This is a science fiction romance about a thoroughly modern woman named Annet who by a strange twist of fate is transported back in time to the year 1840. In her contemporary life, she was a strong-willed, foul-mouthed woman going to have a baby with a man she was not married to. She worked at the Alex Keizer Museum, an art museum displaying the paintings of this famous artist. When she is sent back in time during a freak thunderstorm, she shocks everybody with her strange, unladylike mannerisms and speech. She meets Alex Keizer in person, and there is a strange connection to him that she can't ignore. Will she be able to return to Forrest, her baby's father who she loves? Or will she be stuck here forever, and find new love with Alex?

This was a very original novel, and I really liked the plot. The humor sprinkled lightly through the book made me smile, and it definitely had some very interesting twists, including an ending that I frankly did not see coming. It was a good book. However, I felt that the several love scenes between Annet and two different men were too graphic, and they detracted from the quality of the literature. There were a few common historical misconceptions and inaccuracies in this book, as well. The foul language in this book, while it added humor to the story when she said completely inappropriate things to 19th century people and got several different humorous reactions, was a little much. It was also used when it wasn't funny or necessary. If these things were different, I believe this would be a five star book, but as it stands I would give it three. I would still recommend it to fans of time travel fiction.

Annet and Forrest are high school sweethearts whose lives are turned upside down when Annet unexpectedly falls pregnant. While she deals with the implications of her pregnancy, Annet continues to work at the Keizer Museum, famous for its paintings by Alexander Keizer, as they prepare to celebrate its 200 year old anniversary.

On the evening of the celebration, however, Annet and Forrest take a stroll in the sand dunes. Suddenly a freak storm breaks out which results in the two becoming separated. When Annet comes to, she finds herself in a monastery in the year 1840 and rescued by none other than Alexander Keizer himself, to whom she feels an instant connection.

Meanwhile, back in the 21st century, a frantic Forrest searches for Annet and finds himself a suspect as they had quarrelled prior to Annet’s disappearance. While the previously independent Annet struggles to conform to the life and restrictions of 19th century, Forrest must endure the stares and accusations aimed at him by others. Will fate intervene once more and send her back to the father of her baby or will she find love with Alexander?

Storm at Keizer Manor is an engaging time travel novel and was my first introduction to the author. Fans of Outlander will recognise the similarities about a woman who travels back in time and finds love. That’s where the parallels end however. Annet is a relatable - albeit at times flawed - protagonist who readers won’t help empathising with. The prospect of having to give birth without the aid of 21st century medicine, in an era where the mortality rate during childbirth would have been relatively high, is enough to send anyone in a panic.

I was impressed by the way the author managed to weave a story that transitions back and forth between both timelines without ever becoming disjointed. The author’s descriptive writing and historical detail offered great insight into the 19th century and made each one of her time frames come alive. Readers will find themselves torn between the new relationships being formed and wanting to see the reunion between Annet and Forrest. There are enough twists and turns to keep the reader engaged and an ending that I for one, didn’t see coming. I’ll definitely be looking out for future works from the author.

I received an advanced free audible copy of Storm at Keizer and I am voluntarily reviewing it. Susan Marlowe did an excellent job in bringing the characters and the story to life with her clear, concise delivery which made it easy to differentiate between characters.

This is a phenomenal book that will keep you captivated until the very last sentence, and at the end you'll be slightly sad it's over. Although the novel is somewhat long, it reads very nicely and is definitely a page turner. I dedicated myself to this book over the weekend and I found myself struggling to stay awake in the wee hours of the morning, not wanting to put it down.

The main characters, Annet and Forrest, are high school sweet hearts who are living a fairly normal life when they suddenly find themselves to be expecting parents. As Annet struggles to deal with the news of the pregnancy, she continues to work at the Keizer Manor, preparing for the 200th year anniversary celebration. On the evening of the celebration, Annet and Forrest leave the festivities for a short walk in the sand dunes. They find themselves amidst a terrible thunderstorm, unlike any they have ever seen. After the storm has subsided their worlds are turned upside down in a series of dramatic events.

