Highland Devil was a delightful read featuring a romance between two people willing to do anything for the ones they love.

While fleeing from her ruthless cousins, Mora Ogilvy tries to steal a horse in her bid to put distance between herself and her pursuers. When the horse bucks her off, she is left to deal with his irritated owner Sir Gybbon Murray who was simply on his way home when Mora showed up. After Mora explains the misdeeds of those chasing her and her fear for her life, Gybbon vows to assist her. After journeying to his family’s home, Gybbon and Mora try to work out a plan that will keep her safe and stop the threat chasing her. What Mora and Gybbon didn’t plan on was the depth of their feelings for each other and the lengths they’ll go to keep each other safe.

Mora and Gybbon’s relationship is very much based on Gybbon protecting Mora but beyond that element, I never really saw the connection between them. It seemed like they just fell into a relationship based on the forced proximity and the situation they were in. Granted the sex scenes were hot and I enjoyed them, I just never bought into the rest of their relationship. It’s possible my issues may have been because the book takes place over a very short period of time so there wasn’t a ton of buildup.

The plot dealing with Mora’s cousins and the threat against her was interesting and my favorite aspect of the book. The chase at the beginning was exciting and the author kept my interest throughout the book to see how things would work out for Mora. As to the writing, there were a few instances where the exact same line would appear within a few paragraphs of the first time it showed up which did throw me off. The repetition though may well have been because I read an advance copy of the book that wasn’t fully edited, but I wanted to mention it since it did take me out of the story lessening my enjoyment.

Highland Devil was overall a good read, I just had trouble seeing the romantic connection between the main characters which lessened my enjoyment. Despite my issues with this book, I would check something out from the author in the future if the premise was one I think I’d enjoy.

Series: Murray Family #22
Publication Date: 7/31/18

This was quite an interesting read. The plot was tightly written and the characters were likable and relatable. The romance was such a slow burn that I began to wonder if it was there at all. They finally slept together, but neither of them had any thoughts of love or marriage – just lust. Then, all of a sudden – they were in love and didn’t mind if they were forced to marry. I also had to wonder why the title was Highland Devil – unless it was named for Robert, the villain of the story. He was certainly a devil and worse.

This was more an ensemble cast rather than having an outstanding hero who does heroic things to save his lady. Sir Gybbon Murray doesn’t command a large force of men or have his own large keep, etc. However, he is the brother of Harcourt Murray who is Laird of his clan. He is also good friends with Sigimor who is laird of his clan and a kinsman of Mora. Gybbon works with and follows the lead of these two lairds in order to protect and rescue Mora.

Mora was preparing to flee her family home when her four cousins break into the house. She manages to get her younger brother out the window so he can run to a nearby friend for protection. Mora isn’t so lucky. Her cousin grabs her, hits her and taunts her with the fact that he has already murdered her parents and that her two older brothers won’t be returning home. Mora knows she has to escape and when her tiny runt of a cat claws her cousin’s face, she knows that is her chance. She grabs her kitten and heads out at a run, but not before Robert’s knife manages to scrape down her side. She gets out and finds a place to hide, but she knows her cousins will be hot on her trail.

Mora heads to the home of her mother’s kinsman. She stays on the road as much as she can but hides when horses are approaching. One rider passes on a beautiful horse – and – to her good fortune, she sees that same rider camping out further down the road. If he’ll just leave the site for a moment or two to relieve himself – she can ‘borrow’ his horse. When he finally does leave the area of the campfire, she sneaks in and saddles his horse, then awkwardly climbs aboard – only to find herself promptly tossed on the ground by the horse.

The horse’s owner, Gybbon, feeds her and gets her story out of her. Then, when her cousins stop in at his campsite, he hides her from them. Gybbon tells her he will take her to Sigimor’s keep and that he was planning to stop by there anyway. They ride along hiding when others approach and finally make it to Sigimor’s keep.

After they rescue her young, seven-year-old brother, Sigimor decides she’d be safer at Gybbon’s brother’s keep and they devise a plan to get her there safely.

