Welcome to Burnt River, a new series of Contemporary Western Romance stories set in the fictional town of Burnt River, Montana. Brought to you by Shirleen Davies, Peggy L .Henderson, Kay P. Dawson, Amelia Adams, and Kate Cambridge.
Boone’s Surrender, Book Eleven, Burnt River Contemporary Western Romance Series, by Shirleen Davies.
Daniel “Boone” Macklin has a lot to learn. Going from a bachelor rancher to the father of a six-year-old boy hadn’t been in his plans. Like almost everything else in his life, he doesn’t hesitate to face his new responsibilities head-on. The one regret he has is not facing the truth about his feelings for the woman he still loves. Willow Robinson is determined to put the tragedy from her past behind her—as well as her love for the youngest Macklin brother. Forgiveness she can offer. Forgetting is something she’d been unable to achieve.
It’s been three years since the heartbreaking night that changed their lives. In Boone’s mind, continuing to act as if Willow and their close friendship since childhood is over no longer makes sense. Convincing her they deserve a second chance presents more of a challenge than training the green broke horses on his ranch.
As their tenuous connection begins to rebuild, a danger to their families threatens to destroy whatever future they may still have.
Every step toward a future, every memory of the past presents obstacles neither may be able to overcome. Can their wounded hearts allow them to deal with the present crisis, or will it sever any chance of rebuilding the love neither wants to admit?
Boone’s Surrender, book eleven in the Burnt River Contemporary Western Romance Series, is a stand-alone, full-length novel with an HEA and no cliffhanger.

Shirleen Davies grew up in Southern California. She attended Oregon State University, and has degrees from San Diego State University and the University of Maryland. During the day she provides consulting services to small and mid-sized businesses. But her real passion is writing emotionally charged stories of flawed people who find redemption through love and acceptance. She now lives with her husband in a beautiful town in northern Arizona.
While this book is listed as number 11 in a series, it can definitely be read as a stand alone without detracting from the story at all. This was a very enjoyable second chance romance that read just like a snapshot of regular life. There were no billionaires just ordinary people living normal lives and doing the best that they can. Although there was on tragedy that I wish wasn't a part of the real world. Boone and Willow were very likable characters that had suffered some hardship but they were both too young to keep their relationship going. Now years later, Boone realizes how much Willow truly meant to him and he is determined to get her back. Once again Shirleen Davies has written a very engaging novel with realistic characters and a story line that just grabs you from the start.
ARC for honest review with no compensation. 4.5 stars
Boone is book 3 in the Macklins of Whiskey Bend series by Shirleen Davies and was part of the Burnt River series years ago.
This story is about Boone, a single man who because of a promise to a friend suddenly becomes a father to a six year old and Willow who was Boone’s girl who he left go before he realized what he had. When tragedy struck, Willow completely turned her back on Boone but now he wants a second chance with her and she is determined to not let him back in her life except thru business.
Can Boone show Willow that their past can be mended to bring them full circle to finding a HEA??
Boone is the third book in Shirleen Davies’ Macklins of Whiskey Bend. All three books are a second-chance contemporary western romance.
Boone is the Macklin brother who took over working the family ranch after his parents died. He and Willow grow up together and, eventually, date each other. The two of them break up after a tragic accident that changes their lives. After that, even though they both live in Whiskey Bend and still care about each other, they do not speak to each other for three years.
Recently, Boone adopts a six year old boy, Ty, from a friend who has just died of cancer and has no other family. He gladly takes on this major responsibility, even though he is knows nothing about children. However, he and Ty form a fantastic relationship. I love whenever the author describes the activities when the two of them together!
During this time, Boone often runs into Willow. He realizes he still has feelings for her and wants a second chance. However, he hurt her so badly the first time, that she fights her feelings and refuses to try again.
Finally Willow, hesitantly, agrees to see him again when he promises to take the relationship slowly. Although the two of them still love each other, there are too many misunderstandings between the couple due to Boone’s big mouth. He repeatedly speaks before he thinks, and says things that he doesn’t realize hurt Willow. Therefore, she is often upset with Boone and he doesn’t understand why.
The climax of the story occurs when someone kidnaps Ty and Willow’s niece. There are clues since no one saw it happen. This part is action-packed, full of intrigue and extremely emotional.
This is a great story! The interplay between Boone and Ty is playful, loving and emotional! And, although Boone often makes me angry with his naivete towards Willow, I still think they are a great couple.
Boone's Surrender is book 11 in the Burnt River series but I read it as a standalone and had no trouble following the characters. It did spark my curiosity to read the rest of the series.
