Leap of the Lion

Rate this book
She shifts for the first time on the day of her escape.

After a decade of captivity, Darcy MacCormac escapes the corrupt, clandestine organization called the Scythe, leaving family and friends behind. She must find a way to rescue them. Discovered by other shifters, the brand-new cougar gets two mentors. Blademage Gawain is an easy-going blacksmith with a steel-hard core. His brother Owen is a deadly warrior. Grumpy. Rude. And he doesn’t like her.

They aren’t the mates she’d dreamed of—they’re more.

Powerful, dominating Owen protects the clan—especially the weak—and the only remnant of an abused childhood is his avoidance of females. Now he has to mentor one? Although Gawain soon falls for the dauntless little cat, Owen knows better than to lose his head. But Darcy has a gift for repairing everything…including damaged hearts.

Love isn’t in her destiny.

In the brothers’ arms, Darcy finds safety. Comfort. And love. But however much she longs for a future with Owen and Gawain, her people need her. Somehow, she must find the courage and skills to save them, even if the attempt demands her life

A New York Times and USA Today bestselling author, she’s renowned for writing heart-wrenching romances with laugh-out-loud dialogue, alpha males, and absolutely sizzling sex.

I met my dearheart when vacationing in the Caribbean. Now I won’t say it was love at first sight. Actually since he stood over me, enjoying the view down my swimsuit top, I might have been a tad peeved—as well as attracted. But although we were together less than two days and lived on opposite sides of the country, love can’t be corralled by time or space.

We’ve now been married for many, many years. (And he still looks down my swimsuit tops.)

Nowadays, I live in the west with this obnoxious, beloved husband and a seventy-pound lap-puppy. I’m a gardener, and I love nurturing small plants until they’re big and healthy and productive…and ripping defenseless weeds out by the roots when I’m angry. I enjoy thunderstorms, collecting eggs from the chickens, and visiting the local brewery for the darkest, maltiest beer on tap. My favorite way to spend an evening is curled up on a couch next to the master of my heart, watching the fire, reading, and…well…if you’re reading my books, you obviously know what else happens in front of fires.

Only humans would take two beautiful three-story brick manors and turn them into houses of horror.

Darcy MacCormac and her family together with other shifters have been prisoners/slaves for the Scythe organization. The males are used for military operations. The females (sisters and mates) are used for labour work and are kept locked so that the males will obey.
Darsy has been a prisoner for 10 years and she has never shifted. When she manages to escape, Cold Creek pack finds her and she manages to shift for the first time in her life.

Cosantir will order Owen and his brother Gawain to look after her and explain to her what being a female shifter means. Darsy, although she is happy in the pack, her only thoughts are her brothers and her friends who are Scythe's prisoners. Very soon the danger will reach the Cold Creek territory and the pack will need to fight back and save the prisoners.

The most interesting character in the story was definitely Owen. He is a cahir (warrior) who although he has protective instincts, he tries to avoid women. Owen had a horrible childhood, a mother who hated him and kept pushing him away. Now he is older, wiser and far away from his toxic mother. He loves his loneliness or this is what he thinks until his brother and Darsy become a part of his life.

“Was there ever a time Owen liked females, or was he born this way?”

I think the book could have been shorter, but it also had a few wonderful secondary stories that added pages like the pregnancy of Vicki (from Hour of the Lion).

“To cublings. The clan increases.”
Everyone lifted their glasses. “The clan increases.”

Can we have more stories, please?

This was why a male lived. Why he fought. To win a female’s love and keep her safe. For this female—for Darcy—he would willingly fight the entire world.

Two things happened almost simultaneously after I finished this book. One, I was kicking myself for a good two hours for not discovering this series before now. And two, I immediately went and one clicked the rest of these books.