I was really proud of Mora – she was being so strong, smart, and brave. I was just thinking, hey, this is going to be good because she isn’t going to do any of those TSTL things. She’s really being smart – and then, of course – comes the TSTL event.

I did enjoy the read, but if you are looking for gripping excitement and swashbuckling heroes, then you will probably find this book a little slow. I kind of like the ensemble approach and the fact that the hero can and does take advice and direction.

Another great book by Ms. Howell. Murdering cousins who try to pin the blame on a wee lassie. Gybbon falls for Mora slowly without any extra bells or whistles. He protects her and helps her get to the bottom of all the lies. Loved all the secondary characters in Gybbon's wide range of family.

Mora Ogilvy's cousin Robert has decided that he wants the manor house and lands his grandfather gave to Mora's parents and he is systematically eliminating anyone who stands between him and his goal. He kills her parents and sets his sites on Mora and her young brother Andrew and even his own brothers cannot stop him.

Mora sends her brother off to their Aunt Maggie and runs to her mother's cousin, Sir Sigimor Cameron for help. Failing to kill Mora and Andrew, Robert tells the sheriff and his father that she killed her parents, his father's aide and poisoned his father (the Laird). Mora is now wanted and running for her life, but her escape attempt is hindered by the fact she is injured and on foot. When the opportunity to steal a horse arises, Mora will get more than she bargained for. Sir Gybbon Murray is a "roamer", he drifts from place to place and has no desire to set down roots. But Gybbon is a man of honor and instead of condemning Mora for trying to steal his horse, he offers to help her reach Sigimor.

They make their way to Sigimor and upon arrival, Mora is ill from the injury Robert inflicted. Instead of leaving her, Gybbon becomes her champion, promising to find Andrew and help them clear her name. He uses his considerable contacts to help Mora and her brother, reasoning she has no one else, her parents are dead and her two older brothers haven't been heard from since they left for France almost 3 years ago, Mora believes Robert had them killed too. Once she is recovered enough to leave, Gybbon takes her to his brother's keep. Upon arriving, Mora suffers a relapse and Gybbon cares for her. He and Mora become closer and Gybbon thinks that he may be ready to stop wandering. When his brother offers him land, he decides to go and take a look. He tells Mora he will return in a few days and then they will see what can be done about her problem with Robert.

Mora decides that she can resolve her problems herself by simply talking to her uncle and when Gybbon leaves, she sets out alone. But things will not work out the way Mora planned and Robert will make sure she pays for his crimes. When she is imprisoned, help comes from an unexpected source and may well save her life.

Gybbon returns to learn Mora is missing, he is sure he knows where she has gone and will need help to save her. He heads out with his brother to see Sigimor and form a plan to rescue her. At Sigimor's he learns what happened to her and meets her two brothers David and Niall, who have returned from France after several assassins sent by Robert, failed to kill them. They want to save their sister and want to know who Gybbon is to her.

They manage to save Mora, but Gybbon still has hurdles to jump before he can claim Mora as his own.

This is a well written, steady paced novel with likable characters, cameos from Sigimor/Jolene and Hartcourt/Annys, an odd little cat, a really, really vile villain, steamy-ish love scenes, some tense moments, some amusing interchanges and finally a very sweet HEA complete with an epilogue.

Highland justice!_______3.5 stars

Mora Ogilvy finds herself fleeing for her life from relatives who definitely seek her demise. An attempt to steal a horse leads her into the way of Sir Gybbon Murray. Of course this is just the beginning of the self inflicted and otherwise mayhem that fills the pages for these two. Along the way we engage with some favorite's from past stories.
Mora's older brothers have probably been killed off in France where they were being employed as mercenaries. Her youngest brother she guided towards safety before slipping away in another direction. Now all she has to do is survive, and maybe even more.
A pleasing read with some whimsical touches, including the rather wonderful small cat Freya and the way various characters respond to our Freya. To be honest Freya was rather the highlight for me.
So to recap we have a bordering on insane, murderous villain, an attractive, hunted young woman, a handsome highland hero, and a host of others giving a well rounded story that fits so well with Howell's Murray Family series.

