For two hundred long, heart-wrenching years, Alastair and Cassandra searched for their lost Mate and Master. Left with no choice, Alastair reclaimed the throne and together they embarked on a new life. Killian’s sudden return centuries later reunited the three of them in a communion of love and burning passion. But a happily-ever-after may not be in the cards. Killian refuses to take his rightful place as Vampire King, leaving the burden of the throne on Alastair’s shoulders. Complicating matters, a new threat appears in London. An unknown Master Vampire stalks the streets, launching attacks on Alastair’s warrior patrols. When this dark new presence makes a brutal attempt on the life of Alastair’s son, war becomes a certainty. Alastair has never met an enemy he could not destroy; only this time, he finds himself challenged by a necromantic with unearthly power and uncertain motivations—with intimate ties to Alastair’s sordid past. The second installment of Into the Dark Woods series, King in Chains, shifts to Alastair’s perspective as he wrestles with his tumultuous and erotically charged past with Killian. But when Alastair finds himself at the mercy of the Necromancer’s deranged obsession and cruel revenge, with his kingdom and loved ones threatened, he is faced with making the ultimate sacrifice. King in Chains is the reawakening of a warrior who has lost faith in himself. We once again travel back in history, confronting Alastair’s darkest memories and greatest truths. Action-packed and emotionally charged, Book Two of the Into the Dark Woods Series is both an erotic and blood drenched journey of fate, sacrifice and love.

Graduating with a degree in journalism, I move to New York and worked in publishing for several years. After that, I return to my native Los Angeles and worked in the film industry. Eventually, I started writing screenplays full-time, mostly in the Fantasy Romance genre After the birth of my children, I took some time off to be a mom. But the ideas never stopped coming to me and I continued to work on outlines. On my daughter's first day of preschool, I set up shop in the coffee shop next door and started writing a book. I've never looked back. Half way through my first book, Bound to a Vampire, I knew this would be a long series, Each new character I created was more intriguing than the next and I fell in love with all of them. I also fell in love with Dark Fantasy Romance and erotic MMF character dynamics. I had found my voice. The first book, Bound to a Vampire was self published in early 2015 and the second book in the series,, King in Chains, was published in September 2017. I am hard at work at book three, The Shapeshifters Heart and book four, still awaiting for the perfect title.
This was a reasonable read. I found it got repetitive in the sex scenes and the brutality in the behaviours after a while and wanted to skip ahead. Overall an okay read.
Alastair's mates have returned to him, but even though they celebrate being reunited as a powerful triune, he still cannot let himself fully be happy. A powerful Master vampire threatens not only Alastair's territory, but his family and friends as well. On top of it, he fears that his mates will abandon him again. He does not want to the king, feeling always alone with the weight of everything upon him. Yet when he's captured by the evil Master, he must make a huge decision to do whatever it takes to protect those he loves.
This is the second book in the dark paranormal romance series, Into the Dark Woods, and it is every bit as magnificent as the first. This book is from Alastair's point of view rather than Cassie's, and we get to travel into the past to when Killian first finds him as a young boy and trains him to be a great warrior. Of course we get the story of how their love comes to be, and I ate up every word. It's sensual, sizzling, and intense. While we learn about the past through Alastair's therapy sessions, there is also a great war brewing between Alastair and a new Master who commands the dead. Her power is just as great as his, but there's a surprise with who she is and what she wants. I love how the past and present are so tightly woven together. And gods, how I hated her so much. A well-written villain is just that much fun to hate! Especially since I adore Alastair so much. Many of the same characters are still there in the present, and it was fantastic to see Alastair's four children grown up and who they've become. There are a lot of vicious battles, touching moments, and hot, hot scenes. I get so lost in this world and the characters there. I cannot wait for the next book in the series.
Grey Francis has done it again! Another exciting read. Couldn't put it down had to find out what happened to Alastair and Cassie in their ever evolving world. Would definitely recommend to anyone interested in a great paranormal read!
I loved the Bound to a Vampire but this one was even better. I was on the edge of my seat for the entire book and some how fell more in love with Alastair in this one than I did in the first. I love this series and can’t wait for the next one.
Once again, Grey Francis has blown me away with her storytelling
When I read her first book Bound to a Vampire, I was not prepared for the rollercoaster ride that Grey would take me on. I cried at some parts, I screamed for joy in others, and I fell in love with her incredible writing from the first page. When I read King in Chains, it was the exact same scenario. Grey has a way of pulling you into the story and you can’t turn the pages quick enough to know what happens next. Alastair’s story is told in this book, and like his mate Cassandra, he has been through a lot in both his mortal and immortal life. He was brought up by Killian in the dangerous yet seductive world of vampires, and the two have a tug of war of sorts due to his reluctance to be turned by Killian. The two care for one another deeply, but there is a rift in their relationship. That is just the start of what turns out to be an action packed, sensual, and heart wrenching novel that will leave you wanting more and in my opinion, falling more in love with his character and everything that he went through.
I will not give any spoilers in this review, but I highly recommend this book to those that love hot vampires, steamy moments, and a rich tale that takes you through 1600s England up to the present day. Grey’s prose and storytelling abilities continue to blow me out the water, and she really put her heart and soul into KIC just as he did with Bound to a Vampire. Alastair’s tale is one of seduction, power, and growth, and trust me…this book will not disappoint.

We go back into the journey taken by Alaistair, Cassandra and Killian in Bound to a Vampire.