There's just something so magical about Cherise Sinclair's writing, that no matter what she writes, it never fails to grab you and suck you right into its world. And even though I started this series with book 4, I had no problem at all getting imbedded in the deeply descriptive and rich world of Sinclair's shifters. Their language, their customs, their enemies, and their love life immediately caught my interest and kept me riveted to the pages until the end.

Darcy MacCormac is an incredible heroine. Here is a female that has seen and lived through atrocities at the hands of the evil Scythe organization during her ten years as their captive. She's seen her friends suffer at the hands of their experiments, she's seen friends die, and she's left with scars both internal and external. Yet, none of that diminished her strength and will to live. So when she has the chance to escape, she grabs it, for the chance to ultimately come back and rescue the rest of the shifter females still imprisoned by the Scythe.

Her escape brings her straight into a world that she was born into but due to her imprisonment knows very little about. Owen and Gawain, two brothers that helped rescue her from being recaptured and whose only thing in common is their blood, are assigned to be her trainers. They're to teach her to shift and control her abilities while keeping her safe and finding the Scythe compound.

Here are two men that couldn't be more different. Suffering their own individual scars of their past and a selfish and abusive mother has left them scattered. Owen is a gruff, grumpy protector who believes all women to be inherent liars. Gawain is a sweetheart that even though has every reason to avoid love, deep down yearns for it. And in the middle of it all is a female that makes them realize that perhaps a future full of love and passion is not so foreign.

Leap of The Lion is full of so much emotion, it was almost painful at times. Everything that Owen suffered in his past and everything that Darcy has gone through give them a bond unlike any other. Darcy makes Owen see beyond his past and realize that not all women are the same. I loved the slow built passion between the two. And then with Gawain in the mix as well? FORGET ABOUT IT.

I mean, a female with not one but TWO life mates? Sign me up for that. But don't think this is some gratuitous MFM non stop orgy. While the passion is definitely there, it's a slow burn. There's a lot of story that takes place, that admittedly I found slow at times. I understood the set up and the backstories needed to be told, but they did slow down the pace of the book considerably.

I loved the rest of the secondary characters and The Wild Hunt World. I really loved the romance, and I especially loved the story. There's so much that happened here besides the romance, but the romance was definitely center stage. If you're a fan of PNR, this is a series that simply must be read. I know I plan on going back and binging on it immediately.

I love, love, love the Wild Hunt Legacy series! It's the right combination of smut, complex but lovable characters and interesting plot not driven solely by lust. It's not for the faint of heart or those looking for a clean read but the explicit scenes aren't as many as in some of Ms. Sinclair's other books. Depending on why you picked this book up that could be seen as a bad thing but lately I find that I enjoy these longer more plot driven books.

What I like most about Leap of the Lion, and the rest of Ms. Sinclair's books for that matter, is that the male leads are alphas without being the stereotypical macho/asshole. Sure they have their assholy moments but as a general rule they're nice but tough guys. You know the kind that don't really exist in real life *sigh* The type that doesn't try to pretend their control-freak nature is just overprotectiveness. And that's something few authors can pull off.

LEAP OF THE LION is the fourth book in The Wild Hunt Legacy. If you’re knew to this series, then you may be surprised that this book is Paranormal Erotic Romance because to me, it feels like much more.

After suffering for a decade, Darcy MacCormac escapes the Scythe, leaving behind everything that she knew and loved. Thankfully, she is discovered by other shifters. But as a brand new cougar shifter herself, she had no idea what she has gotten herself into.

The heroes who find her are brothers and although they share the same blood, their personalities are very different from one another. Gawain is much more lighthearted than Owen yet Darcy is drawn to them both.

While the premise seems to sound a little simple, it’s not. Sinclair does an amazing job of evoking sympathy and emotion from her readers with this book. Just reading the first chapter is enough to have you bonding with the characters because they have already been through so much. There’s a darker tone to this book and I do think it’s possible that those who have suffered from abuse may find this as too intense. Unlike other Sinclair books, this one does put a lot of focus on their suffering, but I do believe that Sinclair handles it beautifully.

