Take 1 wedding. Add fangs, fur, and fairy dust… stir.
A wedding phobic in a family of wedding planners… Alex Bennett’s life is complicated enough, until she discovers their clients aren’t exactly human. Paranormals exist, and when weddings are sabotaged, Alex will stop at nothing to save the business — even partnering with a sexy investigator with secrets of his own.
A paranormal with no powers… Devin Cole is guilty until proven innocent. His powers have been placed in a supernatural time out until his upcoming trial. He doesn’t have time to investigate a runaway bride case. But the bride is a supermodel who also happens to be supernatural, so he has to handle damage control. His biggest concern — a tempting woman who insists on being part of the investigation.
Can a wedding phobic and a powerless paranormal work together to solve the case while finding their own fairy-tale… or faery-tale… happy ever after?
Growing up a TV junkie, award winning author AE Jones oftentimes rewrote endings of episodes in her head when she didn’t like the outcome. She immersed herself in sci-fi and soap operas. But when Buffy hit the little screen she knew her true love was paranormal. Now she spends her nights weaving stories about all variation of supernatural—their angst and their humor. After all life is about both…whether you sport fangs or not.
AE won RWA’s Golden Heart® Award for her paranormal manuscript, Mind Sweeper, which also was a RWA RITA® finalist for both First Book and Paranormal Romance. AE was also a recipient of the Booksellers Best Award for her book, Sentinel Lost.
AE lives in Ohio surrounded by her eclectic family and friends who in no way resemble any characters in her books. Honest. Now her two cats are another story altogether.
This story was absolutely adorable. All the quirky supernaturals kept me continuously giggling and smiling.
Alex Bennett was left at the alter. That experience made her developed a phobia for weddings. It was so bad, she had to take a break from her grandmother's wedding planning business.
With the help from her therapist, she eventually was able to come back to work. Unfortunately, there were larger things she had to worry about. Someone was sabotaging the weddings. Well... the supernatural weddings.
It was a crash course for Alex. Frog demons, bird demons, vampires... the list went on.
While her head was spinning, Devin and his team were hired to help solve the mystery. Too bad he's a supernatural without any powers. The magistrates took them away until his trial.
I couldn't get enough of Alex and Devin. Even though Alex was sometimes a bit obtuse, her personality was cute and endearing.
"How can one beautiful, stubborn woman wreak so much havoc without even realizing it?"
In Sickness and in Elf was so fun, I couldn't put it down. The next book will be about Alex's best friend, Sheila. I can't wait to get my hands on it!
From The Book Junkie Reads . . . In Sickness and in Elf (Paranormal Wedding Planners, #1) . . . I love the characters. They are well developed, rich and very entertaining. I was greatly intrigued by paranormal wedding planners with one of them having a fear of weddings. I did understand her and enjoy getting to know Alex and Devin, a paranormal with no power.
These two had me turning the pages just to see what was coming next. It was not just them. I felt engaged with most all the characters that were introduced. I laughed a lot. I had so much fun reading. I found it to be much more than Alex and Devin. It was their family, friends, and acquaintances.
Paranormal romance weddings and all get a riotous roll down the aisle in this must read hilarious encounter of one meeting their fears head on. I will be reading this one again. Especially when the next one comes out. I am eagerly anticipating it. **This ARC was provided via IndieSage PR in exchange for an honest review.**
I really enjoyed the first book in this series and eagerly await the next one. The characters are all unique and well-developed, the plot is engaging and the premise unique and fun. I love A.E. Jones' voice and sense of humor. Great read!!
This was an unexpected Freebie gem. Alex (heroine) is a mess of anxiety she is determined to overcome with an inner monologue that can be LOL. The story itself veers between mystery/suspense and rom-com in a surprisingly workable fashion. The excellant build up of emotional and sexual tension between Alex and Devin made the steamy bits satisfying. Devin's self-flagellation got a bit old, dragging down the narrative, but otherwise, super fun.
Super fun, quick read with just the kind of light-hearted humor I was looking for. Fantastic high jinx and paranormal quirkiness reminiscent of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
The title was the first thing that grabbed my attention about this book because I love the paranormal genre and it intrigued me enough to read the synopsis and once I did - I couldn't wait to read it! I'm so glad that I saw In Sickness and In Elf because it was truly amazing and I absolutely, positively loved it. In fact, it is the best paranormal book that I've read outside of my favorite paranormal authors like Kresley Cole and Sherrilyn Kenyon!
