Андрей Лазарчук родился 6 февраля 1958 года в Красноярске. Окончил Красноярский медицинский институт – «кузницу красноярских писателей», работал в различных медицинских учреждениях. Первые удачные литературные опыты относит к 1983 году. С 1989 года живет исключительно литературным трудом. В 1992 году окончил Московский литературный институт. Автор более полусотни книг (считая переиздания), член Союза российских писателей и Русского ПЕН-клуба. Участник «Малеевских» и «Дубултинских» семинаров. Переводил на русский язык произведения американских фантастов Филипа Дика, Роберта Хайнлайна, Люциуса Шепарда. Лауреат ряда литературных премий. С 1999 г. живет в Санкт-Петербурге.

OK, so, what is this book? Long story short - it's an unofficial Russian adaptation of the first two episodes from the very first season of The X-Files , a popular TV show. Here we have Pilot and Deep Throat . How is this even possible to be a thing? Well, after the USSR fell, the imported goods and movies started to appear on post-USSR territories, but since there was no copyright law in the USSR (private business was considered to be a crime there), a lot of weird stuff appeared with no reason whatsoever. Russians loved The X-Files. It's still one of the most famous TV shows out there. There was nothing like that before there and, well, it was enough for people to love it. So... here comes the unofficial Russian adaptation.

And you know what? It's exactly like all others out there. Russians produced a lot of such books. Everybody who was lucky enough to have a friendly publisher used to write such nonsense. I'm not kidding, there were hundreds of such books. There were movies adaptations (like RoboCop), there were video games adaptations (Like X-COM)... This is one of such "books". The "books" that feel like cheep Chinese toys. Familiar images on the cover, a lot of dirt inside.

But what so bad about this exact book? The answer is - everything. Let's talk about the Pilot for example. It was turned into a book by Andrei Lazarchuk (who isn't even the worst Russian author to be honest, it's just he didn't really care this time) and you can easily feel what was wrong with post-USSR Russia back then. The book is based on homemade pirate translation of the series, which was wrong in oh-so-many places (such translations used to be made by random guys, who didn't really care either), the author didn't have any access to the official info and therefore got most of the most basic lore wrong (gun models are wrong and he didn't even get the fact that Fox Mulder eats sunflower seeds and not peanuts)... It's a mess. A complete mess. And the author really didn't add anything special from himself. It's just boring and poor re-telling of the pilot episode. Feels really bad and forced. Just because it is. Also, a lot of stupid Russian jokes included with no reason whatsoever. He even mentioned another unofficial Russian adaptation here. Yes, he did mention the freakin' Twin Peaks in The X-Files just because Twin Peaks was also adopted into such a "book"... It's just... I don't know, it's beyond good and evil. It's that bad. Awful reading, avoid as plague.