Boone Maclin has matured and now has adopted a six year old boy, Ty. He has adjusted well to being a father and running his ranch but his heart aches for the one woman, Willow Robinson, he let get away without telling her how much he loved her. Now he has decided he is going to pursue her and not let her get away a second time.
Willow Robinson has dealth with heart break for years after it was broken by Boone. She still loves him but knows she needs to forgive him so that she can move on. When Boone begins to pursue her, she is tentative to begin again. But she cannot resist him. He has matured and is not the irresponsible man he used to be. Willow and Boone rekindle their relationship. Willow loves watching Boone interact with his son Ty.
But in the area there is danger to the children. They are being kidnapped and sold. When the danger hits close to home, can Boone and Willow's tender love survive?
I loved that Boone's Surrender hits on the tough issue of human trafficking. It was tastefully done and I appreciated that.
I am a fairly new reader to this author, as well as the series and was pleased on how much I liked both. The story centers around Boone Macklin and Willow Robinson. He is a rancher who has recently adopted a six year old, and she is the girl he had and lost three years before, when an accident occurred , and hearts were broken. They both seem to have decided to reconnect and maybe try again. But after the heartbreak, lack of trust, losses and insecurities, this might be just a dream. But now , both have matured and seem to be moving forward until another incident sends them apart, again, because of misunderstandings. Will Willow and Boone get their second chance or will they miss out on what could be the best thing to happen in their lives? Though I had not read any stories about the Macklin, the author does a very good job of telling us who everyone is, without overwhelming the reader with information. A heartbreaking but also a heartwarming story you’ll likely enjoy. I was gifted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
This story involves the youngest of the Macklin brothers. He's adjusting to life after having adopted and being responsible for a Tyler, a 5 year old who mother died. But the one thing he still regrets is the way high relationship with Willow Robinson ended. And as he ponders his life, he knows he still wants her and can no longer act as if they don't know each other. He asks her to give them a second chance but all she will agree to is being friends. But he knows he can work with that as a starting point.
The story shows how Boone and Willow have grown over the years since the tragic event that they shared. Plus Boone has seen how his brothers have fought for the loves of their lives so he has good role models to help guide him. There is a scary part in the book involving Tyler and Carly (Willow's 14 year old niece) but thankfully there is a happily ever after to the story. You might want to have some tissues handy, although there are also lots of light hearted parts.
Boone's Surrender (Burnt River Contemporary Western Romance Book 11) by Shirleen Davies is part of a series that several authors have contributed books. I have only read two of the series both by Shirleen Davies. I discovered her as a western historical romance writer but found her contemporary westerns to be just as enjoyable. So it is the same with Boone’s Surrender.
Second chance romance are one of my favorite. This one has Boone and Willow as Boone tries to woo her back into his arms again. Add helpful brothers and a six-year old, to round out this Burnt River Romance. It is a heartwarming and touching story. Facing life head-on is good but Boone learns to face his feelings the same way. Thumbs-up from me. It makes me want to read the other books in the series.
The publisher/author gave me a complimentary ARC of the book.
Boone was a bachelor, working hard to run the family ranch. He still feels badly about the way things ended between him and Willow, several years ago. Since then, he has become an adoptive father to a six year old boy.
Willow is busy running her family's feed shop. She's still hurt over losing Boone and the accident that happened right after.
Boone and Willow are attempting to mend their relationship when Boone's son and Willow's niece go missing. Fear runs rampant while the authorities search for the missing children. It is feared that they may have been taken by a child trafficking ring.
Will the children be found? Can Willow and Boone's relationship survive the tragedy? This is another great book by Shirleen Davies. I have read most of her books. I was given an advance copy. This is my honest opinion.
Awesome contemporary cowboy romance. Boone is a rancher and has recently adopted a little boy. In his day he was wild but now is trying into the role as father. Willow has lived Boone most of her life but several years ago their world self destructed. The author uses the community of Burnt River to bring her story to life. Small town living means everyone knows everyone else's business. As Boone and Willow are struggling to move forward disaster strikes and the community steps up to help. The characters are realistic so readers can connect and for me that makes it more enjoyable. I look forward to reading more about the unattached members of Burnt Creek. I received a complementary copy of this book and chose to write a review. I look forward to reading future books by Ms. Davies.
This book goes into the category of one of the best I’ve ever read. There are portions of this book that literally made my chest grip and grab my heart; there are characters that make me want to cry; there are situations that make me wonder what the world is coming to with our children’s safety. Young people make mistakes, make decisions that affect the rest of their lives and sometimes, they take the time and effort to mend their ways. This book has so much heart and realism that I won’t forget it for a very long time. My hero is a little guy named Tyler and his love of life. This author did a tremendous job of telling this story and I thank her for giving me an early copy.