It seems like it's been a theme with me to read about heroes that are a little too good and honorable lately and Devin fit right in with them. I love that hot, sexy elf but he definitely had that whole overprotective, selfless thing going on that I loved and appreciated but at the same time made me want to shake some sense and selfishness into him. Devin's very stubborn and good, but one thing that I really loved about him and made up for everything was how he listened to Alex, and his friends occasionally, and he compromised with her on a lot of things and believed in her. Dev is a great hero who will drive you crazy but will make you love him and be worth it.
It doesn't happen to me often, but in this case, I loved the heroine more than the hero! And can you really blame me?! Alex is strong, stubborn, sassy, and funny. She's brave and smart and a little devious and sneaky. Alex kept me amused and entertained pretty much the whole time and while I loved that - I loved seeing her grow into the strongest, best woman she could be more. I'm can't tell you how glad I am that I got to meet her - she is totally wonderful and I wholeheartedly LOVED her!
I was expecting In Sickness and In Elf to be a good read, but once I started reading it, it blew my expectations right out of the water! It was new, well-developed, and every aspect of it just came together. I completely connected to the story and the characters and I never wanted to stop reading. It was fun and full of mystery with some heartache, lies, secrets, and betrayal thrown in.
In Sickness and In Elf was more sweet than steamy and normally that would really disappoint and frustrate me because I love my sexy times, but this book was just so good that I didn't mind and even though it's not very steamy that doesn't mean that it lacks passion because it has a whole lot of it. There is so much passion and heart in this book that there was never a dull moment and it's without a doubt one of the best paranormal books I've read this year! It was beyond incredible and not only can I not wait to read the next book in the Paranormal Wedding Planners series - I can't wait to read more of Ms. Jones period!
In Sickness and In Elf is the first book in this series, it's mostly told in Devin and Alex's POV, and although they get their HEA, the ending will leave you wanting to read the next book!
Ever since I first saw the movie starring Jennifer Lopez and Matthew McConaughey , I have always been fascinated by Wedding Planners and then of course 27 Dresses came along and that was another favourite wedding movie. The other thing as I love organising things, wedding planning has always sounded like an amazing job to get into. So when I saw AE Jones's new book up for grabs , I knew I had to review it and I loved it. A little slow in places though but that was made up by the storyline as we meet Alex Bennett whose family for years has been running a Wedding Planning business and they are the best at what they do . She is in line to inherit and take over the business and all goes well, until she ends up being left at the altar which causes Alex to turn wedding phobic and have panic attacks at the sound of the first bar of the wedding march. Just as Alex starts to get back into the swing of things and ease herself back into the Wedding Planning business, strange things start happening and we discover someone is sabotaging her Grandmother's business . As Alex starts to dig deeper , she discovers a whole new side of her Grandmother's business that she never knew existed as her Grandmother specialises in planning unusual weddings and by unusual she means Weddings for the Paranormal. It seems that all the weddings that are being targeted fall under the Paranormal Umbrella. Can Alex team up with Devin Cole - a Paranormal outsider with temporarily no powers to solve the crimes and what will happen when Alex's past and even family history are brought into question ? Find out in this fun and fast-paced Paranormal/Supernatural Holy Matrimony Read "In Sickness and In Elf" by AE Jones.
In the first entry in AE Jones’ new Paranormal Wedding Planners series, In Sickness and in Elf, Alex Bennett returns reluctantly to her grandmother’s bridal business. Left at the altar two years earlier, Alex has developed a downright phobia about weddings, but when her grandmother asks for her help, she can hardly refuse. Turns out she doesn’t know the half of her family business, Bennett Bridal, until she sees a runaway bride turn into something else entirely.
When Devin Cole shows up to investigate, Alex finds him arrogant, annoying, and just about irresistible. Devin has his own problems—stripped of his paranormal powers until proven innocent of fault in a disastrous earlier investigation, he faces a tribunal which he’s really not prepared for. He doesn’t have time to solve the problems at Bennett Bridal, especially not with the infuriating and oh-so-tempting Alex insisting on helping.
Bennett Bridal’s San Diego, it seems, is teeming with vampires, werewolves, and countless varieties of demons, all hankering to get married. But who is determined enough to prevent marriages between paranormals and humans to resort to sabotaging the weddings? Alex and Devin better figure that out before Bennett Bridal goes down, and takes Happily Ever After with it.
