Sightseeing tips for avoiding lines and crowds.Insider insight on museums and attractions.Advice on eating and drinking like locals and with locals.Safety, etiquette and cultural information.Few cities on Earth induce such passion, such wonderment as Paris. France's capital, long drawing artists, writers, bon vivants, world leaders, fashionistas and travelers, holds an unassailable position in the hearts and minds of all who have ever strolled her tangled streets. There's simply something about Paris. It's not only the plethora of illustrious art, seemingly endless museum halls, historic ghosts or acclaimed café scene. Paris seems to create its own heartbeat that, much like the mysterious attic of our childhood years, holds a fascinating allure; the city invites you to tap this vein and forever see the world and yourself differently.
"Paris, however - because of her purely fortuitous beauty, because of the old things which have become a part of her, because of her entanglement of buildings and tenements - Paris yields herself in discovery as an attic beloved in our childhood gave up its secrets." — Jean Cocteau, The Paris We LoveBut if Paris is like a beloved attic from our childhood, it is becoming an increasingly crowded one. Over 15 million international tourists descend on the city every year. It's now imperative for savvy travelers to make the reservations, beat the tour groups and seek lesser-known, "secret" spots.
In Essential Paris Travel Tips, I dispense my very best advice for traveling to Paris. Gleaned from over 15 years of travels to the great City of Light, my secrets and insight will help you plan and execute the perfect Paris getaway. You'll learn how to skip crowds, find the city's best values, and experience the city more like a savvy local than a bewildered tourist. Whether it's your first time in Paris or you're back for more, this book will teach you something new.

RORY MOULTON IS A writer, publisher and entrepreneur who lives in the Colorado Rockies with his wife and son. When away from his desk, Rory’s passionate about travel, woodworking, museums and the great outdoors.
Rory believes travel is most rewarding when done independently on a ground-level budget. Focus on experiential — not checklist — travel. Eat like a local. Stay in family run hotels, hostels or Airbnbs. Meet a local family. Picnic in the parks. Take overnight trains. See the major cultural sights, but also be spontaneous. In short: Ditch the all-inclusive, find an affordable flight to a foreign country, fill a carry-on backpack and off you go!

I’ve been to Paris and am in the midst of meticulous planning and research for a trip in a month. I wasn’t sure if this book would offer much new but the price was right. I was pleasantly surprised by the tips and destinations I was able to get that I haven’t come across before. There were even fresh insights on things i was already aware of. A couple recommendations were out of date but that is to be expected.
...and hoping the advice I've just read is as incredible as it sounds. Some of the small tips will be invaluable, who knew that tipping may not be necessary, or that there are ways to avoid long entry lines? Or that there is an animatronic albino boar in a museum? Looking forward to finding out if the five stars is warranted. Getting it is!
Liked the way the book was set up- will re-read again prior to going to Paris for more pointers on how to beat the crowds and see things off the beaten path.
