Dee originally started this diary as a means to heal, re-story and give her inner children a voice.
The events and episodes of abuse described in this book are actual real life events that occurred. They have been re-told by Dee’s inner children at their various ages (4-7 years old) with a bit of humour and power in order to give them a voice and aide healing from such trauma. Dee then read these diary entries out loud to her friend Misty (who is also a trained counsellor like Dee is). By writing as though she was a four to seven year old herself, Dee was then able to verbally speak of such trauma for the first time by reading these entries out loud . Dee believes that counsellor’s and psychologists should suggest diary writing from the inner child’s perspective to all their clients when doing trauma work as it is very healing.
These diary entries also serve to show the effect that child abuse in all forms (verbal, sexual, psychological etc) and neglect have on the child when they grow up. These effects carry on through to adult hood.
The entries within this diary also serve to point out the dynamics of child sexual abuse – such as the grooming process (using gifts to lure a child) as well as silencing the child so they will not speak up about the abuse occurring to them. Signs to look out for that can point towards child sexual abouse were also covered – such as the hiding of blood stained underwear. Dee's inner children have also included some poetry of the traumatic events experienced which also uncover some of the hidden dynamics and effects of childhood sexual abuse and trauma.