Quick witted and independent Annet finds herself in the 19th century, frantically trying to find her way back home. The sweet and doting Forrest is left in modern times frantically searching for the lost Annet. As both characters endure pain, suffering and heartache the reader is constantly cheering them on, hoping they'll find themselves back together at the turn of the next page.

As time goes on and their circumstances remain the same, relationships are formed with new friends and lovers. The reader becomes torn - happy that the characters are forming new bonds, but somehow still caught up in the lost relationship between Annet and Forrest. By the end, the story comes full circle and the reader will be left feeling happy that everyone wins in this love story!

Ramcy Diek is an amazing author, who knows how to grab an audience's attention and leave them wanting more. She definitely has a way with words and throughout the story she paints a wonderfully detailed story - one your 5 senses will easily pick up on as the imagery forms in your mind. This tale is full of twists and turns that will make you both laugh and cry. It's definitely a book worth reading...and recommending to a friend!

I absolutely loved this book! I wasn't sure I would when I started reading it, but it was one of those books that grabbed me and didn't let me go. I wanted to keep reading and did any chance I got.

The characters were fantastic. I either loved them or I hated them; some of them were just horrible. Ramcy did a great job with character development and I was definitely invested in each of them. The main protagonist was an outspoken, wonderful woman! She was strong and willful and I just loved her character and how it evolved, yet she stayed true to herself as much as she could.

Time travel at its best with a beautiful romance thrown in. This was a lovely story with all the loose ends tied off by the end and very satisfying.

Would I recommend it? Absolutely!

I speed-read Storm at the Keizer Manor in a couple days. It’s a long book, but it’s a real page turner. Storm is the kind of story where you reach the end of the chapter, but you have to keep going even though it’s late and you have work in the morning because you simply have to find out what happens next. In short, Author Ramcy Diek has created a story readers won’t be able to pry their eyes away from.
Here’s the premise of the story: The protagonist, Annet, lives in modern times until she gets sucked into the nineteenth century. Meanwhile, her boyfriend, Forrest, looks for her in the present. The book goes back and forth between modern times, which includes a missing person hunt, and the 1800s, where Annet learns how to live in a world where women don’t have many rights. This makes the genre somewhat hard to place, but it brings together the best from historical fiction, science fiction and romance.
Annet has to learn the delicate art of being a woman in the nineteenth century. One of her biggest challenges is fashion. She has to wear long lacy dresses, and she learns quickly that women are second-class citizens in this world.
One of Annet’s biggest challenges is learning that, in her new time, no one brushes their teeth. It seems somewhat trivial, but it’s a big deal to her. This theme is later seen when Annet comes down with pneumonia, and all they can do is have her lay in bed and wait it out. Many are the challenges Annet faces, and they will keep your eyes glued to the page.
Great plots make for a great read through once, but great characters are what’s going to keep people reading a story over and over again. That’s this books greatest strength. Catch Storm at the Keizer Manor, coming out November 15th from Acorn Publishing.

I found this book discounted on Amazon via The Fussy Librarian; this is my honest review.
-Annet came out as self-centered, ungrateful, and insolent. She didn't impress me and I was ready to quit the book after just 30% in. While she lashed out her venom left and right, people had to please her in any way they could.
-Annet takes in the oddities; wrong examples of oddities since she was in a convent living with nuns. Nothing odd about being given a chamber that is bare, simple meals, or having no excitement, but needing to keep quiet.
-I loved Forrest; he took care of Annet and everything around their tiny apartment. I loved Alex for the same reason, and also for his patience, for his love, and for his acceptance of her foreign ways.
-I liked how Annet and Alex balanced their lives between the cabin and the family home with their growing family and the solution they found for it.
-I would have liked to see more of how Annet's two worlds would collide; the end wasn't enough, it just gave us a glimpse and it seemed rush-rush.
-Funny (or not): "a time where people would be open-minded, and tolerant". Annet is talking about the 1980's -> we are no not open-minded nor tolerant.
-The editing needs a serious pass: missing words, wrong nouns, etc. There are so many they sidetrack you from the story.