This book is a perfect example of why Cherise Sinclair is amongst the upper echelons of the genre. Her ability to evoke emotions from her readers and create characters that are timeless makes this book more than just your typical Paranormal Erotic Romance. This story is very much about healing and growth and I very much enjoyed reading every page.

Cherise’s stories are like old friends, every time you read them,it feels like getting a hug.
Ok,the relationships need a little time to build because of the past, but there’s warmth, there’s sweet moments, and personal growth.
Like with Darcy,Owen and Gawain.
What Darcy and so many others went through at the hands of the Scythe was enough to cause a lifelong trauma.
But she’s só strong,só determined to get everyone to safety,no matter what.
And she’s a breath of fresh air for Owen and Gawain who were both abused by their mother.
She makes them hope for a future as a family, even Owen, who’d been treated the worst….
Darcy’s courage, empathy, resilience, perseverance and sweet nature soothes the rough edges, and makes them want to do anything to make her happy.
And Darcy sees these two tormented brothers for who they are, sees past the rough and grumpy facade Owen shows females.
And she knows Gawain, even though he’s more…balanced….has been through a hell of his own.
Finding out the how, what and why makes her determined to show them they deserve every bit of happiness they can find.

But first they need to find her family and friends….and free them.
If that works, they’ll need a place to live, and that includes her brothers.
Having been separated for so long, how will they see her now?
And what will they make of Owen and Gawain??

WOW.....just WOW....Cherise,you did it again! Not that i had any doubt, but you keep giving...and giving....and giving all those beauties! This one tells the story of Darcy and the hell she went through most of her life, before she finally manages to escape. A really strong little shifter,a survivor, and to top it all she has such a sweet, caring heart for those around her. I absolutely adore her,i really do! And those mentors she gets....YUM! Also having had a tough life,Gawain and Owen are finally back together. Bonnie, their sister,is settled and out of danger,so they feel the time is right to settle down near her. What Darcy,Gawain and Owen learn from eachother.....and what kind of feelings start to brew.....you really need to find out! I loved their story and hope there are many more to follow!

Keeping it short once again.

The author is a solid writer and is entertaining with this series. Yeah so it is all a bit sweet and cheesy but hey it works. If it ain't broke then it don't necessarily needs to be fixed.

As always, Cherise Sinclair provides a finely crafted book with fascinating characters, an intriguing plot, scorching hot sex, and total satisfaction with the outcome.

This is the story of Owen, the shifter cougar who appeared in the earlier books in the Wild Hunt Series. He is portrayed there and here as a grumpy misogynist, but an honest man who protects others at the risk of his own life.

He has reasons for his hatred of women-his mother was abusive toward him, but it takes a young shifter whose feelings he hurt to make him see he tars all women with the same brush-just what he accuses women of doing. That insight opens the way for him to see the truth about Darcy, a mountain shifter who managed to escape the prison where she and other members of her village have been held for a decade. Because of the captivity, Darcy knows little about the shifter way of life, and the shifter leader assigns Owen and his brother Gawain, to mentor her. Both brothers begin falling for the young woman, but the group that held her and still holds her brothers and other villagers hostage aren't going to stop looking for her. Terrified of bringing trouble to the town that took her in, can Darcy make a commitment to the two men who care for her? And how will she react when danger threatens?

The author carries us into a world of her own creation, but one we can almost see and feel. We expect to see people shift into animal form in a tangle of clothes. The book also catches us up on some of the characters from the earlier books and its like running into old friends. My only complaint is that we don't get to see enough of Gawain. He intrigued me in one of the earlier books, and I looked forward to knowing more about him in this one, but he's almost a throwaway character.

As with the previous books in the series, expect a hot menage, paranormal romance, and people who make you want to find them and give them a hug.