Highland Devil by Hannah Howell is book 22 in the Murray Family Series. This is the story of Sir Gybbon Murray and Mora Ogilvy. I have read the previous books, but feel you can make this a standalone book if you wish to do so.
Mora is running from her cousin Robert who had decided that he wants what is rightfully hers and her brother Andrew. Mora has sent her brother off to safety and but she is running from Robert. Robert killed her parents and is out to do that also to them but has since framed her for their death. Mora meets Gybbon while on the run and ends up hurt which then leads her to his family. Thinking to stay long enough to heal she will then move on....but Gybbon wants to help her and his growing feelings.
Enjoyed their story!

I enjoyed this historical romance that had a strong beginning and a decent plot but I did not care for how the romance developed because neither character took it serious enough. And the heroine's action in the second half was stupid. On the run, Mora tries to steal Gybbons horse.

Overall I really enjoyed this book! It was my first book from Hannah Howell and I will definitely be trying out more.
I loved Gybbon and how protective he was of Mora! Mora was such a fantastic character and I loved how resilient she was. The two of them together made a great couple and really fit well. I have to say though some of my favorite characters were the side characters! Sigmore was fantastic as well as Jolene, I adored their dynamic and I’m definitely going to be checking to see if they had a previous book in the series! As a cat lover Freya also stole the show, what a loyal companion!
The only thing I wish had been a little different was the way Gybbon and Mora got together. It seemed a little quick to head to the bedroom and then Gybbon wasn’t sure of his feelings after. I mean it made since it just seemed a little different especially for the time period it takes place in.
Over all a super fun and entertaining read!

Running from cousins who has murdered some of her family, Mora Ogilvy and her young brother are
trying to reach some of her relatives for help. Fate seems to intervene in the form of Gybbon Murray when she tries to "borrow" his horse. Lucky for her he takes her in hand and hears her story. Gybbon is determined to help her as they realize the cousins are in pursuit.
Hannah Howell always makes you feel part of the landscape and characters. Gybbon and Mora slowly fall for each other as they set out on an adventure full of many twist and turns and wonderful side characters. There was a lot of humor and a wonderful cat ( yes I love animals in stories!) that a lot of strong highlanders. What more can one ask for? Not a lot and that is why I was sorry to turn the last page. Love those wonderful Murrays!!

I should’ve read this book instead of listening to it on audible. I listened to all 21 books that came before this one and loved them. This one was so horrible. Different narrator was so hard to listen too. The story just didn’t flow with her. It was hard to connect to the history when the names of the characters from previous books were pronounced incorrectly. Even the names of the keeps were different. I loved the continuation of the Murray clan. I hope this book is redone with Angela Dawe as the narrator.

Mora Ogilvy is desperate. Her greedy cousins are killing off her family for their property and have accused her of murder. They're after her to have her hanged. They just killed her parents and slowly poisoning their father. She gets her young brother and the only apparent heir left and hides in the forest with them chasing her running for her life. In desperation she sees Sir Gybbon Murray's horse and tries to steal (borrow) it. Funny thing Jester will buck off anyone who Gybbon hasn't said is OK. And so starts our adventure of the valent Sir Gybbon and his rescue of Mora. This was one of my favorite highland reads, that of a guardian protector. We meet old friends from the past, Camerons and MacFingals and have a delightfully creative adventure. This is one of Hannah's best. Thank you Kensington and NetGalley for the chance to review this book.

I love the Murray family. Mora is running for her life and sees a horse that will get her to her destination. What she wasn't prepared for, was the horse to dump her onto the ground. Gybbon knew his horse would throw anyone he doesn't know and when he saw the small woman trying to steal his horse, he knew how it would end. Mora is sure she can trust this stranger because her cat seems to like him and so she tells him why she is running. Gybbon is sure he can help Mora take care of her problem, but will he lose his heart too?

Another steamy Highland novel set to sweep you off your feet and leave you drooling for another taste of hunky Scotsmen... An attempted theft, a gorgeous red head in trouble, and a daring knight who needs to save a damsel all make this tale one to keep you entertained to the very end. I love Hannah Howell's world and can't wait to return.