A superbly written second chance contemporary western romance with relatable characters and raw emotions that kept me riveted from the first page to the last. I became so involved, I didn't want the book to end.
The interactions between Boone Macklin, bachelor rancher and father to six-year-old Tyler, and Willow Robinson were heartwarming and at times heart-wrenching as they worked through past insecurities and loss to forgiveness and hope.
I really enjoy reading about the residents of the fictional town of Burnt River, Colorado and Boone's Surrender is one of my favorites. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
I received a complimentary copy of this book and I am voluntarily reviewing it.
This was a great read. It was a thoroughly enjoyable story. I fell in love with the characters. I haven't read any of the prior stories and I was able to follow this along perfectly. I am intrigued as to the prior characters' stories so I will just have to go back and read them. I love a great story that doesn't have to rely on sex to sell it. This book had a great plot to keep the reader interested. I highly recommend this story to anyone who is tired of the same old "romance" books out there. This one will truly capture your attention and show you what a romance book should be!!!
5 Stars I purchased a copy of the second chance western contemporary romance Boone: Macklins of Whiskey Bend, Montana: Book 3 by Shirleen Davies and this review was given freely. When friendship, loyalty, and love lead to introspection and regret, newly single father Daniel “Boone” Macklin finds himself still attracted to his first love, Willow Robinson, and willing to do anything to get her back. Best if read in series order. Contains suspense in the form of kidnapping and human trafficking.
Loved this second chance romance with Boone and Willow who were once a couple until things went all wrong and now three years later they do not speak. When Boone adopts a six year boy he realizes just how much he misses Willow and decides to try and get her back. Willow also still loves Boone but she is not sure that she and Boone can make a relationship work but when his son and her niece get kidnapped they work together to get them back. Well written suspense/romance that kept me reading.
When Boone suddenly becomes a father, due to a promise made to a dying friend, he isn't sure that he is capable. He proves himself wrong. His son Billy adores him.
Willow has a history with Boone. The past has a very painful incident that keeps Willow from talking to Boone. Then life happens and everything changes.
I'm really enjoying this series and getting to know the Macklin brothers. I loved Boone and Willow's story. These two were meant to be together. It just took Boone awhile to figure it out. Now Greg and Kelly need a story. A captivating read that I read straight through.
They were teenage lovers when careless words were spoken. It had gone on too long. Boone needed to fix it. He was settling in with his adopted son. But he needed Willow to make his life complete. It was going well until careless words almost derailed them again. Great story Great characters
Great story! Boone is a kind hearted person who helps others. He and Willow have a history, that ended badly. However circumstances develop where they need to help each other. They story is page turning and interesting. I enjoy the superb writing of Shirleen Davies and look forward to reading her other books.
This story is about the youngest Macklin brother. Boone had a hard time telling his girlfriend that he loved her but in the end he did. After a kidnapping of his son and his girlfriend’s niece he was not long-in changing his mind. This is my review and mine alone. Norma Gorrill
Is is a well written story that has so much in it that you will not be able to put the book down until the end. It's full of excitement and adventures with added drama.
This series is ending with an amazing story. After reading the blurb I prepared to have my heart strings pulled on with a sad story. I was wrong. This is a wonderful story with an amazing cast & plot. I did find my heart strings pulled a little but it was so worth it. Love this series
Wonderful story of the youngest Macklin brother, who becomes the father of his dead friend's son. A second chance.with a former sweetheart with lots of drama and some scary action will keep you turning the pages until the HEA.
I love reading about the Macklin brothers. This story is Well written with great characters. Each story keeps getting better. Once you start you won't put down. Definitely would recommend reading this book. I was given an advanced reader copy and I voluntarily leave this review.
This family of three sons, their troubles and romances make a great story. Thorn, Boone and Del, Del being the sheriff, Thorn, returned army ranger, and Boone, owner of the family farm. Enjoy each one, you won’t be sorry.
Thank you Shirleen Davies, for all your wonderful books, I enjoyed each and everyone of them. Boone and Willow was great, exciting and a little scarey. But it ended real good.
I have read all three books. and I am now going to start on book four! This one is about Kell! I loved all three books: Thorn, Del, and Boone! Hopefully when I finish Kell Ms Davis you will have more stories coming about the Macklins!!!
Boone runs his family's ranch, and he is an adopted father, willow runs her family's feed store. This is a great story, full of life's upand downs. The children go missing....I loved this story.
Good reading about misunderstandings and missed signals and a family that is United when there are struggles and hardship. A community sticking together.