Much like the previous books but stepped up a notch with the villains. They are pretty ott villains, just there in the story to be evil.
Darcy escapes captivity by spontaneously shifting for the first time.
The story dives right into it.
I liked the two love interests in this one, who were litter mates. I loved the way Owen learned to open up for Darcy. Their mom was horrible!
It's entertaining in a cheesey way.
I did think the author was pretty sensitive to the dark elements of he story, in her usual black and white way.
I also liked that their romance wasn't insta, but there wasn't really any OP stuff.

Safety is pretty good.

If you are into paranormal series, you are missing out if you haven’t treated yourself to Cherise Sinclair’s The Wild Hunt Legacy series. Centered around a small town filled with shifters, these books are full of action, emotions, some tough situations, and loads of chemistry. Each can be easily read as a standalone but I’d start from the beginning with Hour of the Lion just because you don’t want to miss any of the strong heroines and their hot, growly heroes. Cherise Sinclair has a knack for writing books that are not only seriously sexy but jam-packed with characters that have to navigate emotionally and physically difficult situations. Needless to say, I’ve been impatiently waiting for Leap of the Lion, had hugely high hopes for it and wasn’t disappointed in the least.

All three main characters have serious issues they are dealing with. Owen and Gawain are brothers raised in an abusive home with Owen taking the brunt of the abuse from their batshit crazy mother. If that wasn’t heartbreaking enough, we are brought along for the ride as Darcy escapes from an evil group called the Scythe, who had imprisoned an entire town’s worth of shifters for years. The females are being held as hostages in order to force the males to carry out missions for the group. The females are dying off at an alarming rate and if Darcy can’t get help soon, all will be lost, especially for her brothers.

I loved Darcy. She was strong and unbelievably brave, willing to do anything to save her people even if it meant putting herself back into the very danger she escaped from. She was hardworking and loyal, and extremely smart, learning how to not only be a Daonain but also all the rules that went along with it. It’s good she was assigned two sexy, growly, and knowledgeable mentors to help her along.

As much as I loved Darcy (and Gawain too) it was Owen who completely stole my heart. He was growly, grumpy and, because of his issues with his mother, a borderline misogynist. A Cahir, or god chosen warrior for his people, he was perfectly suited for keeping his people safe from harm but his attitude needed some serious work.

Gawain was a blade mage, which made him physically tough, but it was his laid-back attitude that made him an imminently more suitable choice of mentor for Darcy, although the task of was given to them both. I think Gawain was the voice of reason, a calming influence for both Owen and Darcy.

The more Owen and Gawain got to know their new charge, the more they wanted her no matter how hard Owen fought it. As for Darcy, she developed feelings for her mentors, but she knew as soon as she had control of her newfound cougar, she needed to go help her people.

These three had lots of lessons to learn, from trust, to control, to how to forgive oneself. Leap of the Lion was an action-packed emotional journey, and although a slow burn at first, it was hot as Hades too. I can’t wait to see what happens next for the characters in The Wild Hunt Legacy.

Review to come. Review below. Probably after thanksgiving or tonight if I have time.

I enjoyed the book, but I also disliked some things. It also was fairly long.

I'm not sure how I really feel about this one. I love Cherise Sinclair and recommend her often. This book however was a tad boring. I was disappointed with the sex scenes usually Sinclair can craft an excellent scene, get you really into the moment. In this book though I felt like some of the scenes were very repetitive, and not so sexy. Some parts were still hot of course, but it didn't have that emotional component I usually feel in her books.

The concept of the story is something I'm getting sick of. I'm sick of the anti-shifter humans being the driving force of shifter books. Breed Series has it, New Species has it, freaking Phoenix Pack has it. It's getting old, and I was hoping for better with this book. I'm disappointed that this is the direction that it went. I wish it would have been something different. I loved Owen and Gawain, they were sweet characters.

Overall the book was enjoyable, just a bit boring too.

I'm still loving this series and seeing some lonely guys find their mate. Darcy was so strong and desperately wanted to help her people. She feels guilty for being happy after she escapes but Owen and Gawain are hard to resist.
Loved the action adventure of the rescue.