Gybbon, the good guy hero here, right from the get go, had Mora’s, the heroine, back unconditionally. He was kind, respectful, protective, and wanted to help her in any manner he could. Therefore, I’ll not really sure where the term wicked knight comes from in the synopsis or the devil reference in the title. I can only assume the latter must refer to the OTT evil villain who was after Mora and her wee younger brother.

One thing Gybbon couldn’t seem to come to terms with for quite some time was committing fully to Mora. Mostly it was his head that needed to catch up with his heart, because clearly he began to care for her but couldn’t say those three little words. It’s hard for this avid romantic at heart to root for a main couple when they aren’t 100% fighting for love themselves right from the get go. When they speak of parting like it is inevitable, it rankles my feather, folks. Of course, they were sweet together, and I knew somehow by the end things would work out.

Though I enjoyed seeing these two eventually become a couple, they came across more as unplanned travel companions for a very long time. Their relationship and plot unfolded at a very slow, leisurely pace. In fact, for a majority of the book their romance felt like a subplot. I didn’t feel the heart melting, strong chemistry/passionate connection I expected. They were attracted to one another and "in like" but I didn't sense their love was so deep they couldn't have lived without each other.

I found myself skimming over parts of it, especially the retelling/rehashing of conversations and events as more sub-characters were introduced and brought up to speed and told what was going on. At least the interactions among this large cast of characters were intriguing.

Overall, I enjoyed this book but must admit it seemed to take forever to finish. I’m struggling here to pinpoint specifically why. As a big fan of slow burn romances, that certainly wasn’t the problem. I can only assume it was because of the very slow paced turn of events and the reluctant to commit aspect.

At the end of the day, knucklehead Gybbon does finally give in and commits to making Mora his wife, but his doubts and the manner in which it happened weren’t overly romantic. A little too stereotypical set-up and shotgun wedding for my taste. Despite the fact, he finally was more than willing to be dragged to the altar.

Romance Safety Gang:

Title: Highland Devil, Series: The Murrays (Book #22), Author: Hannah Howell, Pages: 352, stand-alone but part of a series, alpha protective good guy hero, virgin/damsel in distress heroine, slow paced, steamy scenes late in the book, some violence, past rape of a family member revealed, heroine threatened with rape, strong Scottish brogue, former rambling man type hero whose scared to settle down.

Rating: Lack of committed to love her hero and didn't speak up heroine lowered my rating from a "4" to a "3".

You know that feeling you get when you come home from a long vacation? Like it was really nice to be away but as soon as you walk through the door to your home, it was like you never left. Instant comfort. That is what reading about the Murray clan is like.

If you have ever read any of my reviews before, you will notice that I am a hardcore thriller reader. I love the dark side of life and am not a big romance reader at all. Once in a while, sure, but not all the time. However, I will NEVER miss a new Hannah Howell book. Especially the Highland series and here’s why; it never changes. Each new release follows a very similar pattern to the ones before it and there are really no big surprises. It is perfect. I continue to read these books after years of following this series and each time I get that instant comfort of the familiar. Each time I get to fall into a new chapter of the biggest family I’ve ever met (seriously, they are everywhere!) and because the basic structure is pretty much the same I can just fall into this beautiful, historic world that Howell has created and lose myself there.

Here’s what I expect when picking up a Highland book:

Now not every book in the series is going to follow this pattern exactly but it gives a basic idea of what I’ve grown to expect and what I love about this series. Highland Devil, while sticking pretty closely to my well laid out plot points, surprised me a bit. Since this is the 22nd book in the series I feel that is something worth noting. There was a change here and I’m a little unsure of it.

While the characters lived up to the standards I expect from a Hannah Howell book, I found the narration lacking. Although I normally find a good pace is being set, this book tended to both drag on and feel too rushed at times in certain areas. I felt that the main conflict surrounding Mora and Robert was well laid out and what I had expected but that Gybbon’s eventual involvement and how easily his people became involved in the situation was a little unbelievable and a bit naïve on everyone’s part if I’m being perfectly honest. While I still greatly enjoyed the book, I found I preferred following the character development more than I cared about how the situation would be resolved and that.