I felt privileged to be chosen to read this novel before it was published. The story starts out with a serene little screenshot of the main characters' home life. Then it sweeps the characters and the reader up in a whirlwind of excitement, romance, and drama. It's filled with unexpected twists and turns. All the characters felt very real to me, and towards the end I never really knew who I was rooting for. Even the more antagonistic characters were real enough that I couldn't just root against them. If you are looking for a romance that stands out from the crowd this one is for you. The writing is exquisite, and the storyline engaging. It's almost everything anyone could want from a romance novel.

Debut novel Storm at the Keizer Manor is one of those books that you initially read too fast because you can’t wait to find out what is going to happen next. Racing through the book I kept telling myself the whole time to slow down because I knew I would be sorry to see it end.

Annet and Forrest are interesting and well rounded characters and the idea of time travel I always find intriguing. Throw in some romance and historical fiction and you end up with an unusual and fun concept. Great plot twist and turns all come together nicely in the end.

This book deserves to be read again just to pay more attention to all the rich detail the second time around.

Already looking forward to your next book Ramcy Diek!

I wanted to read this book mostly for the time travel portion of it. I’m not a huge fan of romance novels, so I was a bit apprehensive about it at first. However, I actually ended up enjoying it very much, even the romance portion of it. The romance wasn’t overdone by any means. There were some sexual parts, but the characters were warm, funny and relatable. It was interesting to see how Annet fared in the 1800’s, considering her foul mouth and progressive thinking was somewhat shocking to the people of that era. This was a unique story that I surprisingly ended up loving.

This was overall 3.5 for me. I think some might really love it. And it might have been a 4. However, I got hung up on the way things were worded and how the main female character acted when back in time. Just small things, but I feel it makes a difference for continuity. This is mostly a romance, so if you like romances, I am sure you will move past the small things that got to me. I loved the end! The narrator did alright, it was just the New Jersey type accents every once in a while that I didn't really like.
If you like The Outlander, you will enjoy this.

Storm @ Keizer Manor -Audiobook review
I loved this fun time-travel romance. The author Ramcy Diek did a wonderful job of transporting you to a different time, and I often wondered in the novel how I would have acted / reacted / lived my story had this happened to me.... Being a very outspoken & modern woman myself this really intrigued me throughout the book. I loved all the characters that made the story a joy to hear. I enjoyed the narrator Susan Marlowe's way of bringing everyone to life.

What a wonderful read.
It was such a pleasure to read this book. I found myself longing to read it at every chance I could.
The storyline was brilliantly written with an end I didn't see coming.
Ramcy Diek and Shelly Stinchcomb, certainly puts you into the past that is cleverly woven back into the future.
Highly recommend.

I was wonderfully surprised by this book. Ramcy provides a very intelligent and imaginative story line with an ending which I could never have predicted. The characters are written in great detail so you develop a clear picture of them and deep empathy from the beginning. A wonderful mix of romance, time travel and mystery are combined to bring very interesting twists. The main question I developed during this story was how does Annet get back to the 21st Century after being swept back in time to the 19th century in a dune storm. In present time Keizer Manor is a famous museum known for its oil paintings by Alexander Keizer. In the 21st century it is celebrating its 200 years anniversary which Annet has been given the honour of helping to organise by the lady of the manor. When she is swept back in time she leaves her boyfriend Forrest and family in despair searching for her with the additional worry that she is pregnant carrying Forrest's child. As Annet develops a loving relationship with a new gentleman in the 19th century who takes care of her after being found in a convent and with nowhere to go, Annet becomes torn between the love for the father of her child in the 21st century and who Alexander Keizer in the 19th century the man who rescues her and is the creator behind the paintings of Keizer manor. Who does she decide to stay with? Does she get back to the 20th century and how?
I found this book very pleasant to read as the chapters were not too long and written in a very interesting and gripping style. I commend Ramcy for creating such an intelligent story line. I was trying to understand the reason for Annet being taken back in time which is revealed at the end. How events unfolded took me totally by surprise and exceeded my expectations. A very enjoyable and thoroughly good read.

