Yona suspects something strange is going on between the Fire Tribe and the Kai Empire. She and the crew leave Kai to further investigate matters.
Not a lot happens in this volume. It feels like for the most part, Yona and her crew are just waiting around. This volume was mainly build up for the next one. As for the side characters, it’s always been pretty obvious Kang Su-jin is vying for the throne, so I was interested in seeing his plans come to fruition. We also get to spend time with the first son, Kyo-ga, and it was nice seeing the person Tae-jun is always referring to. I was also happy to spend a bit of time back with Tae-jun, he’s come such a long way since we first met him, and he and his followers are adorable, especially Heuk-chi. I’m also glad to see this volume tying into the previous Su-won arc, and that Su-won’s efforts with the Earth Tribe appear to have paid off. I also just love Yoon so much during this reread, his interactions with Yona are so endearing, and she really brings out his softer more vulnerable side. I do have to say though, that something I’ve never really liked about Yona is how reckless she is. It’s always bothered me that she’s essentially putting the lives of the others in danger without ever really thinking things through.
As for that bonus chapter, poor Jaeha, the way he reluctantly is always looking out for everyone, it makes him my favourite dragon.
