis and consuming all who oppose them. Shenna and her companions must race across Revellis in search of a plant Shenna believes holds the key to The Last Elixir even as they are chased by the Liberators.

I loved this book. I found my emotions running the gamut as I read. And I can't wait to put myself through even more when the next book comes out.

Recommended to fans of: fantasy, quest stories, well-done world-building, and strong female characters

A fantasy tale that will capture you in its claws and not let you go until the very last page.
Shenna is an occhemist, or better to say still a trainee with her level one standing, in potion making. She is able to read the plants excellently, even without seeing them prior in her life. When her dear friend Colter returns from Revellis bloodied and hurt after unsuccessful mission, seeing him die in front of her eyes make Shenna volunteer for the next quest. Looking for the Last Elixir that will save her people from fatal disease and still putting herself together after stinging betrayal of her mentor, Shenna dives deep into the dangerous land of Revellis, determined to succeed where others failed.
This adventurous tale full of friendship and betrayal, trust and doubts, and a dusting of romance, is funny, suspenseful and dramatic at once. Whirling emotions collide with action, fighting scenes, and violence of war, ill intentions, and rays of hope and kindness. This story is so full of everything I can hardly describe it without revealing too much of the plot. With some really surprising twists and amazing pace, this is a book that will keep you up long in the night if you start reading at an unfortunate time. I devoured it in one sit, enjoying its wonders and following the brave, charming characters everywhere they went. Shenna seemed sometimes so lost and out of place, that without the steadying hand of those who helped her, the quest might have been long over. Izan is an arrogant prick full of himself, with nothing greater than his ego, but deep down, he carries a gentle and fiery heart within. His behavior changes over time as he opens up to Shenna and lets his true personality shine. I loved their interactions from the very beginning and enjoyed the variety of sensations they made me feel.
I read an ARC of this book and provide my honest review voluntarily

An epic fantasy full of adventure, friendship, humor, and a splash of romance :) This is a book that will stay with you long after you've finished reading it.

Shenna is an occhemist (potioner) who's had to watch people die her entire life in Eien, all because of a fatal disease called the Necrophaise that can strike anyone, anytime, and take their life within minutes. When someone close to her falls victim to it, Shenna refuses to watch another loved one die... even if it means braving the dangerous wilderness of the outside world of Revellis, where she believes the ingredients to the cure--The Last Elixir--can be found.

Armed with nothing but her potions and bits of knowledge from her mentor's destroyed journal, Shenna journeys into Revellis and finds friendship, love, adventure, insight, and evil the likes of which she'd never imagined. She comes face to face with her fear, and learns secrets about her world that will have you gasping with epiphany! This is a powerful, beautiful, engaging story, and I can't wait for book 2.

If you're into fantasy video games (WoW, Guild Wars, Final Fantasy, and "Tales of..." games) and anime (Yona of the Dawn, Scrapped Princess, and some "girl from another world" anime), you'll love this book. The worldbuilding is deep, rich, and immersive. For me, it also had the same sense of wonder and adventure as the Valdemar and Pern novels did, but written with a fresh, new spin from the books I remember.

I can't wait to see what's next for Shenna, Izan, and their friends!

I just loved to be on The Last Elixir’s journey. Well I admit I was quite happy to be on the reader side because Revelllis is quite a hard place to be and the Liberators are a very scary bunch.
All the characters were special, a bit mad and full of convictions that driven them along the path of life, towards others and made them stand out. The places, the animals and the weather had me hitching to stare at them, furrow my noise and wrap myself in comfortable clothes or just lay there. I really felt like I was travelling with Shenna to meet all the Revellians and discover the connection between them and her people.
The real secret in this adventure was overwhelming: a journey of life and death beyond all expectations.
So take your first step through the wall and hope you will find what you came for.

Great story with excellent world building. I got to the point where I guessed how the countries were "connected". But it wasn't super obvious and before I found out I was right I thought... if it's NOT this then someone should write a story where that is the case because that'd be really cool. Well no need for someone to write that story because it's already in existence.

Not a huge fan of the romance because I felt like it developed oddly but otherwise I really enjoyed this book and I'm looking forward to the next one.