I won this book in a Goodreads giveaway; thank you, Goodreads and Rancy Diek, for this. I'm sorry that I can't give this a higher rating - I very much like this particular subgenre, the fish out of water type of situation where someone ends up out of their time, or in another world etc. And I should have really liked this - a modern woman sent back in time. But this interesting concept was completely undercut (to me) by two major problems: One was Annet herself - she was so foul-mouthed and insolent and stupid and rude (sorry, I know she's supposed to be a perfect paragon) that I had no sympathy for her once she found herself in the past, in fact I really hated her. She was so obnoxious as to be unbelievable. I pretty much spent the book hoping she'd really be taken down a peg. I could actually have tolerated her except for the other major problem - the completely incredible elements necessary to make the plot work. I'm talking about things like Forrest (a completely likeable and believe able character) not being able to find a job (civil engineers are always in demand) to the things Annet got away with in the past. I tried to get past this by telling myself that the time period wasn't all that long ago, but there were so many times my eyes just rolled out of my head, that I almost made myself blind. I have to admit, I read a lot more of it than I wanted, because I felt obligated to because of the giveaway, but I did give up at the 85% mark, and skipped ahead to the ending.
It wasn't a horrible book, but it could have been so much better had Annet been toned down just a bit.

Romance and time travel come together in this master piece of a novel by Ramcy Diek. When Annet, a pregnant woman from the twenty first century discovers she has gone back in time to the 19th century after going for a walk in the dunes with Forrest( her boyfriend and father of the unborn child), the plot thickens.
A storm had taken them by surprise but spared Forrest. This solitary transportation of Annet makes Forrest a suspect since he had an argument with her prior to the sudden disappearance. A search for Annet begins in earnest, but the novel focuses on how she adjusts to life in the 19th century. Her personality takes an interesting turn when she finds herself in a monastery. At first, she thinks it’s a kind of joke until she meets Alex Keizer, the 19th century painter whose paintings adorn the museum she works for. She is surprised at first but comes to accept the unfolding of events. Interestingly, the more she stays in the past, the easier she understands what has been happening in her life and that she only needs to be happy.
Anyone who is interested in time travel will find flipping through the pages of Storm at Keizer Manor to be a fascinating experience. The novel is rich in history. Readers will learn how industrialization came to be. The novel is breath taking in the way Annet’s character develops over time. There are no unnecessary passages that reduce the flow of the novel. Romance is given its rightful place in the novel, but not in an extremely overt form. The ending is quite befitting for a story of this kind. It’s not a complex story to read although taking breaks from time to time and visualizing some scenes will make for an enriching experience.

Ramcy Diek’s engaging novel, Storm at the Keizer Manor will sweep you up in the storm of Annet’s and Forrest’s lives and command your emotions. I give this well thought-out fictional, adventurous tale of time travel a PG-13 rating for non-explicit sex and language. It’s a jewel for romantics to treasure. Like a fabulous meal lingers on your tongue, this story remains with you to mull over and savor in quiet moments.

Their little family is just beginning to bud. He is a job-hunting college graduate – she is a manager of a well-known art gallery. They stroll on the beach and a tempest descends – forcefully separating them. What is a twenty-first century stubborn woman to do when she awakens in the nineteenth century? If you answered, ‘cause a storm,’ you would be correct.

She wrestles with her lack of conformity and expected behavior in society. He, for months, must endure the stares and public humiliation of his girlfriend’s disappearance as the police work their missing person case. Our main characters suffer greatly and the tension is palpable in both realms.

