Истински пирати плюс корабокрушение! Много приятна романтика за 1717 г., когато авантюристът Сам Белами, издирващ испанско съкровище, налита на красива пуританка от Кейп Код на име Мария и дори решава да се пожертва пред олтара на брачното щастие. Само че, за да я вземе за жена, му трябват пари, за да залъже религиозната и леля и съграждани. В резултат на което той става пират, а тя - заради собствената си пълна наивност и неговата оптимистична безотговорност - едва не свършва като вещица на кладата. Втората им среща вече не е така безоблачна, защото той е преживял жестоко корабокрушение (буквално), а тя е готова на всякакво обществено отхвърляне заради него, но не и да му позволи да се занимава с грабежи, което силно дразни практика в него и го затруднява повече и от най-разпасания екипаж.
Много симпатична двойка добри същества, които се оправят както могат с епохата си. Той няма много късмет в пиратската кариера, а на нея пуританството просто не и понася. А и накрая има красив Карибски остров за десерт.

Buddy read with bodice ripper-loving Nenia!
Danelle Harmon is very good at writing dashing heroes and spitfire heroines. She's also very good at writing about ships and sea battles, and it seems to me she loves doing it. I felt the same when I read Captain of My Heart, and this book only reinforced my opinion.
I'm rating this three stars. I didn't like it quite as much as CoMH, but it was still enjoyable, if a bit slow. One part even made me cry! Amazing!
Apparently this book was updated for modern audiences, and I'm not even mad, because if this had been even a little more rapey, I might have knocked off a star. Part of my enjoyment came from the sweetness of Sam and Maria's relationship, and his utter devotion to her even when they were fighting. *swoon*
This is my third by Harmon, and she's becoming one of my favorite romance authors.

This is the book that started it all twenty-one years ago... The one to blame for my love of romance novels and reading. The first book that made me cry.
Pirate In My Arms is based on a true story. The author actually worked for three years with a team that, in 1984, discovered "Black" Sam Bellamy's sunken pirate ship Whydah -- which is still being salvaged from the seabed, today.
If you love historical romance novels where the hero is a pirate... A pirate who actually existed once upon a time. Then you're going to love this one.

Maria is an admirable heroine, handling the adversity life has thrown her with courage, but she wants nothing to do with piracy and harps on Sam about it continuously even though she had wanted to marry him. Sam never gives up, taking command of his life as well as his crew. Shifting points of view and the narrator’s additions make it an unusual read.
If you like a pirate romance with real pirates, including Blackbeard, you’ll find it in this story. An unlikely couple come together through very difficult circumstances!

If you love history then this one is for you! It is based on the true love story about pirate Sam Bellamy & Maria Hallet. Well written and a lot of fun to read plus pretty historically accurate until the end. Very well researched!

Very good book! The story is a fictional account based on real-life characters, Sam Bellamy and Maria Hallett and even the notorious pirate, Blackbeard. Lots of action, adventure, romance and passion.