In Sickness and in Elf is a delightfully fun read, and Jones promises a sequel, From This Fae Forward soon. I’ll be watching for it.
With this book, AE Jones introduces a cast of new characters and explores the question of what a paranormal wedding might look like. I really enjoyed it and am especially grateful that it doesn't end on a cliffhanger since I imagine it might be some time before the next book is released. If you haven't tried this author yet, I highly recommend you try this or her Mind Sweeper series.
What a wonderful book, and a great start to a new series, I cannot wait to get my hands on the next book. This was my first book from Author A.E. Jones, but will not be my last. This book was extremely engaging, I could not put it down. I had to know what was happening next. So much so before I knew it, it was 8am and I had finished the book.
This story is centered on Alex and her Grandmother’s Bridal Company. Everything is going along fine till the Bride runs. Worried for the woman unlike her bride’s maids Alex chases after her and what happens next has Alex questioning her sanity. She does not know what to do but defiantly not going to tell the cops she dove in the ocean and same away and when she surfaced was no longer human, they would all think she is nuts. And she has to make sure her grandma’s business.
Then Peggy, Assistant to Alex’s grandma list the help of Devin, an Elf, but he no longer has his powers. Having them rescinded until his upcoming trial. But that will not stop him from helping them out. As they find a pattern of sabotage, that they can them try and catch the bad guys. And Alex learns to cope with the knowledge that their supernaturals are real, and some are closer then she ever knew. But as the go Alex and Devin seem to be at each others throats. And as they go on become more drawn to one another. When the Bad guy is raveled you will not believe who it is. And what they do to Alex is just wrong. But in the end the biggest surprise is Handed out buy Alex’s Grandma, and what a big one that is.
Now before I ruin this for you I will leave off here. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did. If you do like this book, please consider leaving a review. The Authors really like it when you do; they value your opinions too.
There's a bit if a Molly Harper give to the story, and it plays well. The only thing that really bugged me is the use of psychiatrist, when the character is either a psychologist or a therapist. Psychiatrists prescribe meds. They went to medical school. Psychologists and therapists have 50 minute sessions where you talk and they listen and ask insightful questions. Psychiatrists ask about any intended or unintended effects of the drug they prescribed. If you are getting therapy, a good psych talks to your therapist about your treatment, too. That said, I love that in this series (I came in at book 3), therapy is cast as a positive and effective treatment for anxiety and grief.
All that said, the bad guys are very bad and the good guys are obnoxious cave men who are easy to like anyway. The women are all smart and pretty. The Others are a wide, wide range of beings. My favorite were the bird...people. The discussions of how to accommodate each creatures needs for their wedding were funny and creative.
Alex was abandoned at the alter, and ever since has had a phobia about attending wedding ceremonies. Unfortunately her grandmother has a wedding planning business and wants Alex to inherit it. Alex has returned to help out in the business since someone has been sabotaging the weddings. Enter Devin who is an extremely hot, stubborn, bossy, in charge alpha male. He has been called in by his sister to solve the problem. Unfortunately (or possibly fortunately), Devin has met his match with Alex who is an extremely beautiful, stubborn, determined, unfiltered woman. The back and forth dialogue between them is very entertaining. The characters are quite realistic. I feel like I'm on the team working the case with them. I like how the team and their friends disdain and work against prejudice. I look forward to the next book.
A soft entry into the supernatural through a cozy, clean mystery that ends with a happily ever after. After being left at the altar, weddings are not Alex's favourite place. Unfortunately, she is heiress to a famous wedding planning business and can't avoid them forever no matter how hard she tries. Devin is a power-bound elf who is determined to unmask the gang who killed his brother and his team mate. He doesn't have time for a stubborn, argumentative wedding planner who doesn't even know the supernatural exists. Together Alex and Devin need to discover who is sabotaging supernatural weddings and why. A cozy, paranormal read that was a good palate cleanser between much darker reads for me. The villain was a good twist but Alex's familial revelation was something I had predicted. Satisfying conclusion, if a little cliche.
Such a fun read! It's gonna hook you in with the mystery PLUS all otherworldly supernaturals weddings and mayhem? THIS. IS. EVERYTHING!
