Gorgeous color art from Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece! The first three Color Walk art books collected into one beautiful compendium.
Color images and special illustrations from the world’s most popular manga, One Piece! This compendium features over 300 pages of beautiful color art as well as interviews between the creator and other famous manga artists, including Akira Toriyama, the creator of Dragon Ball.
This first volume covers the early parts of the series—from the East Blue arc where the main characters of the Straw Hat pirates first meet, to the Skypiea arc where Luffy and friends face their greatest adventures yet!
Eiichiro Oda (尾田栄一郎, Oda Eiichirō) is a Japanese manga artist, best known as the creator of the manga and anime One Piece.
As a child, Oda was inspired by Akira Toriyama's works and aspired to become a manga artist. He recalls that his interest in pirates was probably sparked by the popular TV animation series titled Vicky the Viking. He submitted a character named Pandaman for Yudetamago's classic wrestling manga Kinnikuman. Pandaman was not only used in a chapter of the manga but would later return as a recurring cameo character in Oda's own works.

A collection of the color walk art done by Eiichiro Oda, this is primarily all art pieces with snippets of author commentary in-between chapters. I liked the Early Days which includes his old drawings of pirates. You can see similarities in character design with a gun slinger proto Zolo, mecha-armed Nami with a battle axe and Chopper as a tall, limber swordsman on traditional geta sandals (and an immensely wide spread pair of antlers). My favorite were the Monochrome Talk interviews at the end with other authors Akira Toriyama, half of the duo Fujiko Fujio (Motoo Abiko), and Yoshitaka Amano.
This is just the most lovely book to look through. Every page is such a joy, the colouring techniques are inspiring, and I loved the interviews with other artists and mangaka at the back!
This compendium covers the first three color walks drawn by the creator of One Piece, Eiichiro Oda. While the individual color walks were released in Japan, this is the first time that color walks 1, 2, and 3 have been released in English. This is primarily an art book, with color spreads you Oda shown in chronological order in a beautifully created hardcover book.
The art is great to look at, and one of my favorite things to observe with Oda’s work is his take on perspective. The contrast between foreground and background is especially prominent in many of the color spreads.
If you are a fan of One Piece or enjoy anime/manga art style, then this should just be an automatic buy. What are you waiting for?
I really enjoyed seeing the colored illustrations from the early volumes of the manga. It’s such a nostalgic experience, taking us back to the moments we first read and loved.
What I also found fascinating were the sketches and early drawings by Eiichiro Oda. It’s incredible to see how his art has evolved over time and to get a glimpse of the creative process behind one of the greatest manga series.
This collection is a must-have for any One Piece fan, offering a deeper appreciation for both the story and the artistry behind it.
I love One Piece so when i heard that this artbook will be released i was so excited! The art is beautiful and the draft earlier sketches of the characters enlighten us as to what the mangaka Eichiiro Oda was thinking when he created these characters!
