Interesting story. Lots of deception all around. Secrets!
Yes, secrets, to be sure. It seems like everyone in Midnight Oil Hall has them. What's a girl to do? Well, she better get her act together, before she ends up out on the street. She can't pass a test to save her soul, & now she's falling in love with a high classer with a not so good reputation. Art, pretty decent. Dialogue, good. Characters, believable, likeable, relatable.

Once more unto the breach that is a Nikki Asada manga. I tend to find her pretty mediocre and while this is the best of three series of hers I’ve read, there’s not a lot of compelling material here.
The premise of having a sectioned high school with half over-achievers and half under-achievers is, really, half-baked. It doesn’t make a lick of sense and while there’s allegedly animosity between the groups, it’s mostly just in the background if it shows up at all. Caddyshack: The Curriculum, this is not.
Asahi is our heroine and she beats herself up as one of the unders, and she is forced to move into the upper dorm and then everybody else in the story beats her up for being “dumb” as well. Then romance starts to happen.
It’s not the most exciting or fun read, it’s just kind of there. I do appreciate the improvements in Asada’s art over the years, but her storytelling remains pretty underwhelming to me.

If I have to describe this in manga in one word, it's definitely overhyped. The reviews of this manga were positive and it made me wanna try it. However, one volume down and I can't help but feel meh . As of now, idk if I'll continue reading it, but I don't think it's necessarily something I'll read in a hurry. unless I'm truly bored

This volume was fun. I am intrigued enough by this to continue on, but I don't see it being a brand new favorite.
Asahi’s school is divided into two curriculums: one for ace students who devote their lives to serious study, and one for students who care more about enjoying life than having good grades (like Asahi herself!). Her dorm burns down, so she ends up in a situation that leads her to living in a dorm for the serious students. There she meets and spends time with a boy who keeps sneaking out after curfew.
How this is all packaged is interesting enough, but I could see how not everyone will enjoy this with a dumb girl/smart guy situation at the center of the story. The art is adorable, and like I say, I had fun reading it. I'm going to continue on for at least one more volume before I decide for sure.

This was a cute start of a series taking place in a high school dorm with two different classes of people; the gifted students (academics abound etc.) and the non gifted (the regular/ones who do not necessarily care about it). So this was cute, however I did have a couple of gripes. First off, the leading female character is considered the dumbest of the dumb -.-. I truly hate that trope in anime/manga but at least in most things they try to solve it by people tutoring them. That didn't happen here. At least not as of this volume. So I am hoping that in future volumes the leading guy helps the girl in that aspect.
My other gripe that I have is that it seems like the guys in this manga were more conniving and rude than I expected. I am hoping there's more redemption but of course I will have to read more from the series to know for sure. Because of these points, I have to give this manga volume a 3 out of 5 stars

When Asahi's dorm suddenly burns down, her options are to live with her aunt far, far away (leaving no time for hanging out after school), or accept the class presidents' generous offer for her to move in to the smart kids' dorm, where she must pretend to be a stick-in-the-mud studier or lose her housing. But her first night there she helps a mysterious boy back into the dorm after he breaks curfew... and she must decide if her crush is worth breaking the smart kids' rules.
This was a super short and cute manga, I wanted something light and quick, this was definitely it. I liked it, but I wasn't crazy about it. The story is zero complex and easy going, I finished it in two hours, there's only 18 chapters and I recommend it if you are looking for a cute and short highschool romance.

So I guess I must have bought this through a sale at some point and forgotten about it until now. Probably thought it might be cute/funny.
It’s very contrived and shoujo-y, complete with the idiot female lead and instalove.
On one hand, it’s so freaking cringe and uninspired, but on the other hand I found myself kinda liking the two main characters and being interested to see where things might go, though honestly not much happens in the volume...
The series is on sale right now, so I could get the next volume half price, but I think I might prefer to spend that money on another series....

At Asahi's school, there are two kinds of students: the High-Class set, who are at the pinnacle of academic achievement, and the No-Class set, who barely scrape by while having as much fun as possible. Asahi's always been told she's dumb, so she's a N0-Classer all the way. But when housing becomes an issue, she's given an interesting proposition. Move into the High-Class dorm. And make sure no one else there finds out she's a No-Classer. But almost immediately, one of the boys in the dorm finds out her secret. But he's willing to keep it ... if she'll keep his.

Aww, what an adorable story! An innocent, slice of life, high school romance that has made me quite nostalgic for my own high school days. Loved the dorm room idea, especially since I've never had the opportunity to attend a boarding school.
Nikki Asada's artwork style is so cute and it really suits the heroine's personality. The school uniforms are realistic, and not too fashionable for school. The illustrations of the various components of the dorm hall were also quite well done. They really added to the story.

Cute but a little unremarkable. The class division of “smart vs. dumb” in the school is interesting, but it doesn’t play any key role in the story thus far. I don’t like how everyone calls the heroine stupid, herself included, either. But the heart of the story is like any dorm romance and doesn’t add much to that kind of plot either. It’s a pretty lukewarm addition to digitally released shojo manga in the US, sad to say.

I’m so surprised I read this so quickly. I didn’t even knew that I finished it when I reached the end.
Why do I feel the the president is up to something?
And why am I spend so much money on kindle lately :’(
And can we just get a minute on how innocent Suzumori is. Her first crush and I can’t help but support her. And Yokaze looks interesting. Makes me wonder how the dojo went to ruin. Looking forward to their budding relationship

I really enjoyed the first volume of this series, The Dorm of Love and Secrets. I like the concept of a school merged with laid-back characters and ultra studious characters. The relationship between the two main characters, I really can't wait to see how it plays out and to see how the RA of the dorm is gonna do more sneaky stuff. I feel like he's a real matchmaker.

I started reading this because of the art but I fell in love with this! Shoujo manga is my favorite so it's no surprise that I loved this as much as I did.
The characters are so cute and I love our two main characters so much!
Can't wait til I pick up the second volume!

Review:
This story is kind of similar to Sir Tigers Table, except with the roles reversed. It’s fun but I only gave it 3 stars. Something is just missing you know. Even though Yokaze is the main male lead he hardly shows in the chapter. This volume is really short and I know that the first one usually lays down the foundation but still, it felt like it needed more chapters. However,

This was such a cute manga; Nikki Asada's works are so perfectly in line with my tastes for rom-com series.
I love how Asahi and Yokaze's relationship developed throughout the course of the four volumes, it never felt too rushed or unrealistic.
The characters were great and I ended up being really invested in the plot, though some elements could've been handled better. Maybe if the series had been given more time, maybe a volume more, some things could've been more flashed out and given the right time to develop.
Apart from that it was a very enjoyable series.