Not everything is tied up with a bow. One curious, fortune-telling woman feels a link to the time traveler and we are left wondering about her abilities and a possible other-worldly connection. With easy-to-love characters as flawed and real as these, the ending came too soon. I was satisfied but greedy and wanting to know more. I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars.

What caught my attention from the beginning was the strong-willed, fiery heroine, Annet. She was a pleasant surprise, and I kept reading with interest. Before long, I found myself reading historical romance. “What?! I know, right?” I couldn’t believe how lucky I was to all of a sudden, be reading one of my absolute favorite genres!

Forrest, Annet’s present-time boyfriend and father of her baby, had one hell of a time once Annet disappeared and I felt so bad for the man. He suffered, overwrought with concern for his lost love. Seriously, the poor guy! His struggles seemed very real, and I felt empathy for him and his situation.

Alexander (Alex) is the hot-headed, super-sexy artist who Annet had been featuring in her current time. When she meets him in the past, it’s definitely extreme curiosity, if not love at first sight. For my money, I loved the idea of the two of them together from the get-go.

I really enjoyed how Annet handled her crazy trip through time. I was rooting for her from the beginning.

With the time travel, not yet knowing if Annet makes it back, and worrying about Forrest, I had no idea how the author could wrap up the ending of this book in a satisfactory way, but she did it! 🙂

Judge a book by its cover. Go ahead. This book's cover is stunning and amazing!

And, the story is, too. The story is emotionally-charged and written in lyric prose, raising it to an extraordinary level. I was quickly and believably immersed in the multiple POV novel. While I'd describe the story as character-driven, it also has a straight-to-the-heart plot.

It's time travel, it's paranormal-ish, it's historical. It's artsy and - at once - a conventional and unconventional love story. This novel is a revelatory marvel. It's a love triangle with a spirited female and two romantic leads. Who will win? Everyone, in a remarkable twist.

And, then, like a clap of thunder, mere pages later there's another twist. I was shocked and awed. Nobody loses, though tears are shed. No bodice ripping, but there are several wardrobe changes that compel. The novel is well-detailed in its period research of clothing, politics, food and all elements of daily life.

This novel is a clash of the titans: the women's revolution and the Industrial Revolution.

It travels from the cell phone era of today and the no-phones era before Alexander Graham Bell.

Intrigued? Buy this book and read for yourself.

Recensione completa sul blog:
https://sognotrailibri.blogspot.com/2...

Storm at the Keizer Manor was a fantastic read. I'd never considered myself much of a romance reader before this book and I can now consider myself a changed woman. I wouldn't expect to relate to Annet, modern "twenty-first-century" woman the way that I did. All of Ramcy's characters are unique and deep, you either love them whole heartedly or hate them bitterly. For me, it's wonderful to have that sort of emotion, love, and hate evoked with a character.

The story itself was rich and detailed. It was a smooth and wonderful read that left me begging for more each time I tried to put the book down. I had several days where I was reading well into the night to finish "just one more" chapter that never turned out to be "just one more". The book had pleasant twists and turns and surprises at every twist and turn. It's a long read, but it's definitely worth it.

Annet enjoys her job. She works at Keizer Manor where the work of her favorite painter is displayed. But life is far from smooth. She doesn’t approve of her mother’s lifestyle and the boyfriend that she has put through college can’t find employment. She discovers that she is pregnant. After being caught in a horrible storm, she awakens to find that she has been transported back in time. What more could happen? As it turns out, so much more happens.

This is a very enjoyable story. It is easy to read and is something to reward yourself with after a tough day. While the author provides excellent background leading up to the life altering storm, the story post-storm feels rushed. I wish we had more insight into how Annet adapted to such major change in her life. After so much difficulty, she deserves some good.