Pirate In My Arms is a standalone book by Danelle Harmon. It was the very first book that she wrote and had published by Avon in 1991. The book was re-released in 2017 with a few changes to update it for the current market, but for the most part, it remains the same.
Captain Samuel Bellamy arrives in Eastham, Cape Cod, looking for investors to finance his hunt for Spanish treasure that had gone down with its ship.
Maria Hallet lives with her aunt in Eastham. She's a quiet, young naive woman and a very beautiful one. The other girls in town find that the older she gets the more beautiful she gets and the more the men are interested in her. Men that they want for themselves. One girl takes it upon herself to set Maria up for a fall from grace so that no man would ever be interested in her. I don't want to give spoilers, suffice to say that in trying to ruin Maria she actually introduces her to the love of her life, Captain Samuel Bellamy!
Sam is equally smitten with Maria and before he leaves on his treasure hunt he promises he will come back to her a rich man and that they will get married.
You know what they say about the best-laid plans? Sam does come back, but he's now a notorious pirate, not the gentleman adventurer that left. He also doesn't return in quite the way he had planned, quite the dramatic opposite in fact.
I am not saying any more about the storyline because so many things happen and I don't want to take away the emotions you will feel from reading them first hand. This book was absolutely fantastic! There were amazing battles at sea, with descriptions unlike any I have read before. The book made me run the whole gamut of emotions and yes I even cried. The passionate love between Sam and Maria was exceptional. I loved the respect that Sam's crew had for him and how despite being pirates they were loyal to the end. Oh and that ending, wow just wow! I honestly can't say enough about how much I loved this book, and what makes it all the more fabulous is that it's based on a real-life pirate. The author tells us more about him at the end of the book.
If you love a good swashbuckling adventure with a perfect romance thrown in amongst life on the seas this is the book for you. I can't recommend it highly enough. It's definitely a book that I will read again and again! Even better...I would love if it were made into a film!!!

Captain Samuel Bellamy is causing all the female hearts to flutter and is the talk of the town. He is an adventurer, determined to make his fortune by any means open to him. A small diversion will both boost his ambitions and knock the wind out of his sails.
This book will take you on a grand adventure through every emotion. Lots of tears, anger , excitement and joy. The arrogance of our hero is immense. The bravery of our heroine is amazing.

Excellent
Danielle Harmon never disappoints! Even this early work has fascinating characters and an intriguing plot that keeps you on the edge of your seat. I kept thinking, okay this has to be the end, then they would get out of that trap, only to fall into the next one! Great story, Great read! Definitely a keeper!

Sam Bellany was a pirate and a pretty good one, tall, black hair, earring in his ear and standing as if he owned the world. Marie Hallett was young, naïve and religious, but loved him fiercely.
There were sword fights, ships pounding away at each other with cannon, taking of treasure, drinking of rum and partying. There was so much going on in this book, especially when tears fell. It was a little emotional. I just think this was an epic story of love, pirates and all the other things they do. I love it, well written and lots of action. I am so glad I got a chance to read this, it was worth every minute it took to finish this amazing tale.

I found this book discounted on Amazon; this is my honest review
TRIGGER ALERT: Attempted rapes by different people - 3 times by 44%, more later, as least another 3.
-My first thought was that Thankful was a mean girl. Then I thought the whole village was mean. All of them, including Thankful, were not just mean but downright atrocious just because Maria Hallett was considered beautiful. Wow.
-Up to ~50%, it was adventure, romance, hope, trials. Then for another 20%-25%, it was Maria fighting against Sam and it was quite tiring. I had enough and dropped my rating to 3 stars. I also had enough of her worrying about a man much older than her that had seen the world over with much battle; Sam too, apparently: "You think I can’t take care of myself, my men, my ship? I’m sick and tired of your foolish, womanish worrying over me!”
-Everything is described to make you feel as if you were there too; the booming guns, the smoke, the winds, the water on the ship, etc. Makes quite a nice picture and easy to understand the pirates' fear and determination, their love of rum, and the lolling around.
-Plenty of adventure, escapes, loyalty and friendship. Good character development, except Maria could have been more exciting and less a shrew OR older and less childish.
-I'm confused as to how she never got pregnant again after all the activities that were going on below deck.
-Editing needs another pass, wrong words mostly: her/your, as/was, her/his, all of them - there are only two. Missing words.

The elegant writing of Danelle Harmon’s books is a joy. Meticulously researched, her books are worthy of your time.
I thought I had completed her entire catalog of offerings until I came across “Pirate In My Arms”.
The heart wrenching opening storyline of pirate Captain Samuel Beckett and Maria Hallett’s plight is all too plausible in New England’s early 1700s, when it was populated by unforgiving, judgmental, extremist Puritans and only two decades removed from the Salem Witch Trials.
Ms. Harmon has taken this centuries old New England legend and woven it into a wonderful novel. Maria is a beautifully constructed character, young but so accomplished, with wisdom beyond her years yet living within her inexperienced and gentle naiveté. Sam climbs to infamy and fortune after running away from home in Devon, England at only nine years old. He is not an English gentleman but a man borne from a seaman’s life, seeking and finally finding his truest treasure.
I will always be grateful that I stumbled across Ms. Harmon’s works and recommend her to anyone who appreciates excellence in writing and can produce thrilling stories.