I will say that I think Gybbon may be my new favorite Murray! I absolutely loved him. While he definitely isn’t a large Alpha character like a lot of his clansmen are, I thought he was just the sweetest guy. Again, a little naïve and too quick to trust but he is your typical boy next door type and I just loved reading about him. Mora was pretty much the same type of character although she was a little bit harder on the head. Still a stubborn pain in the ass and sort of irritating at times but I think the two are well matched and just all out adorable. My favorite in this book, though, and an absolute perfect touch has got to be Freya. I have a soft spot for her (as did everyone in this book…except Robert of course) and thought that her addition to this story was amazing.

There really isn’t much that I didn’t like about Highland Devil other than the narration as I mentioned earlier. I don’t quite get the title based on how the book read but I can forgive that detail. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and still found it fairly quick to get through. The writing is just as amazing as it always is and I love falling into that thick Scottish brogue that Howell does so well. I look forward to many, many more stories from the Murray clan and will continue to keep the author who gave me a love for the Highlands on my insta-buy list.

This was a very slow and mellow read for me, but that's not to say that I didn't enjoy it. The main characters were believable and endearing. I rather liked Gybbon and Mora. I liked the side characters too, and I'm sure that had I read any of the previous books I would have understood a lot more of what was going on. But I haven't, so I just went with what I was given and it didn't really affect this story I thought. I got a good chuckle here and there, but mostly I just enjoyed the interactions between Gybbon and Mora. And oh how I loved Mora's cat!! The bad guy was truly a bad guy and it was great to see him finally get his comeuppance at the end in the way he did.

When Mora's parents were killed, it left her in charge of their land and her little brother. She has two older brothers, but since they left to fight in France they haven't been heard from. She planned on keeping up a simple life getting by on what her goats could provide, but that comes to a screeching halt when her cousins show up. And try to kill her and her brother. Mora is able to help her brother escape, but while she tries to flee she is wounded. Once she gets away, Mora stays hidden as best she can while fighting exhaustion and the pain. When she comes upon a stranger, she knows it's wrong, but she can't let the chance pass her by to steal his horse. Which fails spectacularly. But also succeeds in ways she never could have guessed.

Gybbon travels around doing whatever he wants pretty much. After his horse throws Mora off, he's interested in her story and after hearing her out he decides that if the one who she was told to go to can't help her, his clan will. He's definitely a good man and knows how to get things done where Mora would have had no clue.

Together they travel to allies seeking support and become closer. When Mora falls ill from her wound, Gybbon even manages to find her brother for her. Despite Gybbon not making any promises to Mora, she freely gives herself to him when she realizes the depth of her feelings for him. When things start to look up, Mora does something so incredibly stupid. I just wanted to bash her head in it was so fucking stupid! But I get it. It was done this way to get us to the ending that we were given. An ending that worked out really well and was good.

I will say that I was extremely urked with Gybbon at the end when he was thinking about what he felt for Mora and thought about being with her but maybe not for long and also wanting to keep traveling about. I sat there thinking "Are you freaking kidding me?" There was just something about the way he acted that I simply didn't like at that point.

Given the chance, I'm not sure how excited I would be to read more of this series. It was entertaining enough, and I liked it, but I think I have many other books that I would like more.

I received a copy of this e-book via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

Mora Ogilvy's life is in danger and she must get help. Her psycho cousin has killed her parents, possibly killed her brother's who went off to fight in France and is now after her and her 7 year old brother. Her brother is safe at the moment with a family friend and she is going to her mother's family for help.

On his way back home, Sir Gybbon Murray catches Mora trying to steal his horse...oy yeas, borrow it she said. He finally gets some of her story and finds that she is traveling to his good friend Sigimond's home so he agrees to help her.

Will they make is to safety before Mora's cousin finds her? Can Gybbon keep her safe and will her mother's family help?

I guess I don't have to tell you that there is an attraction between Gybbon and Mora. I like the way their relationship developed...it was very natural although there were times of tension between them of course.

