Maya
Sofia Taylor awakes from a car accident to find her world has been turned upside down. An Anima has taken her identity and trapped her on the other side. Sofia must find a way to stop the Anima and return home, before it is too late. But, other forces are at play and Sofia must learn, as quickly as possible, how things are governed in the underworld. With the lord of the underworld hot her tails, Sofia seeks the guidance from the higher council, a collection of celestial beings. However, no one can help her, not even a fallen angel. She navigates her way around the lower realms, with two tortured souls and the higher council, all racing to uncover the Anima's plan. All of them suffer a rude awakening.

3.5 stars!
I enjoyed this. Reading the first chapter, I wasn't sure I was going to like this but by the end of the second chapter, I was back in!
Overall, it was a good concept and a well thought out book. It was a good mixture of mythologies and ideologies and I enjoyed it. I look forward to any of the author's future writing.

Maya is the story of a woman (not named Maya) who is evicted from her body by a spirit (also not named Maya) who should have known better.
So... what is Maya? Maya is the group of planes which include the physical world and the planes inhabited by souls who haven't progressed far enough in their enlightenment to ascend to the higher planes; these souls have to be judged and re-incarnated in the physical plane over and over until they learn their lessons. I won't go into it any deeper than that so as not to spoil any possible surprises.
This modern urban fantasy presents a mixture of multiple mythologies and religions into an interesting melange. It follows a woman trying to find her way back to her body and her family. Luckily for her, she has the support of a variety of beings, some powerful and some not. Unfortunately for her, she’s locked in that cycle of birth and re-birth. Her eviction from her body shifts her to a plane she doesn’t understand and embroils her in conflicts beyond her level of comprehension.
The story itself is good.
The editing is not. The book has a variety of problems that some good editors could help resolve, not simply typos and grammar foibles, but content level issues with point of view and story development and other things like tone and setting.
This story is good but it could be much better.

Maya by Isabella Bedi is a great story.
After a near-fatal car accident, Sofia Taylor’s soul is ripped from her body and sent to the Underworld while an Anima (another soul) takes up residence in her still living body. A first-time occurrence for such a feat has sent ripples through the planes, and everyone has a stake in the results. Sofia must elude the ruler of the Underworld and all his minions to find out why this had happened and how to undo it.
Isabella Bedi has managed to create a wonderful story that explains why the world is suffering and why humans suffer as a vivid and feasible backdrop to Sofia’s story.
This author can write. Her descriptions and metaphors are wonderful. The ending is amazing.
This would have been 5 stars except for some editorial bumps.

With lovable characters and a deep and complex mythology, Maya is a story that will keep you guessing til the end.
As a breakout novel by the budding Isabella Bedi, it promises great things for the future. She is definitely one to keep an eye on.

She refuses to be held against her will. She breaks free of her abductor and sets out to learn how to escape the underworld. On her journey to find freedom she joins forces with a group that she hopes will be her ticket out of the hellish world.
Will Sofia be strong enough to find her way back to her home? Or will the Anima overpower her and destroy her existence?
MAYA is one outstanding book!!! From the first page I discovered a high intense drama that set the stage perfectly for a well-developed novel. The characters each have their own fresh and powerful voice that commands the reader to follow them to the end.
Isabella Bedi has convinced me that she is a very talented author. I knew from the first chapter of her book that I was not reading the works of an amateur. I feel this book would make the excellent start of a series. I could easily see more stories coming forward from characters in this book. I highly recommend her writing and feel the literary world is rejoicing to have gained a gifted author.

Isabella Bedi’s novel impressed me as a reader down to the last page, as she came
up with a full-figured and original language transposed in a captivating fantasy
context.
What I most enjoyed, was the dose of unpredictability that the author managed to infuse through a puzzling plot (Sophia’s story) and characters portrayed by
uniqueness, and the one of freshness added to the classical New York background, all starting at a first view with a banal accident in which the protagonist was involved.
I found “Maya” as a real challenge comparing to what I experience before in reading fantasy and, if at the first view seemed like a novel for kids, I would more recommend it to the teen readers and of course, to the fantasy fan genres. It’s a must read!