Annet and her boyfriend Forrest have got their little problems just like every other couple, especially since Annet got pregnant without really wanting it; nevertheless, he helps the hard-working girl with her job at the gallery dedicated to 19th century painter Alex Keizer, whose work she admires enormously. During the anniversary celebration of the Keizer Manor, they have yet another row and Annet runs out into the dunes – and a terrible storm breaks out that transfers her… not in space, but in time, back to the 19th century! And whom does she meet there…?
A wonderful, most fascinating story, told in a vivid and beautiful way, amusing and moving at the same time, one of those books that you literally can’t put down. One of the best examples of time travel fiction I’ve ever read!

I listened to this on audiobook.

The author was new to me as was the genre that this book falls under. However I loved the cover to this book which is what first appealed to me and then upon reading the blurb, I knew I had to give it a go as sounded so very good.

Suffice to say I wasn't disappointed, I really did enjoy listening to this story from start to finish. It was like nothing I'd ever read/listened to before.

I absolutely loved getting to know all of the characters especially Annet and Forest, their individual stories were bought to life and I loved how the story was told by them both in turn, flicking to the past and then the future. It was very well written and thought out, and very clever how it all comes together at the end.

This is a quick read because the author has a laid back friendly writing style that readers are going to love. Annet Sherman is twenty five and living with boyfriend Forrest. Annet works for the Keizer art foundation, a place that houses paintings from nineteenth century painter Alex Keizer. During a strange storm, Annet is lost and awakes to find herself thrown back in time and unbelievably meets the man whose pictures she saw everyday in her job. The author has taken the idea of time travel on a fun, and interesting avenue. I found the book well written and intriguing. I think this author is one to watch.

I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not a huge fan of time travel stories, but I loved Storm at the Keizer Manor. I liked this story because it was so much more than a time travel romance. The majority of the Storm at the Keizer Manor centered on the journey of a young woman who began the novel as difficult to like. Her unexpected circumstances force her to grow and adapt to her new surroundings. By the end the story she blossoms into a remarkable woman who never surrenders her passionate nature. The story is eloquently written and beautifully told. I’m so glad I read Storm at the Keizer Manor.

Hooked from the start! I couldn’t put this book down! I became a fan of time travel romance after reading and then watching the Outlander series. This gem of a story by Ramcy Diek won’t disappoint. It is very believable. Have you ever felt like something was out of sync? Rather than wanting to marry her long-time boyfriend when she becomes pregnant, Annet feels unhappy and at odds. She tries to reconcile her discordant feelings but continues to argue with him. During an event at the Keizer Manor where she works, they argue, she runs out and goes missing during a storm. I can’t say more without spoiling the story – but there may be a good reason for those feelings.

Even your not a sci fi fan this book could be for you. It’s a modern twist on sci fi (in my opinion) we’re talking time travel and different futures all rolled into one meaty book.
I’d never heard of Racy Diek before this book and I only dabble in sci fi but I can guarantee I’ll have the next book released.
It’s a novel full of twists and turns and you find yourself guessing and being sure your right but actually you dont mind being wrong- how often does that happen in a novel?
A thrilling read that has an ending I couldn’t see coming

I really enjoyed this little time travelling adventure - it was a little slow to start but once the heroine ends up in the past the pace picks up nicely.
Personally I enjoyed Annet’s plot line in the past a lot more than Forrest’s in the now, I related to her and I also didn’t find her particularly foul mouthed as other reviews might indicate - but then I’m European, so really this is nothing to us :)
Both plot lines are being tied up nicely in the end though.
The narration by Susan Marlowe was great - a very relaxing and easy to follow audio experience.

I was given this book to read in return for an honest review.
An imaginative plot combined with masterful insight into human nature make this book a pleasure to read. The author has created fulsome, rounded and credible characters who aide in the storytelling. Filled with romance and tinged with anticipation, the book moves at a brisk pace, taking the reader on an enjoyable ride. There is sadness to the story but it is balanced by the charm in its telling.