There is such a great cast of characters in this story! Mora and her family were raised in a loving house as was Gybbon, who has an extended family beyond the imagination. Sigimond, Mora's distant relative is fierce but can deny his wife nothing. The show stealer though has got to be Freya, Mora's little tiny cat with a personality bigger than she will ever be!

I am a huge fan of the author's. She is the one who made me fall in love with the highlander. This book started off a bit slow for me but it didn't last long before I couldn't put it down.

If you are a fan of the highlander and this era then this is a must read!

Highland Devil? Not so much. I enjoyed the book but the romance was lacking for me. Mora is on the run from her murderous cousins who are determined to take over the small inheritance Mora’s family was given by their father, Mora’s uncle. She happens upon the hero Gybbon, who agrees to take her to safety. If you did not read this book as a ‘romance’ it would probably be more enjoyable. The first half read more like an adventure of one girl standing up to her relatives and making her way to safety. I was really enjoying the book. Then all of a sudden, Gybbon climbs into her bed, after maybe one chaste kiss? It just didn’t feel fluent. In fact, when I was first reading and making my impressions of Mora, she seemed very young to me. Much too young and immature for Gybbon, who by the way, was no devil at all. (was he even the devil in the title?). My biggest problem with the book was how ho hum everyone was. For example, I’m on my way to my death, let’s talk about mundane facts while you fix my hair. Someone is coming to kill me, I think I will go alone and talk to them, no big deal at all. Oh no, someone has been kidnapped, should we go right away and save them, no, let’s wait until tomorrow! You see my point?? Several times I wanted to say ‘wake up people! Have some urgency here!’ But alas, there was never any. If you like your romances to have a sloooooow burn, and full of appropriate period dialogue, then this is the book for you! I received a copy of this book free from the publisher for my honest review, and this is it!

When I started this book, I was completely lost. So i looked it up and found out this was book #22 in a series. wait, what?!? Book 22?!?! I'm not sure if this pulls characters from other books or not, I would assume it would have to. And I don't know if this book picks up where book 21 left off. However, if you are like me and reading book 22 without having read any others (I don't know why you would be doing this), the action in this book starts immediately. Bear with it. You will come to understand what is going on.
This tale was an interesting enough one. Mora is on the run from her mad cousin. Mad as in crazypants not angry. Well, he was angry too....but mostly crazypants!
The romance in this book is definitely a slow burn romance. I wasn't sure it was even going to happen at all. I was like...maybe books 1-22 are all just build up to a giant Murray family lovefest in book 23? But then it hit eventually. Honestly though it was a little wishy-washy and not very grand. The romance kinda disappointed me since I had waited most of the book for it.
I did enjoy meeting all the different families and clans. The characters in the book were well done and I liked many of them. Freya was instantly my favorite character though. LOL.
While I enjoyed this story once I got into it a bit more, as a romance novel, I don't think this book was for me. I'm sure there are are a ton of people that would love this though, so definitely check it out for yourself.
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an unbiased honest review.

Highland Devil by Hannah Howell is an interesting tale. One where family is set against its own. An evil cousin is set upon killing everyone to get what he wants. And no one has been able to stop him yet...even his own father won't stop him. That's when Mora and her younger brother, Andrew, flew for their lives. Their paths soon cross that of one brave highlander, Gybbon. Gybbon immediately seeks to help Mora and her brother against her evil cousin. But the fear, danger, and passion that sparks between keeps them at ends.

The suspense in this historical novel was intense. I was not sure what would have happened to Mora. Several times, I thought both she and Andrew would die. As for her older brothers...I did not see that unexpected twist happening. Fast-paced and brilliant, Hannah Howell plucked my curiosity and kept it. I would recommend this read. It was deeply engaging and emotionally fun to follow. Brave, funny, and strong men racing to help those in danger made my heart melt every time. Highland Devil is just as it sounded. A highland devil was detailed here. Running and finding out why the highland devil wanted the characters dead was a unique mystery. It appeared to be greed but I am still left with wondering if it was simply just because he was a mad man. Or was he?