TW // attempted rape/sexual assault
I love that this is based off a true story, but I found myself struggling to find the passion for Sam and Maria. Clearly an age gap romance (which back in the day I get 16 year olds were marrying older) and not gonna lie it kinda grossed me out even in context of the time period. Maria’s behavior throughout the book made me want to throttle her because again she emotionally just lashed out like a child. The constant back and forth between Maria and Sam made me want to stop reading halfway through but I heard great things about the ending so I continued. In my opinion, their relationship was just toxic…
I thought the pirate scenes, the crew, and the battle scenes were well written. The tie in with witchcraft during this period was very nice, and appreciate the effort the author went through with the herbs and healer remedies.
Overall, I’ll continue reading Danelle’s works…maybe because this was her debut novel it’s a little rough around the edges.

Danelle Harmon'[s first novel, finally available in e-book format, is the book that made me a fan for life. Ms. Harmon intricately weaves fact into her fiction, and gives a happy ending to Black Sam Bellamy, fabled pirate, and Maria Hallet, the colonial healer who captured his heart.
My very favorite historical romances are those where there are large amounts of both, intertwined, and, as always, Danelle Harmon delivers. Her historical worldbuilding is rich and vivid, her characters people of their time, yet also accessible to modern readers. Bad things do happen to good people in Ms. Harmon's books, this one especially (Maria's final scene with Charles will forever rank as one of my all time favorite tearjerkers) but that only serves to make the HEA ending even more satisfying.

I AM THRILLED TO KNOW THIS WAS BASED ON A REAL LIFE PIRATE A.K.A SAM BELLAMY OF THE WHYDAH SHIPWRECK. This fact earned the story points because while it was diverting, it was more swashbuckling than romantic. The characters while weren't like the typical bodice rippers, meaning Sam and Maria actually communicated and fought like normal couples and their love was strong throughout it all despite their differences. No cheating, plenty of pirate affairs and sensual love between the MCs.
You must be wondering why I didn't rate it higher? Well I wouldn't exactly call the entire story exciting. There were moments the characters were so self-absorbed that I failed to see significant progress in their relationship. It was a foregone conclusion that they are in love and I should hope so because the trials they have been through would have made me mad if they never had a HEA.

Danielle Harmon
Tonight I read the final book on the list of Danielle Martin's books.
I have spent the past week or maybe less reading all her books and now I am sad that they have all been read. I have laughed, I have wept and I have enjoyed every minute of her well written characters and their intertwining lives. I may have to reread every one of them as they are now friends. Bravo to Danielle Harmon. I hope she continues to write more books to enjoy.

I have laughed, I have wept and I have enjoyed every minute of her well written characters and their intertwining lives. I may have to reread every one of them as they are now friends. Bravo to Danielle Harmon. I hope she continues to write more books to enjoy.

December 15, 2022I don’t know how this is going to go on for another 340 pages when they’re already banging? Also I can suspend my disbelief in a historical when the heroine is too young for today’s standards (well I can try) but I really don’t need one of her major character traits to be she’s dumb and gullible.

Great story. Loved the twists and turns in this amazing heart wrenching story. Sam is one pigheaded stubborn man. Maria is one headstrong woman. They make for an explosive feisty couple.

Danelle writes such great books that pull you in and don’t let you go till you finish them. Then you wish there was still more to read ! This one does not disappoint. It’s full of suspense and adventure with true friendship and love mixed in. A really great read.