I really liked the story here, though I could not care less with the heroine as she sometimes irritate the hell out of me, I liked how well developed and likable the side characters here were — which makes me wanna read Shiela and Charlie's book, they're enemies — mortal, spanning from a millennia or so, to lovers and their interaction in this first book was chef's kiss!
Read this if you're down for a cute, light story to pass the time! It can definitely entertain you with the mystery factor!
Now, ON TO FROM THIS FAE FORWARD book 2 of the Paranormal Wedding Planners series!
This was a reasonably entertaining read. The Heroine wasn't all that likeable, but I've read worse. It was basically a romance with a little supernatural. There was, at least, a varied group of supernatural species. I wasn't driven to read it straight through like I would if I was totally involved with the plotline, but it was certainly a decent read.
I am rounding my 3-1/2 stars up to 4, because it was a complete HEA without a cliffhanger for this particular relationship. The next book, according to the teaser at the end of this book, will be about this main character's best friend.
[Disclaimer: I'm lazy and will use a tweaked version of this review for the other 2 in the series I've read.] I really enjoyed this book. So much so that I read the other 2 that are out, before even getting to this review. The series has a nice element of romance and humor, but what really got me was the world she has built. The characters and world are well written and there is "meaning" if you will in this series. Usually when someone tries to bury a message in my paranormal romance, it's annoying but AE Jones does it well. I'm incredibly excited about the upcoming 4th book. If paranormal romance is your genre- this series is worth the read.
I enjoyed this sweet quirky story. The characters are fun to spend time with. And the dialogue is delightful. But I have to be honest with myself. I expected a higher level of writing from someone who has published as much as A. E. Jones has. I had a hard time keeping the characters straight, which was jarring when characters we were introduced to in the early stages of the story were brought back in the story at a later point without warning. And the plot, as it unfolded was so blatantly obvious there was no point wondering what would happen next.
This is the 2nd book I have read from this author the first was the first book in her other series. I loved this book it had so many different quirky supernaturals in it, that it made it adorable. There was also action and suspense in it and a big ole shock at the end. You wanna know what that shock is you will have to read it for yourself. I can not wait to read the rest of this series. I received a free copy of this book and volunteered to review it.
I loved this book. This is the first book I have read by this author and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It had everything I like in a book, mystery, intrigue, humor, romance, passion, etc. The two main characters fit well together. He is the one who loves control and she is the one who hates being told what to do by him. Oil and water. Lol. It's a wonderful book that had my attention to the very last page. Looking forward to the next one.
I really enjoyed this book. The writing pace was good, the characters were likeable and believable and although I had kinda guessed at one of the big reveal twists the other was a good surprise, which doesn't happen to me that often. My brain had been going down a different route involving wigs and double crossing, which it wasn't.
This was my first time reading a book by this author and I'd definitely read more.
A very enjoyable read. A wedding phobic wedding planner who suddenly stumbles onto the truth of supernatural beings all around her. As she’s thrown into this strange new world to try and save her grandmother’s business she discovers a surprising truth about herself. Action, adventure and supernatural fun rolled into one.
Don't be discouraged by the title or the cover, it's not overly sweet or chatty, but a good and entertaining investigation/romance that happens to revolve around weddings. It does have one or two chapters near the end that seem rushed and half-hearted, but overall it is really well written and kind of addicting.
I loved it. Usually I don't like paranormal stories; they're too dark and evil. But this was different and fun to figure out or to be told how different species act and get along with others. Bridezillas in any form can be fun crazy or too over the top. Try it especially if paranormal isn't your thing. FUN!
This was my first book by AE Jones and I picked it up 1) because it was free on Amazon and 2) because it looked super cute. I liked the story but felt it dragged on in places. It definitely didn't hold my attention all the way through. I'm going to try book #2 in this series and make my mind on continuing the series/author.
I really loved the title so I had to give it a go. I really enjoyed it, some of the dialogue did get repetitive but that was my only minor grumble (Devin telling Alex she is off the case, Alex doing it anyway). It was good fun, it had moments that made me laugh. The world building really intrigued me. The story flowed well. I would be interested in reading more from this author.

Great story. HEA that ENDS! Okay, one couples story is done but carries on in the next. Funny, believable paranormal characters. That’s all I’m going to say, because I’ve already purchased the next two books!
A laugh out loud romance with a super natural twist. It was a great read and has me leaping on to the next in the series. A laugh out loud several times and a heart warming smile a new series to clamp on too!