I received this copy from the publisher. This is my voluntary review.

Am I reading the same book as all the people who gave this 4 and 5 star reviews??? Cuz I didn’t get that at ALL. 2.5 stars TOPS.
Where do I begin? OH well maybe that the first 25% of this book was terrible! I get the Scottish brogue but that was overdone. I’m willing to be the word “wee” was used 2,000 times. Every time someone said it I winced in actual pain.
Begrudgingly, the story picked up about 1/2 way through. Although I felt zero chemistry between Gybbon & Mora. There whole vibe was like “sure? Whatever happens, happens” which is completely off the mindset of the time period. Pretty sure giving up of ye’ old virginity, possibly of getting preggo when you’re not just a mistress or whatevs was a big thing....
The best part of the plot was the psycho cousin and his disturbing deeds....he was a true villain. It’s prolly twisted that I wanted to hear more of his f*ked up tale and how it affected his brothers lives. But there it is, that is what I wished I would’ve heard more about.
Also, the naughty bits were pretty decent so there is that, it just takes like %75 of the bad storyline to even get to that point though. I coulda just had a V8. 😆
Idk....
Overall.....hard pass on this one. It was too much & too little at the same time.

Greetings Reader,

I heard a tale this weeked of a romance that took place long ago in Scotland. Gybbon Murray, brother of Laird Harcourt Murray, was travelling when someone attempted to steal his horse. The would be thief was Mora Ogilvy, on the run from her greedy and ruthless cousins. Gybbon, brave man that he was, decided to aid and protect her despite the dangers. With the support of other clansmen (many of which have their own romances) Gybbon rescues her youngest brother Andrew and carts Mora off to safety. Gybbon and Mora were destined from the start, their attraction met no resistance and their love was soon accepted. Mora trusted in Gybbon and he in turn felt protective of her and the rest was just a matter of evading villains. Everyone wondered, would Gybbon permanently or temporarily give up wandering to settle down? Would his answer prove him to be a devil? Alas, dear reader while he pondered the matter Mora unwittingly walked into a trap and he had to set off to rescue her from certain death. It was a sweet and staid romance with a semblance of eminent danger.

Highland Devil 🌟🌟🌟🌟
Hannah Howell.

A highland laird has always been a go to hero for me and Hannah Howell a Queen of the Historical romance Genre, however after 18 books I needed a break, despite my love of all things Murray my enjoyment of the series I was bored by those Scottish men and their lady loves.

A few books break and I was back into the highland lairds with a vengeance. This is classic Howell with the Murray men protecting Women and Children from evil doers and strengthening connections with Cameron’s. Full of action packed drama from the off Highland Devil is the story of Sir Gybbon Murray and how he deals with a horse thief.

Whilst on the run from murderous relatives Mora runs into a Murray man Sir Gybbon Murray to be exact, Travelling a lonely Scottish road falling in love with your rescuer is the only thing a highland lass can do. A welcome return to Hannah Howells writing with chapters that drew me deep into the Scottish highlands I love a book that draws the reader in allowing them to imagine themselves fully as one of the characters. For me this is the main reason Highland Devil was an enjoyable read the pages and chapters moved quickly.

When her cousin Robert came after Mora Oligvy and her brother, Andrew, she told her brother to flee and stood up to her lout of a cousin who wanted her parents' home and would do anything to get it, including murder. Mora's wee cat, Freya, scratched Robert's face allowing her to escape, avoiding the fatal sword thrust towards her. Hiding until they left, she started walking with her wee bag of belongings also containing Freya until she came across a knight in the woods and tried to steal his horse who promptly threw her. Sir Gybbon Murray is on his way to Dubheidland which was where Mora was fleeing to. Gybbon decided to take Mora and her cat with him. They had many adventures on the road as Freya was an excellent lookout keeping them safe on the road. As they traveled they became close and by the time they arrived at Dubheidland, romance was in the air. Nothing could be done until the matter of Robert's evil actions were stopped but then....

Another great book in the Murray series! I have read many of the Murray series books and each one is well-written with complex characters and a solid story.