A light paranormal menage romance that follows the formula of the previous books of the series.

Darcy escapes from the a secret human organizations prison and gets noticed by other Daonain shifters and brought to the community of Cold Creek. The organization, the Scythe, has been using shifter soldiers for their own purposes and controlling them by keeping their female relatives in prison. As she escapes Darcy shifts for the first time, and there's a lot to learn for a new shifter as well as about Daonain society in general. Her mentors in this process are cat-shifter brothers Gawain and Owen Treharn and once all three are together the series formula plays out.

This series is about nice people being nice to each other in a really pleasant place. The antagonists are all implacably evil, but no real match for the heroes of the series and they're mostly just injected here and there for a bit of drama. This is not to be dismissive though; the series is fun and pleasant to read, and makes a great break between heavier stuff.

This is an entertaining series. Each book has a more serious plot, and a solid romance. Without re-reading, I think there are fewer erotic scenes than in the previous books.

The writing is strong, and the numerous characters are well defined, and their shifter characteristics are consistent with their natural forms. Also, the monthly Gathering dynamics are explored in more depth here, which was enjoyable.

The settings are very well detailed, though sometimes I get lost in the woods - the various locations arre not always obvious from a north/south/east/west perspective, but it doesn't really matter. In this book, a Sinister Organization is discovered, which will provide a long-term arc for the series.

I will read the next book when it becomes available.

There is one scene missing from this book that was in the others, but I leave it to the readers to discover it.

Awesome story

I've been looking forward to reading the next book in this series since Eventide of the Bear and was pleased to find it just as good, if not better. This is no surprise since Cherise Sinclair is a talented author. Owen, Gawain and Darcy make interesting protagonists with their individual quirks. This will be a book that I reread regularly.

The Delight
Leap of the Lion is packed with excitement and intrigue that had me gripping my Kindle not knowing what would happen next. This making me crave a new book in the series. I need more!

Review
Darcy MacCormac escapes a evil organization called the Scythe after a decade of imprisonment. Her family and friends have died or are dying and she needs to rescue the ones still left. Injured and trapped in a park, shifters come to rescue her. This was her first shift and now she doesn't know how to shift back. Owen takes her back to his territory, where she is forced to shift back to human form. Assigned two mentors, Darcy charms them with her tinkering ways.

Grumpy Cahir Owen and Blademage Gawain are brothers seperated for decades, now together again. The litters mother is a piece of work. She loved one son beyond measure, tolerated her daughter Bonnie and Gawain, but abused and hated Owen beyond reason. When the favorite is murdered, their lives become even more broken. The mother blames Owen for it, Gawain blames himself, and Bonnie was already being mentored by their aunt. To keep his sister protected, Gawain stayed and took care of their mother in return she left Bonnie and Owen alone. Now their sister has her own mates, Gawain is done and moves to be near his brother and repair their bond.

Owen doesn't like women. Bonnie is a fine sister, and he respected the mated women, but those that are single are only good for the Gathering, not as a mate and not as a companion. Little by little as he gets to know Darcy, Owen imprissoned heart starts to melt. Darcy is all that is innocent and good, but she is also impatient wanting to free her brothers and friends.

Most shifters can't stand metal, but Gawain was chosen by the God to be a Blademage, making special blades and lifemate bands. The Mothers love flows through him when he creates the metal pieces for his community.

The two brothers find a home, and make it their own. Gawain is ready to find a lifemate, it just takes Owen some more time. Throw ins the chances none of them will survive the hunt for their people, this turns into a story of what different kinds of love will do to us, how they form us and what love can do to heal us.

Throw in Vicki from book one (Alec and Callum's mate) is pregnant and about to pop. That is a whole nether side that gripped you by the proverbial balls and wouldn't let go. Overall, the personalities of these characters are what keep me coming back for more. Yes, I want more. I need the healers story and Darcy's brother's story and more!

Solid three Star MFM read.

The whole story was a bit predictable and unoriginal to my liking, but was a decent entertaining book.
Unfortunately the heroine, who was introduced with a really good, interesting start, acted seriously dumb and way too young for her experience.
Her recovery after 12? years in prison wasn‘t done too well, but I know by know that the author doesn‘t put too worth in psychological aspects like trauma therapy etc.

Still not a fan of the Gathering.

I have to say, when I heard that Owen was getting his own book, I was so happy! I mean, getting our very own cranky kitty to fall in love, I just knew it would be quite the fun to have him fall for someone. And the sweetest part, when he fell, he didn't even resist, Darcy was that perfect for him, once he knew he was a goner, he accepted his fate

Now, that doesn't mean he fell easily, he still had a few bumps to get over. With his brother Gawain beside him, he didn't even to push at him. Gawain was always the level headed one, and he figured things out pretty quickly. Even then, he made sure to keep Owen by his side the whole way

Darcy had a lot more resistance. She had given up on her life being her own, on her having life mates a long time ago. With Owen and Gawain at her side, she gets stronger each day, but needs some convincing to make things all work out

We get to see some of the couples that came before, but if you didn't read their books, don't worry, you can follow along. We have a woman who has experienced such loss, it nearly paralyzes her, but she is willing to live life at the moment. A man who has been hurt by those who the one who supposed to nurture him. His brother, who sacrificed his own life so his siblings could be left alone by the one who would have manipulated and abused them. They all fit together, they all will make you cry, make you laugh, and make you root for them to be there for each other and make it to the end!

• I really liked this book and the plots in this series aren’t repetitive or dull at all

• The characters in the book were good and I liked how Gawain and Owen had to teach Darcy how to survive in her panther form; I liked seeing the main characters from the other books, especially seeing Vicki and her mates

• The plot was interesting as it was different from the other books and I liked how at the end they were able to find the prisons but I thought that there should have been more about the shifters being rescued and where they were going to go/what they were going to do

• I want to see a book about Darcy’s brothers when/if they finally settle down in Cold Creek and I want to see them getting to know their sister again and how they will interact; another character I want to have their own book is Heather as in this book there was a small bit where it was from her POV and now I want to see her story, so I’m hoping that it means that she will get a book

Darcy has escaped from « prison », where she has been held hostage for the past decade by human traffickers : the women imprisoned and mistreated, the men sent on errands separated from their littermates and used for their strength.
She escaped in the hopes to find help and free the others.

She has never trawsfured, so when she escapes and trawsfurs into a cougar in the middle of the city she hides. This is where the Cahir Owen finds her and brings her back to Cold Creek. Callum the Cosantir assigns Owen and Gawain to teach Darcy the ways of the Daonain since she has been taken as a pup.
As the time passes, feelings deveop between Darcy and the littermates but she doesn’t forget her mission and is determined to go back and free the others.

This was yet another great addition to the series, I loved most of all seeing glimpses of pregnant Vicky and her men, they are my favorite « couple » so far.
It is always a pleasure to revisit this world.

Loved this story. Poor Owen and Darcy and Gawain had hard childhoods but that is what made them great together. I love seeing a strong female as long as she isn't a bitch and Darcy was so sweet but wow was she a lioness.
Great story and now I want Donal, Tynan and Heather ; O

A bit dull

I enjoy Sinclair's books but this one was on the dull side. Well written but not that interesting. She has other books that are much better.

This is a series I like to read once in a while, very family orientated but also with some super horny sex scenes which I don't mind. The menage relationship seem very practical in this book.
I loved Darcy! Owen and Gawain, are good guys so I'm happy for them lol

I welcome the inclusion of the Scythe.
The threat of the Hellhounds had started to become a bit repetitive.
Darcy is a well-rounded and likable and her story is a great one.
